You Can Sew This Cap ... A Tutorial

- This is a step-by-step guide on sewing this cap. You can download the pattern below and then follow along as I demonstrate how I turn this pattern into a wearable hat.
I used parts from an old hat for the brim/bill and back snaps. It's a good way to recycle old hats. You can buy these parts new if you want too. Alternatively, you can also make your own with things you find around the house.

Your cap Video is phenomenal! I’ve been thinking about trying to make a visor, but your cap design looks like an interesting challenge. Thank you for your time and talent.❤️

Nicely done. Thanks for putting metric equivalents on the screen for us non-imperial measurement people, it's an inclusive touch and i appreciate it.
Oh wonderful, I'm glad you appreciate it and thanks for watching. 🙏🏻
You are truly a King, thank you for doing these tutorials.
Well you are very kind, thank you! Happy Sewing.
Very lovely! I'm going to make one with a leather bill. Been wanting to try out my luck at making a ball cap style hat. Now I have the perfect opportunity.
Oh nice! A leather bill would be pretty cool as well. Hopefully you get around to it and it turns out as you hope!
I love your detailed explanation, it makes my job a lot easier. These days, I have become interested in vintage clothing, and I would like to watch the production of a victorian waistcoat from your description.
That would be a interesting challenge indeed! Thank you for the suggestion, I will consider it for a future video. Thanks for watching. 🙏🏻
Love your work 👏👏👏 always so excited when you put out a new video 🤗
I'm chuffed to hear it. Thanks for your interest in my content and for watching.

excellent, I've been thinking it would be interesting to make a cap recently
oh nice, well hopefully you give it a go and are able to make what you want!
Quality content! ❤
🤠🙏🏻
I love this video! I was going to suggest that if you had enough width of fabric for the sweatband, instead of piecing it together, maybe try cutting it on the bias next time. That always helps for curved pieces
Ahhh, that's a great tip! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome
Amazing! 😎
Thank you and thanks for watching. 🙏🏻
Ohh.. i like it ❤
I'm happy to hear it. 🙏🏻
Awesome❤
Lovely ans smooth tutorial. Keep it up.
Please a video of the cutting/measurements tutorial.
Thanks for watching and thank you for the suggestion, I will consider it for a future video.
Thanks!
You are generous. Thank you.
Thank you!
🤠🙏🏻
Please give measurements and drafting also
Thank you for the suggestion, perhaps I could do that in a future video.
@@CorneliusQuiring please in a hurry. It's important😊
Love your style and your work. Could you please provide more info about that plastic-like interface you used in this hat? Brand name perhaps?
I pulled it out an old hat, but I did do a quick Google for "hat brims" and found various options.
@@CorneliusQuiring Thank you. I was referring to the interface used to stiffen the front piece above the brim.
I was looking for this same information, literally. Thanks for asking! I hope he responds.@@muddg
Appreciate the tutorial! What seam allowance did you use when sewing the sweatband onto the hat? I tried it at 1/4" and it didn't work very well. Thanks!
I used a 0.5" seam allowance.
Awesome video! What is the thick plastic interface material mentioned around minute 2:00? Can you provide a link from Amazon or other to purchase?
I asked for "thick plastic inferfacing"at my local thrift store. I fear I don't know the proper name / online resource.
Great tutorial as usual. When sewing the peak of the cap, I'm a little confused. You start sewing in the centre and go to the end, but how does it work sewing the other side? Thank you, Matt.
I flip it around the other way so the bill is facing inwards, I start in the middle again and work my way out to the other side. It's a bit trickier but still works.
Sir , about cuban collar shirt I need more in details, pls if possible , thanks
If you check my feed, I have a video about this very thing.
Hey! Great tutorial, really east and fun to follow! If you would say something about sizing how would you estimate the finished cap in size based on your pattern? Cheers!
I based the hat on a size medium hat.
@@CorneliusQuiring thank you very much 🙂
By the way: cutting the paper pattern inside or outside black line?
I suggest cutting on the line.
What materials did you use sir. I'm interested in making one for my project. Thank you.
Just a regular cotton twill fabric. This one had just a touch of stretch in it, but that's not necessary.
Hey brother, if I don't habe a iron is there anything else I can do as a replacement?
I wouldn't know what else to use. I reckon you could get a used one for a low price. It's worth the investment.
Hey brother (about to make a tailor's helm and about to get a iron to do this!!!!!!!) Could you possibly look into a tutorial for a male cardigan? I wanna make some to go with my outfits but can't seem to find a pattern online without paying money sadly. Much love man, hope your well
(A wallet would be cool too)
Most certainly, thank you for the suggestion, I will consider it for a future video. Hopefully the tailor's ham turns out!
@@CorneliusQuiringthanks brother, you are the best teacher ever lol super excited to see what else you do on your channel! Also odd but something I wanna mention, could I use old blue jeans from thrift stores for fabric for this hat? Really wanting to make it but dont have money right now to really get new rolls of stuff
You most certainly can. I had originally planned to use jeans myself actually. :)
What head circumference would this hat fit?
It should fit a typical medium sized head.
Whats the interfacing called exactly?
Fusible Interfacing.
what make/model sewing machine are you using?
Neechi 535
Do you need a special needle or foot to sew through all that fabric?
Nothing special needed. I didn't at least.

great video and tutorial as usual however as a grown man, this hat is about 5 sizes too small haha
Well thank you and I guess it could be sized up too :)
@@CorneliusQuiring This is a valid point you make. I shall try again!
