Please comment Luke 21:24, they added the word "appointed", in spanish they added the word "señalados" and that sound like this times are kind of prophetic. This way they can connect this text with the seven times of Daniel 4. The greek word "times" is "kairoi", it appears in other texts like ephesius 5:16 and in that other texts they not add this word

(NWT version) The other translations do not carry the term "legally", neither does Westcott - Hort. Probably the introduction of the term "legally" is to support one of their characteristics, completely foreign to the evangelical message which does not understand, nor has it ever understood, the task of being defended in the courts with specialized "theocratic" Legal Departments. Ok, Lloyd and everyone, I have one that MUST BE ADDED HERE!!! As you know, the JWs continually come out with new versions of their own version!!! So check this out! In their New Word Translation, the "revised 1984" edition (brown hard cover) Hosea 12:14 has the term "Grand Master" in place of "Lord". In their current New World Translation "revised 2013" (silver sword) they took "Grand Master" out and replaced it with the original "Lord"! Here' is how it reads: "Ephraim caused offense to bitterness, and his deeds of bloodshed he leaves upon his own self, and his reproach his Grand Master (or Lord in the silver current version) will repay him." Now let me tell you why this is particularly interesting: It is the smoking gun, in my good opinion, of the Masonic roots of this Charles Taze Russell man-made hocus pocus religion!! So Lloyd, I vote for you doing a video that compares The New World Translations various versions TO ITSELF! I'm sure there are many, many more changes to their own versions over the years! You have already mentioned Hebrews 1:8 as being doctored by the Watchtower, but the reference from OT is also doctored. Read Psalms 45:6. Another verse where Jesus is called God is Romans 9:5. Titus 2:13 is an interesting one. NWT renders it like Jehovah will also manifest himself at Jesus’ second coming.. Ooops.. John 20:28 is out of scope for your video since this verse hasn’t been doctored. But why?? If they doctor everything else concerning the deity of Christ, why don’t they change this one…?
Good work Lloyd, & yes your right they are simply modifying the bible to suit their own teachings. & the scripture you mentioned in revelation 5, also relates later in the same book about the kingdom that descends from the heavens onto the earth, not a heavenly kingdom ruling from the heavens over the earth but a kingdom ruling from the earth itself. Like you said the only reason for this is to justify their teachings of their anointed class.
I must take issue with Lloyd calling the Kingdom Interlinear Greek text "the original Greek". We don't have the original manuscripts. The KI uses an edited Greek text compiled by Westcott and Hort from available manuscripts in the 1880s. PS This doesn't detract from his argument.
This will be a separate debate. Which manuscripts to pick from. The one (or ones, they’re probably many) with the adulteress pericope or not? The short Mark or long Mark? Not every bible I’ve seen has footnotes detailing this. So, the case could also be made that mainstream bible publishers do change words and phrases, to suit their persuasion. And they do.
@@spykezspykez7001 that is true. most modern Bible translations rely heavily on the Alexandrian / Westcott Hort source manuscripts, rather then the Textus Receptus or Byzantine manuscript families. that difference has caused sectarian splits such as fundamentalist KJV only groups. Personally I am fine with either, and doing my research it seems historical evidence does support the reading of the TR/Byzantine verses going back to the early church fathers, like Irenaeus and prior to 325AD. (for example verses that do not exist in the Alexandrian manuscripts) ((or the NWT as well)).

