“Tar is not a problem solver” I love it! I HATE that everyone smears tar on roof leaks!! It makes everything harder when you go to take it up and repair it properly. This is a perfect little repair for a simple problem, I woulda done it a little different but this works the same way
Yeah I like to see that step by step method trying to after the roofs already on how you would repair that whole side there's three sides it's boxed in but I need to fix
Keys on the shingles are not offset in waterways, yeah I agree step flash side walls, I used to use a good metal business to customize metals for back and side walls..
Our house may have this beat. Our house was built with wood tri-members supporting the brick, brick was installed before any through wall flashing was done to extend over the wood members back to the sheathing. Roofer came out to do the roof and just threw up some counter flashing at that area with a ton of caulk. Worked for a few months. Now we have leaks all over and our builder is going to have to pull all the brick to add the through wall flashing.
Love the channel man, as a roofing company owner I hate to see this stuff, but it also makes me want to better on every job, we have all made mistakes, but fixing them and being upfront is the most important thing. Integrity is lacking which is why I started my company, love your videos, keep it up, I'm gonna start some soon!
All right congrats to you man? I've been roofing 17 years. The last 3 I've been on my own. No better feeling than building your own business. Let me know when you get some videos out.
Integrity sure is, I am on my 3rd leak where the roof is not properly flashed, it is 6 years old and supposed to have a 50 year warranty behind it. First leak appeared after 2 weeks and they took absolutely no ownership of the issue, charged me an additional 3500 to put a cap on my chimney, which they insisted was the cause. I fought the to reflash the chimney in the process and they did a cut and whack job so badly a 6th grader might have done better. What a joke
If you could make a video of how to flash a chimney and where can anyone buy the metal flashing. Also which roof sealant do you recommend. Good details and very helpful video thank you!
I would like to know how to flash against a brick wall for metal roofing. I have learned about the leglet (?) way but not enough videos showing how to do this. Thx for your help and time.
Owens Corning Duration, decent shingles. I find the Oakridge actually seals better against the stone face rather than the Surenail strip of smooth fabric. Surenail holds the nails better sure, but much easier to break the seal. Owens Corning is the only brand I install in Southern-Ontario. I've patched more IKO and BP roofs than I'll ever be able to remember.
@@GrandRoofingInc The only available asphalt shingle products in my area are OC, GAF, BP, & IKO. I was in Austin, Texas earlier this year to help some friends re-roof their house and we used OC Oakridge and I immediately noticed that they are thinner than the Oakridge in Canada. We don't have any hail rated asphalt products in this part of Canada because we don't get the type of hail to warrant that save for once or twice in a decade.
I’d like to see a video on how to put the flashing/rubber boot around a vent pipe and an electrical mast., the a-z version. For the electrical mast, could you also show how to do it if it’s a reroof and the lines are connected? Not even sure if it’s possible. Good video.
There should be an older one from a couple years ago I did. I'm not sure how much was shown throughout though. I plan on making a sample board with various different things to show how to videos. it's getting pretty cold here in Central Indiana so we're starting to slow down on new roof and stalls. Dang - Just came across where you mentioned trying to get to 5k subscribers - Your content and narration is good, bordering on great. I am amazed that you have not reached that yet. As for the other video of how to do flashing - I am hoping you made it and will search for it. (Did you do a magnetic hammer giveaway? I have seen your other repair vids and makes me want to get one but cannot justify it as I do not nail enough.)
Had to look you up to see your business rating - 5/5 stars!!! Already expected that you would get good reviews - and well earned. Can I assume you or your estimator is BM? Do you do flat roofs or trouble shoot those?
Boy, I wish you could come take a look at my roof (I'm in St Louis, MO, a bit out of your range, unfortunately). I have a leak in my roof in this exact situation. After watching this video, I got up on my roof today and checked out the flashing as best I could. Honestly, I think the guys who did my roof installed the flashing correctly. I'm stumped as to why it still leaks, and so are they.

As long as the homeowner and contractor are clear on that, it can be a good indicator.
One of the biggest causes of water damage is people going overboard on the caulk to try to keep water out and not allowing the water a chance to drain out when it inevitably gets behind the caulk. I'd much rather have a roof, window, siding, etc that allows the water to drain out when it does get in than risking water still getting in but being left with nowhere to escape. Wood can last a long time when its able to dry out after getting wet but when its not able to dry out it will rot in no time

Hi Brian... as a homeowner I've learned so much from your videos. I was wondering what your expert opinion might be on FLASHING on 2nd story sidewall. OK to re-use good existing or replace? Getting quotes that say replace, other quotes say existing is good for re-use. Big differences in cost. 25yr old house... Going from original 3-tab shingles to OC Duration. Original vinyl siding is sidewall material. House is in New England. Google was just as divided. Would love your thoughts on this? Don't know if this is a corner trying to be cut or if it's really not necessary on first re-roof of this house's life. Thanks for educating us!
Most think hammer means tradesman. Although they don’t really know how much we’re doing that is engineering the right way for them to have best done in our knowledge and skills..
Haha I had seen that video! Once when i went out of town to visit friends, they had a leaky window so I made a flashing kick out out of their old license plate. Josh bigger always has banquets though!!
Sealants are for aesthetics, not for keeping out water, they start to degrade as soon as they're exposed to the atmosphere and uv radiation. There should be a licensing process to buy tar, every moron with a truck and ladder use it as a fix all in place of actual knowledge. I like the accordion corner flashing and use it as often as I can, but always leave a dog leg on my flashing. Thanks 🙈🙉🙊
I was taking care of the leak before we got rain for the guy. Did not charge him a penny, wasn't redoing his whole roof. Yes whoever did the roof originally was missing flashing and some of what they did was wrong.

