Think this why I struggle to stay consistent i love walking and listening to music but my mind tells me that's not enough that I will be stuck with my much hated stomach fat if I don't do RUclips exercises or sit ups then I get depressed and don't walk as I think whats the point it won't change my body. Definitely need to remember walking is good for the body and my mental help so much x
@@danicalindsay303 I used to feel exactly the same way, and then I started to practice martial arts. Everything changed. I wanted to be fit to get better at my sport! I introduced yoga and muscle training to my routine in order to achieve my martial goals. I haven't been able to practice martial arts since this pandemic started and I have been feeling the self-hatred creeping back in. It has helped me realize how far I have come and how fragile our mental equilibrium is. I hope you find a sport you truly love!! It changed my life and I can't wait to be able to practice it again, for it to make my life better once more.
I only lost weight because I hated my body and thankfully I did it in a healthy way. I want to love it someday, that's why I'm working on it. (I've always been self-conscious due to bullying my entire childhood so it's hard to love myself honestly)
Yes it’s exactly why I won’t get an account! I feel like I’d be dooming myself to a million fear foods afterwards and end up spending a million dollars on crappy teas. ☕️ 🍵

i'm recovered from anorexia and my (ed specialized) therapist told me that if i can't stop thinking about a food, i'm probably hungry or my body otherwise needs it. at that time, i didn't feel hunger cues. eating things because they sounded good and because my body wanted them saved my life. i could've died from doing some of the things in this video, and i think that's not talked about enough. i hope abbey's channel helps other people who are in a similar position that i was, because abbey's channel helps me learn more about the scientific perspective of intuitive eating and i love that!
I tried herbalife for a year with a few friends (years ago). They all lost weight very fast while I didn't lose anything. But they got very jittery and sick after only a few weeks and had to tap out. Turns out herbalife contains absolutely insane amounts of caffeïne!! I'm just 'lucky' that my body hardly responds to caffeïne. Kicked that shit to the curb and just started eating better, and THEN the pounds started to drop.
“Lemon & water clears your skin” I wish people would stop saying Just drink water when you have acne. It’s not going to cure acne or reduce it. You are just hydrated & improves the skin from that stand point but it’s not shrinking pimples or getting rid of bacteria
Some of those tips sound so similar to those I saw on the pro ana and mia sites when I was a teen. I can't imagine being a teen in these times with social media.
Omg I say that all the time! How I wouldn’t be able to handle being a teen these days. Something really scary though is all of us commenting here who used to go on those sites have probably spoken to one another.
LEMON 👏WATER 👏CANNOT 👏ACTUALLY 👏MAKE 👏YOU 👏LOOSE 👏WEIGHT. 😊😊 Thanks for saying that, I used to force myself to always add lemon to my water even though I hated the flavor 🤦🏽♀️
One thing I as a historian have learned is that most people through most of history didn’t do nearly the kind of exercise that is recommended today. Instead people moved and moved a lot throughout the day. For example most women did a great deal of manual labor just cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry. I like the idea of making small changes to your day that make you move more, and looking to the past is a great way to do that! Knead bread by hand, hang your clothes to dry, stand to do ironing, walk everywhere you can, garden, dig, build, sew!
This! I like to workout but people often underestimate how much exercise you can get without following a specific workout. Beating cream or egg whites by hand is one of the best arm workouts out there😄
fruitshakebanaane yep! Just cutting down on using machines like electric beaters or mixers is a great way to get an arm workout while doing your normal daily cooking
Agree!! When school is in session (and here in Texas we're back to in-person learning), I move all. the. time. I walk my daughter to school, and walk her home from school (and keep in mind for me, I'm walking to school, back home, then back to school in the afternoon and then back home with her). It's about 2/3 of a mile altogether. Then during the day, I'm cleaning the house, vacuuming, getting in a quick strength workout, I walk the dog, I try to park far away at grocery stores, etc. It all adds up! Also, painting a room in your house works your muscles in ways I never would have imagined because of how you're standing on a ladder, balancing, squatting, etc. I don't suggest painting a room just for the workout component, but I'm in the middle of painting a couple of rooms in my house right now and it's amazing how much of a burn I feel afterwards.
ANOTHER one you recorded whilst pregnant?!?! You work SO hard lady! I bow 👑! Please be gentle to your postpartum self 🥰 you are wonderful and doing an amazing job!
Abby, I would love it if you did a video on staying healthy as a student, especially one who’s on a meal plan or budget and has less choice over foods.
I can’t believe the whole “if you think you’re hungry, you’re probably thirsty” nonsense is still around. I remember hearing that as a kid, and even then it made absolutely no sense. Please make it stop. 😖
When you think your hungry you should consider it maybe only appetite (lust) which will go away when you distract yourself (just go on a walk). Many people confused those two and eat when they are actually not hungry. And yes you can mistake thirsty for being hungry. If you were truly hungry, you might still feel a stomach pang, whereas if you were just thirsty, you'll feel satisfied after drinking something.