As far as I know, the Kingdom Interlinear version was discontinued *precisely because* people who knew the Greek were using it to disprove the JWs' own scriptures on the doorstep. And we cant have that, now can we? ;)
There was a scripture in the NWT in Revelation about the Alpha and Omega (I think revelation 22:15,16) Where they changed the quotation marks to make it sound like it was Jehovah talking where other translations include it as Jesus’ words. That one really tripped me up when studying with another student in high school. Why not consider that for future reference in this video series?
Hi Lloyd. Me partaking in Doctored:: Luke 22:17. "...pass it from one to the other among yourselves..." is in other translations "divide/share among yourselves". The key Greek word here is diamerizo. From BibleHub: "diamerizo - I divide up into parts, break up; I distribute". An example verse with the same word diamerizo is Matt 27:35, where soldiers divided Jesus' garments. There is no usage of this word in the bible as "pass on from one to the other". Also, note that Jesus' apostles got anointed only after Jesus' ascension.
First, thank you for all the time and effort you're putting in to this. One thing that might have helped with this series of videos is if you'd have had access to a copy of the original NWT. As I'm sure you're aware, the translation was originally released in sections. If I recall correctly, there were six separate sections released over a period of several years, and they featured dark green covers. The first release was called the New World Translation of the Greek Scriptures. Unless my memory is screwed, I think this book contained a rather comprehensive explanation of the translation committee's editorial decisions. While these apologies may not matter much, it would have provided an additional resource for the textual criticism you're offering viewers. One thing they copped to was admitting that the doctrinal beliefs of translators effects translation decisions. Of course, they covered themselves by saying that this is true of all bible translations. (So if others do it, we can do it too!) I think this would be of interest to you. If you can't find a copy, perhaps one could be found in the UN Library. 🤔
Excellent point! It's so funny how the WTS likes to argue that they are better than all the other churches (who aren't even real Christians, in their opinion), but when it suits them, they fall back on "if the others do it, we can too." Makes me think about how the WTS likes to hide behind the clergy-penitent privilege in child abuse cases, saying the elders are like clergy, and communicatins with them are like confessions, therefore the elders must be exempt from mandated reporting rules.

Yeah, that’s a good one and so significant to the JW theology. I could never understand the phrasing as if Jesus was somehow trying to emphasis that he was telling this to the guy ‘today’ versus yesterday or tomorrow? It’s such a silly and gratuitous bit of language when used as they do.

The reason WT changed Ex 3:14 "I am" referring to Jehovah, is because Jesus used same words applying to himself New International Version at John 8:58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”. So watchtower has a problem as this verse can be used to support the trinity, so WT changed the exodus verse!

You should probably do an analysis of the Byington version where some of these unusual renderings seem to stem from. The WT seems to like borrowing from the Byington version which Byington himself did not publish. I think there’s a lot to investigate and uncover here.
The Hebrew phrase 'Ehye asher ehye' does carry a meaning of becoming, of not being finished, of being intended. It cannot be rendered accurately into elegant English as far as I am aware. The JW attempt is as good as the traditional I AM one in my judgment

This is a cool series to watch. They sure do butcher the Bible. Why did they change “age” or aon in Greek to “This system of things”? Sounds like some 1984 double speak.
I don't remember if you've already covered this one, but Luke 23:43 has an interesting change, definitely my favourite one, since this time it's not about a word that's been changed or added, but a comma that has miraculously been put a little bit later, compared to all the other translations.

The change with god resurrecting a small group of faithful people seems really bizarre, since that is pretty much just a small preview of what they believe god will do after Armageddon, so why change something that not only does not seem to go against their beliefs and gives an indication god could do one of their more extraordinary claims he will do in the future.