I would like to see u use ice and water like u should, I know we all think we know it all , but to me unless in a high wind area all shingles should only have 4 nails, all shingles should be stepped, unless it’s a special shingle that fits together like a lego piece lol. I have read it is not ok to use aluminum on masonry as a flashing because it can have a inpact on the mortar? Anyone have any info on this?
Thanks
Yes. Do the flashing video
I have a dead roof hog valley that leaks into attic and into the kitchen down stairs.
Random question. U have probably used all kinds of different tin snips what brand have u found to be the best?
Midwest
Is that like kick out flashing I don't know never seen that in 25 years of roofing lol
Again with the free work. ???
Hi Brian... as a homeowner I've learned so much from your videos.
Myself / I would always use NEW metal / I'm a Licenced Contractor out of California and I just like to do it right the first time.
At 1:13 is that a nail hole? On that shingle? If it is thats gonna leak big time
Most think hammer means tradesman. Although they don’t really know how much we’re doing that is engineering the right way for them to have best done in our knowledge and skills..
How much does a lil repair like this cost? Over here 280-400 just curious
How to - definitely !
Good content bro
Putting Edge flange on the edge of a flat roof
BDR makes his step flashing with Banquets. First he drinks it.
Haha I had seen that video! Once when i went out of town to visit friends, they had a leaky window so I made a flashing kick out out of their old license plate. Josh bigger always has banquets though!!
Its called a soldered outside corner!
You rigged it to! LMAO 🤣🤣🤣
do those vids
Do it I want to learn more
Thank you Scottish John
Tar is a roof flashing product for the right system😉
Thank you!
Thanks 🙈🙉🙊
I have to tear off old shingles shed dormer
I don’t want to remove siding !!
I'm glad you're s fan of tar, since you get to work with it so often 🤣
Our face plate like that we dont 2 piece it we bring it down around the cornerwith step and counter.
Although that front part is small, there should still be a piece of pan flashing, and you didn't do that🤔🧐
Thanks 🙈🙉🙊
I was taking care of the leak before we got rain for the guy. Did not charge him a penny, wasn't redoing his whole roof. Yes whoever did the roof originally was missing flashing and some of what they did was wrong.
@@GrandRoofingInc Wasn't knocking you at all. I was just pointing something else the previous roofer disregarded.
I appreciate your videos.
Sorry if you took it the wrong way.
Thanks 🙈🙉🙊
No you're fine I didn't take it bad. Just wasn't sure if you heard in the video that I wasn't charging and was just taking care of the issue at hand. I didn't mean for it to sound bad back to you. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Coated high tensile steel flashings are far superior to aluminum all day long!
Do the videos
dude, Every roof cant be the worst roof ever...
No ice and water?Couldn't see
I would like to see u use ice and water like u should, I know we all think we know it all , but to me unless in a high wind area all shingles should only have 4 nails, all shingles should be stepped, unless it’s a special shingle that fits together like a lego piece lol. Anyway you content is good, but I believe that all penetrations throw a roof should have ice and water on the sides and top, what do u 🤔. I do flat roofing too, and I watch a lot of Zack from Veteran
Im not far from the kokomo area ive been installing for about 5 yrs would love an opportunity to learn from you if u ever needed any part time help i have pictures of some of the roofs ive done if youd like to see maybee atleast give your opinion on my work
Where do you live?
@@GrandRoofingInc i live in laketon indiana its a small town near north manchester and wabash
I know right where that's at, I've driven through there on the way to a friend's up north.
Do have an email or facebook i could send some pictures of my work etc
you dont charge him because you dont want to be responsible lol ...
I want it bring it
👍 flash a chimney
Get that step by step nothing I'm doing a brick chimney the roofs probably 22 years old and I think I screwed it up I didn't do it that way when I flashed it
Shame u don't use lead it's far better and can be dressed round corners easier
Lead Boots can be good but you need to be cautious in certain areas! Around here the squirrels chew them to pieces.
most out there would charge 200 bucks

Why have they not invented roofing material and parts that just works seamless. All these roofing techniques seem kinda Mickey Mouse. You would think in 2021 we would have better products for roofing that just got into place without having to patch this and that.
9:44 would this tool help you for that purpose? I just saw it on another channel: ruclips.net/video/v_tFw9kevJ0/видео.html
bro, some gloves!
Dont have a seem there that's a problem, that needs a whole new roof.that flat tin was not a proper patch
Too many commercials
Didn’t look pretty at all . I would not film this hack job. Sorry
