Great episode! Rishi and Neetu are weird for me, they are great on screen but their real life personalities make it difficult to truly love them. Always found it interesting that both Randhir and Rishi (not sure about the other brother) lived through Raj Kapoor being a pretty bad husband and dad and yet they were also terrible husbands and fathers.

@maidamudassar4860 So true! You can tell from their interviews (Simi Garewal, Kapil Sharma) as well that their marriage was v toxic. The Kapoors in general are a cautionary tale. Rajiv (the third brother) was divorced and didn't have kids. - Pitu

My Lolo recommendations for Beth would be 1) dil toh pagal hai, I think karisma in that film really speeded up the decline of Madhuri's somewhat stuttering career at that point. She is so young, fresh, and hawt in it and such an interesting character too! Also, zubeidaa / fiza from her later work, and maybe something zany, like hero number one from her govinda era

I've actually seen all of those but would need to revisit. Thanks! :)

Their tempestuous personal lives aside, they’re one of the loveliest airs in Hindi Cinema.
Also, I’ve always wanted to see the Neetu Singh-Rishi Kapoor-Dimple Kapadia love triangle

@PokhrajRoy. You mean a Sislilaesque movie set in Shimla with lots of snowball fights? Sounds great! - Pitu

Rakhee-Rishi-Neetu Dusara Aadmi is the closest of that scenario. Of course it was totally a Rakhee movie. Rakhee cast in a perfect role and delivers as well

What a lovely episode. I just binge-listened to some of my favourite episodes of your podcast (i loooove the dance dance episode, wrath episode in 7 sins and the saree episode so much!!❤) and then listened to this one.
Do you know nirula’s? rishi kapoor ji is definitely golden glow ice cream soda from nirula’s for me! Whenever I would throw a tantrum as a kid my parents played om shanti om song or tayyab ali on RUclips and would sit before the screen with me and that’s it, i’d stop crying just like that. that’s how friendly and fun chintu mama’s energy is for me, just like a glass of golden glow. Raju Chacha is my favourite movie of his.
Congrats on almost reaching a hundred episodes!! That’s a wonderful landmark. I have a question for you both for any ama you may do in the future? Which episode of filmi ladies is your personal favourite and why?

@1245jo Thank you so much for your lovely words! Yes I have fond memories of eating pizza at Nirulas ages ago on my trips to Delhi. But I never had golden glow ice cream. It sounds perfect for Rishi tho. He was definitely Raj's golden boy.
I like the idea of doing an ama. We kinda did one for our 1st anniversary eps.
My fave ep is the Rocky and Rani one coz we disagreed on everything. It's fun to disagree with Beth! 😁 - Pitu

Love nirula’s, love delhi ❤️ there’s a scene in dil dhadakane do where ranveer is sulking and shefali’s character asks him if he wants to have hot chocolate fudge from nirula’s and he shrugs. I loved that detail!! it’s such a good delhi reference.
Yes, I remember that anniversary episode. Such fun! I need to watch rocky rani :( it released in the same week as barbenheimer and I had to make some tough choices.

@1245jo Also "bread pakoke ki kasam" from Band baja baraat. Do people still go to Nirulas? You know how with time popular things fall bh the wayside. Like i was telling Beth about Archies stores once and in the cakes episodei think I had mentioned Monginis.- Pitu

@@filmiladies that bread pakora dialogue is so good. I haven't heard about Monginis (Wenger's cakes are still very popular tho) and nirula's ice creams, sundaes etc. are popular. the savoury items aren't that good anymore. they have a lot of branches across Delhi but the cp one is bestest. Delhi people definitely have a lot of affection and nostalgia attached to nirula's

@@1245jo Yea Nirulas is an institution. I've been twice to Delhi as a kid and once as an adult. Went to Nirullas both times as a kid.- Pitu

1.Like all humans, Rishi was a complex character. His social media personality was him in nutshell. Have a personal anecdote that I'll not share since the party wronged by Rishi, didnt feel it that way.
    2. 49:00 he did explore different role while he was being cast repeteadly in romantic hero side-hero roles.
For example khoj (1989), Barood (1976), Ek Chadar Mailisi (1986)
    Check those out.
About him overstreching the romantic hero image, was not his fault. If the producers were ready pay him, I say why not. Kumar Gaurav could have inherited the romantic hero slot from Rishi. But Kumar was just unlucky. In spite better acting skills than his dad, better looks, dancing skills, he was unlucky. Kamal Hassan did some similar roles in the 1980s, but was rejected by the Hindi industry. So Rishi just rode his luck.
    3. Neetu was way better actress than Babita
    4. Shammi a good husband really🤔 Maybe its time you should do a episode on Mumtaaz
    5. While Shashi was definitely more devoted husband, he too had his own quirks as a "Kapoor". His looking down upon Mumtaaz as a "B-grade starlet", and then in his lean period her graciously signing up movie opposite him, doesn't show him in good light.
Of course with all their personality flaws, I still like Shash, Rishi, and Shammi in that order.