"I will be what I will be" is a perfectly valid translation of אהיה אשר אהיה, but Watchtower should have been more transparent that that's not the most common interpretation in Christian circles. "What I choose to be" was completely fabricated.
Robert Alter translates Exodus 3:14 (the words are 'Ehyeh-'Asher-'Ehyeh) as "I Will Be Who I Will Be." The Hebrew can be interpreted as "I am" or as "I am becoming."
Another example of changes found in the NWT James 3:17 "But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, reasonable, READY TO OBEY, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, not hypocritical.” “Ready to obey” is added in the NWT. A simple reading of Luke (and being an atheist i go by just what that author says rather than feel constrained to force harmony with other NT books) seems to indicate heaven, but I've not looked into it from that perspective in a very long time. The Jesus of Luke doesn't mention earth at all as an outcome. Luke's version of the beautitudes (blessed are the poor, etc) doesn't have the one that Matthew does- blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Luke also has Jesus saying that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will be in the Kingdom (Luke 13:28-30). The use of paradise is interesting. The writer of Luke never used it again, but the author of Revelation uses it to refer to heaven. So paradise in the 1st/2nd century wasn't automatically earth. As I said, it's been a while since it did a deep dive of Biblical criticism (the last time it took me about 5 years). Still, I will grant you that the JW placement of the comma is unique to them. My point was that all translators put the punctuation in based on their own understanding. As in punctuation was not "divinely inspired." 😉
Another example: Numbers shown as Hindu-Arabic symbols (One example: Gen. 8:6) “So at the end of 40 days,” (2013 NWT) “So it occurred that at the end of forty days” (1984 NWT) The ancient Hebrew language did not have our modern number system.

Great series and I think is a great complement to the rebuttal videos. It’s sometimes might seem easy to criticise these folk and their weird music videos but they deliberately manipulate the Bible to create a theology it didn’t really intend to present. These are all distortions in the printed version but they are equally adept at doctoring the text even when it remains aligned with other versions. Given failed prophecy, all the JWs can now do is tell us that Jesus ‘evidently meant’ that a generation was actually two generations - a clear distortion of what was originally said and what was obviously meant. They mislead people into thinking they have some special version of the ‘truth’ whereas it becomes quite clear that they not only distort the bible through textual manipulation, then by altering our language to suit their needs but, finally, by also reducing the Bible to a candy-like assortment of verses that they grab from when they pretend to be ‘studying’ the book. The Zombies stuff I don’t ever recall being in a study article; distortion through omission.

Ephesians 2:11-22 in most all translations these scriptures talks of two groups of people mainly the Jews and the Gentiles forming together as one group of peoples under the new covenant of Christ Jesus. Ephesians 3:6 "And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus." NLT Ephesians 3:6 "namely, that people of the nations should, in union with Christ Jesus and through the good news, be joint heirs and fellow members of the body and partakers with us of the promise." NWT In the NWT the scriptures are jumbled so much so, it's difficult to decipher what is actually been said. Please Lloyd look into this and see what you make of it. 😊
Acts 20:28 KJV “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” Acts 20:28 NWT “Pay attention to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the holy spirit has appointed you overseers, to shepherd the congregation of God, which he purchased with the blood of his own Son.” 1. Watchtower replaced all scriptures that mention church to congregation. 2. In this scripture Paul said the overseers are to feed the church not shepherd the church. Jesus is our shepherd, but Watchtower put the overseers as our shepherd. 3. If you read the full context of this chapter the church of God here refers to the church of Christ. Since Watchtower deny the deity of Christ being God, they added purchased with the blood of his own Son. All other Bibles indicate purchased with his own blood.
Hey Lloyd I found this subtle change in their Bible. I found it when reading the JW daily text of Nov 19, 2021. You may want to add that to your list. Proverbs 17:17 NWT « A true friend shows love at all times and is a brother who is born for times of distress. » Proverbs 17:17 KJV « A friend loveth at all times, And a brother is born for adversity. » They inserted the word « is » in front of « a brother ». This change makes the verse all about themselves in their brotherly friendship. All other bibles don’t have the word « is » and so it makes reference to the difference of the love of a friend in a friendship, and the love of a brother, i.e. a family brother or a brother within the church. However WT changed it to appear that this verse speaks only about love within the congregation and we know it’s because WT don’t allow the love of a friend outside the congregation.
2 Timothy 2:4 is one that I cant stand the way they changed it. It reads: No man serving as a soldier involves himself in the commercial businesses of life, in order to gain the approval of the one who enrolled him as a soldier. They changed civilian affairs to commercial businesses in order to help their case against higher education as well as working for a living. It is beyond disgusting, manipulative, and abusive to me. To think, back on the day when I’d bring up scriptures and things that didn’t add up, it came from the Old Testament and that was their excuse “well things changed after Jesus came to earth…” It would be brushed under the rug after that. Now, we find the same mischief in the New Testament and I’d be interested in what their excuse would be now.

