  • Found a shorted to ground compressoron a Ruud variable speed compressor. The system was orignally i stalled in 2018 and the condenser was tepalced in 2021. This was a second failure to the customers compressor. If the issues continue we will upgrade the system to something more reliable for them

      I should have definitely done that 🤦‍♂️ tbh I think they got a really good back in 2019 the 4 ton system at cost them 9k, and the repair of the first system and this keeps them under 11k. The system now probably cost itself 8k+ or so. But someone did comment a very logical statement lol said ya it’s 18-20 seer efficient because the thing is always down not running making it more cost effective 😂

    Nice vid and repair. There are usually a couple of solder points on the condenser, unsolder or cut and you can remove the coil. I finally figured that out. Once you remove a few condenser coils, especially the tall ones, It's just a few minutes to put it all back together again. Makes life easier, no more climbing in or damaged coil fins by heavy boots and saves your back when you age. I would never make any warranty statements on the tube. If the distributor catches wind about the system should never have been installed on the house, they can terminate any agreement they may have approved. Enjoying your vids and it is getting hot.

    • @KoolinwithKrauss
      @KoolinwithKrauss  Месяц назад

      That would definitely be a life safer!! So much more space and better access!! That was installed by another company fortunately. I think it’s standard practice on inverter systems from other manufacturers that if compressor fails you get 1 lifetime condenser replacement. But solid advice for sure, they could definitely retract, thanks man appreciate it!!

    Third compressor and nothing else has been done to determine what is killing them. They don't just fail!
    In the video, you did not show replacing the filter/drier or flowing nitrogen while brazing.
    You left the accumulator in and the electronics. At 3 compressors, ALL that would be replaced if I were doing that job.
    Again, you have something causing the compressors to fail. Until you determine that, it will continue to happen.
    You made a statement about, unless I misunderstood it, that the 10 year warranty starts over. If Rheem does that, they would be the only one that I know of that does that!!

    • @KoolinwithKrauss
      @KoolinwithKrauss  Месяц назад +1

      This was the 2nd compressor not the 3rd, nitro was flown. Everything doesn’t get shown, I charged the system with new refrigerant didn’t show that either, unbolted compressor, plugged it up etc. can’t expect the whole process to be filmed be. 2-4 hour video, but definitely check out some of my other videos man, I’m big on nitro flow , depends on how I’m feeling while filming and editing. I generally make it a point to show nitro flowing for the comments that mention it 😂
      You can see the voltage is 249.6 which is definitely high for this system they want it down closer to that 240 but in Florida we have large amounts of surges and brown outs. Recently installed surge protection as well, this was after customer was experiencing the issue. Also I emphasized how under sized the duct was that why we replaced it a week prior and could have contributed to the failure 👍
      Said that if the customer wanted to upgrade the system Ruud would replace the condenser no charge but customer would need to purchased the air handler and the new econet to match, which in turn would start a new warranty on the system!

      When you and the customer say "... this is the second one..." does that mean that the compressor you are checking is the second one in the unit(original & replacement)? If so, then the compressor in the video is the THIRD one, right?
      As for the nitrogen and filter/drier comment, you are correct that I presumed you did not use/replace. I based that on the video that is available and I did not see either one and you did not mention either one.
      If you did replace the filter/drier and use nitrogen, AWESOME!!
      Yes, I did hear you mention the ductwork.
      I did wonder about the electrical being 249VAC and how that would contribute to the situation.

    • @KoolinwithKrauss
      @KoolinwithKrauss  Месяц назад +2

      @@jrsmyth9761 “Third compressor and nothing else has been done to determine what is killing them” - in the tense it’s used, states there have been 3 compressor failures to this point. Which is not the case. This is the 2nd compressor to be replaced. And as in determining the failures, voltage spikes and the ductwork it’s pretty evident. This isn’t an educational channel by any means, I try to just display some of the work I do in an entertaining way not so much educational, because I’m definitely not that guy 😂

  • @RJMaker
    @RJMaker Месяц назад +1

    Thanks for the video!
    Not sure what the min/max electrical specs are on that unit (I see it's base rated @ 208/230), but 249vac seems quite high, especially for an inverter system. If your area is like ours, I'm sure during the day the utility is increasing voltage to deal with demand and could be easily hitting ~253+. The DC buss could be running at > 360vdc (vac x 1.414)
    All that said, generally the inverter blows, and not the compressor, but considering this is the 2nd comp. failure.. Hmmmm
    EDIT: Might be time for a buck/boost transformer.
