I remember when bone broth started, I was like, yeah of course, people have been making stock forever. It's amazing, delicious, nourishing. It's not new or ground breaking. ACV drinking is modern speak for "shrubs" which are a traditional low sugar probiotic refreshing beverage. Greens powders = bitter greens spring "tonics" that people traditionally searched out (like nettles, poke, dandelion) after a winter of blander, non fresh food. Etc etc etc. So to sum up, most "superfoods" just seem like repackaged and overhyped traditional foods, so if you were eating a lot of traditional and whole foods (like Abbey is always recommending) you were "superfooding" before it was trendy!

And they add the suffix "er" to make it a "thing". And the best is "follow-er". So you are no longer just an individual with interests, nope you are a Follower of this Influencer.
Can anyone...Anyone...wake up? This is getting too obvious. And we are all acting like we don't know we're playing a game we know is not supporting us. It's ego-obsessed advertisers of their own personal life "influencers" and people literally calling themselves or accepting the title as "followers". In the not so far past, a follow-er is either considered someone who is losing hence they're not creating, or someone that's desperate like a stalker. "I'm following you".

    • @Diana-qp2rw

I’m not sure if that can be said.
When our dog was younger we only fed her raw meat with some supplements (if I recall correctly, bone powder, vegetable powders and stuff like that) we added to it - it was recommended, it is (just as added vegetables) meant to imitate what’s inside the stomach of a smaller animals the dog (wolf) would eat in the nature.
It’s called BARF (born again raw feeders) and it’s extremely natural and it has many health benefits if a puppy grows up eating like this. But you have to supplement certain things that you don’t get in meat you buy - would be a bit too difficult to go hunting for your dog lol. We stopped it eventually (after two years I think) because it was complicated and sometimes disgusting, but it’s a good way to feed a dog and puppies who grow up like that benefit a lot.

For anybody looking for a cheap and easy way to consume collagen:
Family packs of chicken thighs / legs / quarters with skin on
We remove the skin and fat and put it in a pot until the fat is rendered and the water evaporates. This is how schmaltz is made (it's healthier than olive oil)
Strain the skin out and add it to your chicken bones when making stock.
The bones are somewhat difficult to remove from raw chicken so we put the skinned chicken in the oven and then remove the bones after the meat is fully cooked. The bones are used in the broth

I have so many disabilities - fibromyalgia and fibromyalgia-precipitated IBS the frontrunners - that eating enough, eating at all, eating healthy, and eating without triggering a flare are all their own unique issues. It's about finding what works for you. I can't always prepare fresh vegetables, so I drink cold-pressed juice and eat canned or frozen vegetables. I take a LOT of supplements and I'm on a LOT of prescription medications, but here's the thing: I only change one factor per month. (Or per 60-90 days if evidence shows longer use or build-up is required, or e.g. a psych med requires titrating up.) If I don't feel a difference after 30 days, I stop and see if I then feel worse. This goes for prescriptions (under doctor supervision), OTC meds (doctor or specialist advice or recommendation as well as talking with a holistic practitioner), supplements (I work with my doctors, a nutritionist, and a clinical herbalist), AND major dietary changes. Otherwise, how the heck do you know what thing is helping? IF the thing's helping? It may take longer, but I can tell you that every single thing I'm deliberately doing has made a noticeable difference. Could it be placebo effect for some of them? Sure. Is this much of a cumulative improvement likely to be a placebo effect for ALL the changes I've made? Not likely. (And I had allergic or negative reactions to prescription medications AND herbal supplements FOUR FREAKING TIMES in 2023 so it's not like it's all sunshine and roses and every change makes me feel better, either.) Know yourself and make incremental changes.

I was highly critical of the collagen supplement ("Teh collagen" :D) when it came out, since I already use the vitamins C and A in skincare to boost collagen and elastin in my skin and we don't have the proof the orally consumed collagen manages to get to the cells, but it seems that it gets the job done.

Like, I remember having lion's mane mushrooms in my noodles a few days back. I just wished foods popular amongst certain ethnic groups and cultures are marketed and overpriced as "super foods".