Probably the introduction of the term "legally" is to support one of their characteristics, completely foreign to the evangelical message which does not understand, nor has it ever understood, the task of being defended in the courts with specialized "theocratic" Legal Departments.

Ok, Lloyd and everyone, I have one that MUST BE ADDED HERE!!! As you know, the JWs continually come out with new versions of their own version!!! So check this out! In their New Word Translation, the "revised 1984" edition (brown hard cover) Hosea 12:14 has the term "Grand Master" in place of "Lord". In their current New World Translation "revised 2013" (silver sword) they took "Grand Master" out and replaced it with the original "Lord"! Here' is how it reads: "Ephraim caused offense to bitterness, and his deeds of bloodshed he leaves upon his own self, and his reproach his Grand Master (or Lord in the silver current version) will repay him." Now let me tell you why this is particularly interesting: It is the smoking gun, in my good opinion, of the Masonic roots of this Charles Taze Russell man-made hocus pocus religion!! So Lloyd, I vote for you doing a video that compares The New World Translations various versions TO ITSELF! I'm sure there are many, many more changes to their own versions over the years! You have already mentioned Hebrews 1:8 as being doctored by the Watchtower, but the reference from OT is also doctored. Read Psalms 45:6.
Another verse where Jesus is called God is Romans 9:5.

I must take issue with Lloyd calling the Kingdom Interlinear Greek text "the original Greek". We don't have the original manuscripts. The KI uses an edited Greek text compiled by Westcott and Hort from available manuscripts in the 1880s. PS This doesn't detract from his argument.

@@spykezspykez7001 that is true. most modern Bible translations rely heavily on the Alexandrian / Westcott Hort source manuscripts, rather then the Textus Receptus or Byzantine manuscript families. that difference has caused sectarian splits such as fundamentalist KJV only groups. Personally I am fine with either, and doing my research it seems historical evidence does support the reading of the TR/Byzantine verses going back to the early church fathers, like Irenaeus and prior to 325AD. (for example verses that do not exist in the Alexandrian manuscripts) ((or the NWT as well)).
Make it confusing... then readers will never understand and just believe the 8 men in the GB. Devil is the Author of Confusion and Lies. God is Truth and desires us to understand His Word.
As far as I know, the Kingdom Interlinear version was discontinued *precisely because* people who knew the Greek were using it to disprove the JWs' own scriptures on the doorstep. And we cant have that, now can we? ;)

There was a scripture in the NWT in Revelation about the Alpha and Omega (I think revelation 22:15,16) Where they changed the quotation marks to make it sound like it was Jehovah talking where other translations include it as Jesus’ words. That one really tripped me up when studying with another student in high school. Why not consider that for future reference in this video series?

Hi Lloyd. Me partaking in Doctored:: Luke 22:17. "...pass it from one to the other among yourselves..." is in other translations "divide/share among yourselves". The key Greek word here is diamerizo. From BibleHub: "diamerizo - I divide up into parts, break up; I distribute". An example verse with the same word diamerizo is Matt 27:35, where soldiers divided Jesus' garments. There is no usage of this word in the bible as "pass on from one to the other".
Also, note that Jesus' apostles got anointed only after Jesus' ascension.
John 10:33 is a blatant change, in the same vein as Titus 2:13 and 2 Peter 1:1 (all the same issue tbh)