People really just can’t grasp that losing weight is a side effect of living a better life. Small steps to create habits is the best way. I personally for 6 months just worked on having better portions. I stopped stuffing myself to the point of feeling sick. After six months of that becoming a habit. I said “ok, now I’ll add some healthier meals”. Just dinner. All that needed to be a solid well rounded meal was dinner. Then after a month breakfast was healthier along with dinner. Then after a month I stopped having snacks after dinner. Then I cut out soda. Just slowly build upon your habits over time and you’ll have long lasting results and you won’t feel like you’re giving everything up. Just changing my portions (still eating pretty poorly) I lost 30 lbs over those 6 months. If you fail, you aren’t a lost cause. Just pick back up the next day. It’s a process.
I’ve been using a similar process! I started with cutting out soda and reducing my sweets, and am trying to actually eat breakfast. That plus drinking lots of water. It’s a slow process, but it is so worth it to make sustainable lifestyle changes instead of changing everything all at once and nothing sticks.
Absolutely!! I started by checking if I can replace my sweetened drinks and make my favourite drinks less caloric, but concentrated only on that for a WHILE until I decided I'm ready for the next step and then the next step and so on. Was a long process of readjusting the very very small stuff that ended eventually adding up. And yes best advice is to just keep going, there shouldn't be quick fix and no "suffer for the goal" because your goal is to keep majority of the changes forever.. 😃
Wow I love your progressive approach! I think most people struggle with the idea of losing weight over half a year/a year/more period of time... We all want to see results and reach out "weight goal" within a couple of weeks, which is the perfect breeding ground for developing unhealthy relationship with food & diet patterns 😅
37:12 hits hard. If one is struggling to maintain a lower weight just to be at a certain size and look aesthetically pleasing, that might not be the healthiest, happiest weight for you. So true, Queen Abbey.
I have had the same weight for the past 6 years. Recent years I workout so much because I love it, it’s my fun activities during the week. I go 5-6 days a week. I recently got a PT and started weight lifting, still no major weight change but obviously SO much stronger than before. I don’t think I care too much about my weight anymore.
remember that you could be gaining muscle but losing fat and staying the same weight, don't focus too much on what the scales say! the feeling of getting stronger is so great
It's funny how average people give out advice as if dieticians, doctors, personal trainers etc didn't exist. It's also the same with skin care. "this worked for me so it should work for everyone" Don't we value these professions enough? We don't want to pay anyone for advice? We think everything with the human body (except the brain) is so simple and that we're all alike?
I think the problem is accessibility :( I’m sure my insurance won’t cover a consultation with a dietician. Especially after needing to call an ambulance for my husband. It was an actual emergency and our insurance still didn’t cover the ride to the hospital, so we received a lovely $3,000 bill in the mail 🥰 ‘merica! Hoping his insurance with his new job is better and I might be able to see a dietician!
@@Becky0494 I think you have a good point! If more ppl realize that only professionals have a deep enough understanding of weight and eating, and they are easily accessible to everyone, they probably won't listen to their neighbor or those random youtubers.
Can you do a video about/explain/debunk the idea of “negative calorie foods” ie the idea that celery, apples, other water heavy foods take more calories to burn than the calories in the food?
I second! I fell into this trap at the height of my disorder. tw ed thoughts . . it seemed so easy to be like "oh this thing doesn't cost a lot, there's not a lot of calories, but it burns so many to digest, plus exercise? sign me up"
Not usually one to comment but I can't not let you know that your videos have *really* helped me with my difficulties with diet and body image. I find I've become a lot more critical minded about "tips" like some of these, or diet culture-y statements from friends/family/influencers/media that I had not previously realized were affecting me so much!! So grateful for everything you do Abbey!
I like that you’re adding positive ones too because even though there is a lot of bad information there are some good ones but I like how you show people the differences. 💕
I guess we had similar harmful influences growing up but the thought of some algorithm showing these type of videos to very young people absolutely terrifies me, I feel so bad for them...
