Right?! It's wild (and awesome) to see such modern classics get expansions after such a long time. I love it.
I like to think of it as the improved version for sure.

It seems like a great addition. Plenty of new and extended content, but not too much--at least that how it seems.

Don't know if this expansion wouldn't make the game too complex for me (and especially my game group, we haven't even played everything from the base game) to enjoy. But as a Gaia Project fan I will still get it.

looks like for you Gen Con attendees, rumor has it that Capstone may sell maximum 50 copies per day! I wont be going and will need to patiently wait. But for the rest of you, please dont hurt yourselves trying to get this! lol
After many years of attending, I’ve given up on trying to get hot limited quantity items. To say they sell fast is an understatement. I’ve seen ones that were sold out less than 5 minutes after the hall opened. A couple years ago my friend and I tried to get Twilight Inscription. By 10:02, the line was wrapped around the booth. By 10:04, they announced they had no more.
Does it fit all in the base box?
I haven't put it in there, but I think it should. It just might take some thought as you place boards and bags in there.😅
Only issue i got is the old gaia box is to small and the insert i got aint able to hold anything of the new stuff
Oh, yeah. I would guess if you had a custom insert, the new stuff would not fit. I think in the standard box though, it might (bags and boards).
Do you know if everything is compatible with the Automa?
Yes this can be used in solo using Automa. There is info on Automa in the rulebook, you can fine on bbg.
Does it take it to 5 players?
No. It's still 1 to 4.
Check out the name of the lost fleets, around 4:00, total homage to other board games like Terraforming Mars, Eclipse, Twilight Imperium, Star Wars Rebellion, lol. Edit: they mentioned it also at the 5:30 mark.

Why did this expansion take so long to be released?
To differentiate from age of innovation
Honestly, probably the balancing. There are a LOT of moving parts here, which would've taken 1000's of hours of play testing. Just my 2 cents. Hearing from the designers, they wouldn't release something half hearted.
i used to critisize the designers for rehashing a proven system into several games thus producing the same game terra nova terra mystica gaia project age of innovation..now hearing and seeing this expansion...i dont like it...its adding cool stuff for sure but its overcomplicating an already thinky game...i know someome who has played 100 games of gaia project and has said every game was different in some aspect...so if someone who has played GP that much still finds depth in the base game i see no need to buy this...i would rather they expanded the expansion into a full game...
But it's not just a retheme. The considerations for this game is totally different than say age of innovation. Azul, love letter, etc are way more egregious examples of simple reskins
Terra Nova is not by the same designers, so perhaps you should reserve your judgement until you are more informed?