First, thank you for all the time and effort you're putting in to this. One thing that might have helped with this series of videos is if you'd have had access to a copy of the original NWT. As I'm sure you're aware, the translation was originally released in sections. If I recall correctly, there were six separate sections released over a period of several years, and they featured dark green covers. The first release was called the New World Translation of the Greek Scriptures. Unless my memory is screwed, I think this book contained a rather comprehensive explanation of the translation committee's editorial decisions. While these apologies may not matter much, it would have provided an additional resource for the textual criticism you're offering viewers. One thing they copped to was admitting that the doctrinal beliefs of translators effects translation decisions. Of course, they covered themselves by saying that this is true of all bible translations. (So if others do it, we can do it too!) I think this would be of interest to you. If you can't find a copy, perhaps one could be found in the UN Library. 🤔

It's so funny how the WTS likes to argue that they are better than all the other churches (who aren't even real Christians, in their opinion), but when it suits them, they fall back on "if the others do it, we can too." Makes me think about how the WTS likes to hide behind the clergy-penitent privilege in child abuse cases, saying the elders are like clergy, and communicatins with them are like confessions, therefore the elders must be exempt from mandated reporting rules.

“Upon” the Earth means living on Earth and ruling on the Earth. “Over” suggests ruling from Heaven over the Earth.

At Luke 23:43 in the nwt bible they add a comma to make it appear that Jesus was talking about a future paradise and resurrection when Jesus said today you will be with me in paradise to the dying criminal next to him on the cross.

Yeah, that’s a good one and so significant to the JW theology. I could never understand the phrasing as if Jesus was somehow trying to emphasis that he was telling this to the guy ‘today’ versus yesterday or tomorrow? It’s such a silly and gratuitous bit of language when used as they do.

The reason WT changed Ex 3:14 "I am" referring to Jehovah, is because Jesus used same words applying to himself New International Version at John 8:58

So watchtower has a problem as this verse can be used to support the trinity, so WT changed the exodus verse!

You should probably do an analysis of the Byington version where some of these unusual renderings seem to stem from. The WT seems to like borrowing from the Byington version which Byington himself did not publish.

The Hebrew phrase 'Ehye asher ehye' does carry a meaning of becoming, of not being finished, of being intended. It cannot be rendered accurately into elegant English as far as I am aware. The JW attempt is as good as the traditional I AM one in my judgment

It's been done by scribes all along, but I always wonder, does this mean these people don't really believe in their scriptures after all, if they can freely "correct" them like that? It's a very common phenomenon.

The change with god resurrecting a small group of faithful people seems really bizarre, since that is pretty much just a small preview of what they believe god will do after Armageddon, so why change something that not only does not seem to go against their beliefs and gives an indication god could do one of their more extraordinary claims he will do in the future.

"I will be what I will be" is a perfectly valid translation of אהיה אשר אהיה, but Watchtower should have been more transparent that that's not the most common interpretation in Christian circles. "What I choose to be" was completely fabricated.

A simple reading of Luke (and being an atheist i go by just what that author says rather than feel constrained to force harmony with other NT books) seems to indicate heaven, but I've not looked into it from that perspective in a very long time. The Jesus of Luke doesn't mention earth at all as an outcome.
Luke's version of the beautitudes (blessed are the poor, etc) doesn't have the one that Matthew does- blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Luke also has Jesus saying that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will be in the Kingdom (Luke 13:28-30).
The use of paradise is interesting. The writer of Luke never used it again, but the author of Revelation uses it to refer to heaven. So paradise in the 1st/2nd century wasn't automatically earth.
As I said, it's been a while since it did a deep dive of Biblical criticism (the last time it took me about 5 years).
Still, I will grant you that the JW placement of the comma is unique to them. My point was that all translators put the punctuation in based on their own understanding. As in punctuation was not "divinely inspired." 😉

Another example: Numbers shown as Hindu-Arabic symbols (One example: Gen. 8:6) “So at the end of 40 days,” (2013 NWT) “So it occurred that at the end of forty days” (1984 NWT) The ancient Hebrew language did not have our modern number system.
And Rev. 5:12 translates the same Greek word correctly!

Great series and I think is a great complement to the rebuttal videos. It’s sometimes might seem easy to criticise these folk and their weird music videos but they deliberately manipulate the Bible to create a theology it didn’t really intend to present. These are all distortions in the printed version but they are equally adept at doctoring the text even when it remains aligned with other versions. Given failed prophecy, all the JWs can now do is tell us that Jesus ‘evidently meant’ that a generation was actually two generations - a clear distortion of what was originally said and what was obviously meant. They mislead people into thinking they have some special version of the ‘truth’ whereas it becomes quite clear that they not only distort the bible through textual manipulation, then by altering our language to suit their needs but, finally, by also reducing the Bible to a candy-like assortment of verses that they grab from when they pretend to be ‘studying’ the book. The Zombies stuff I don’t ever recall being in a study article; distortion through omission.
Another example: Shape of earth (Isa. 40:22) “There is One who dwells above the circle of the earth,” (NWT 2013) A footnote on word 'circle': “or sphere”. In the 1984 version there is no footnote on word 'circle'. Even a young child knows the difference between a circle and sphere.

1 Corinthians 15:50 in NWT 1987 it reads “flesh and blood” but in the NWT 2013 is changed to “flesh and bones” as is in Luke 24:39.

Me'ne means that God has numbered the days of your Kingdom and he has finished it. The second Me'ne was written twice to announce the end of both kingships of Belshazzar and Nebuchadnezzar. Tekel means that you have been weighed in the balances and you have been found deficient. Parsin means that your Kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians.

They know the correct way to translate this. The proof is in the same chapter by the same author at verse 11 "our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ". It's the exact same greek sentence structure and follows the same grammatical rules. One (Lord) they do correctly and the other (God) they distort to coincide with their views.

Ephesians 2:11-22 in most all translations these scriptures talks of two groups of people mainly the Jews and the Gentiles forming together as one group of peoples under the new covenant of Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 3:6 "And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus." NLT

2. In this scripture Paul said the overseers are to feed the church not shepherd the church. Jesus is our shepherd, but Watchtower put the overseers as our shepherd.
3. If you read the full context of this chapter the church of God here refers to the church of Christ. Since Watchtower deny the deity of Christ being God, they added purchased with the blood of his own Son. All other Bibles indicate purchased with his own blood.

Proverbs 17:17 NWT
« A true friend shows love at all times and is a brother who is born for times of distress. »
Proverbs 17:17 KJV
« A friend loveth at all times, And a brother is born for adversity. »
They inserted the word « is » in front of « a brother ». This change makes the verse all about themselves in their brotherly friendship. All other bibles don’t have the word « is » and so it makes reference to the difference of the love of a friend in a friendship, and the love of a brother, i.e. a family brother or a brother within the church. However WT changed it to appear that this verse speaks only about love within the congregation and we know it’s because WT don’t allow the love of a friend outside the congregation.
2 Timothy 2:4 is one that I cant stand the way they changed it. It reads:
No man serving as a soldier involves himself in the commercial businesses of life, in order to gain the approval of the one who enrolled him as a soldier.
They changed civilian affairs to commercial businesses in order to help their case against higher education as well as working for a living. It is beyond disgusting, manipulative, and abusive to me. Please add it to the list as many have missed this when I speak about it. Thank you
Also they have turned the words commercial and secular into trigger words in the organization. It is all obvious to those recognizing the mental conditioning they constantly massage into the minds of the audience.
How can anyone believe the entire Bible being men have changed ,deluded and omitted so much
I think they changed The I AM in Exodus 3:14 because of John 8:58. U’ll need to look up John 8:58 in any other bible because the NWT doctored it lol
To think, back on the day when I’d bring up scriptures and things that didn’t add up, it came from the Old Testament and that was their excuse “well things changed after Jesus came to earth…” It would be brushed under the rug after that. Now, we find the same mischief in the New Testament and I’d be interested in what their excuse would be now.