TW: mention of ed: these videos help with my ED so much... like, thank you. your videos sort of shut up the dumb voice in my head and make me go eat normally. Going to go make some soup :)
me too! she really reassures me that eating balanced, whole meals is healthy and good (and that it's okay to eat sweets in moderation if you want to). i didn't eat this morning but i just had some berries and bread and hummus until i was full because her videos inspired me
About the exercise thing, I used to run before quarantine and I genuinely liked it. I was in fourth grade when I started wanting to lose weight, so that's why I ran, but everyone told me I was skinny, so I stopped trying to lose weight, but continued running bc I liked it. A few years later and I am in quarantine, actually needing to lose a few pounds and as a growing 13 year old, I can't be eating nothing. Luckily my bad eating habits didn't last for long, but I still hated running bc now, I viewed it as a mean of losing weight, not for fun. I decided that I wanted to join cross country and improve my endurance in high school. I started running as a hobby and not as a punishment, and once I started telling myself that I liked running (which I realized I actually did), I now love waking up and running bc it is fun now, and I know it is keeping me healthy, and will support my health and weight in the long term.
Lemon water from an oral health perspective - citric acid is right up there on the hierarchy of erosive agents, aka causes your lovely teeth to erode away. What's even higher on the list: citric acid warmed up (aka lemon in warm water)
@@Knowledge629 you are absolutely right that those tips help mitigate the effects. Thanks for that addition to my comment as that's good advice to share. We are never going to avoid acids completely and the odd lemon water is not going to be an issue but I would also recommend not making it a daily habit to help reduce the frequency of exposure.
@@Knowledge629correct! I like lemon in my water and sparking water. I used the lemon with a pack of stevia in sparkling water because pop is too addictive to my brain.
I don't believe the "hunger and thirst feels different" thing. I personally find myself wanting sugary things when I'm thirsty and when I drink some water, it goes away. I think it works differently for different people since I've never been able to feel when I'm thirsty and tend to drink too little. I don't recognize thirst ques.
Hi! old comment, but I had the same issue you have before I started another wrong weight loss, then well needed reversed diet... I'm not yet out of the reverse diet, but I eat a far more balanced diet now. And that brought back to me true thirst instead of sugar cravings. Maybe you have a slight diet inbalance too (maybe you don't. It's just a small idea since this whole journey is kind of changing a lot of things I thought I knew about myself. But in fact those were just things which slowly happened along my bad diet habits ^^)
I think everyone must be different. I can definitely tell if I'm thirsty vs. hungry, and when I'm thirsty I actively don't want sweet drinks--they're more like food/dessert and don't make me feel less thirsty.
I recently fell back into my disordered and restrictive eating habits. After about a two weeks of unhealthy, extreme weight loss, I’ve decided to add this channel to my list of coping mechanisms for when I’m feeling triggered or if I’m falling back into my old ways. This channel is a great reminder that acting on my emotions and engaging in restrictive eating is not reasonable. And it will not help me accomplish my intellectual, career, or health goals. It is not even a reasonable approach to reaching my more superficial aesthetic goals. Thanks Abbey 🥺✨☹️
I would love if you could make a video with nutrition tips & recommendations for people who work night shift! It has been the hardest transition, going from being a normally active person, to losing my appetite, energy & just being totally confused as to when I’m actually hungry or just dead tired & emotional-eating.🥴 Thank you for all your videos, learn something new every time I tune in!😊
Ohh I’d be interested in this one! My husband has been working midnight 8/12 hour shifts for about 2 years now but he’s always complaining how he still can’t get used to it. Besides being tired pretty frequently, he’ll often only eat one big meal a day before he starts work, probably because his body just isn’t used to eating a lunch at 4 am when he’s halfway through a shift. So I’m definitely interested when this video comes out! 😊
One thing I do want to mention specifically for people with ADHD or autism is that I’ve found that when I need an oral stim I sometimes feel either really hungry or really thirsty even if I’ve just eaten/drank. For some of us we need oral stimulation from a chew toy, gum, etc. and sometimes the feeling of hunger or thirst is how our bodies tell us this, particularly since some of us don’t have the same abilities to read our bodies cues, for example when I was a kid hunger and nausea felt the same. I’m sure this doesn’t apply to everyone but I’ve definitely found it true for me!
Omg, I can't agree enough with that. Even as an adult with ADHD, I still have a tough time differentiating hunger and nausea, even though I've been dealing with that since childhood! I tend to dislike gums, but I do suck on hard candies (natural ones, they also help with my throat these days) to ease off the need for oral stimulation (when I know I'm actually not hungry or thirsty). I'm glad I'm not the only one out there.
I feel so seen. I have problems that should cause me to be underweight, but because ADHD said no that pain means hungry. Same with the stimulation. I swear my mouth gets bored.
Isak Wondo that’s awesome! I recently started using chewlery and it’s really changed my life, I’m just so so much calmer. Especially if I let myself get too hungry I still can’t differentiate hunger and nausea, and I often won’t get the early signs of hunger at all. When I was little this was particularly difficult because it meant that during periods where I was extra anxious/having sensory overload I often wasn’t able to eat enough. A lot of kids with autism in particular (and particularly girls) struggle with food because of textures, sensory overload, and lack of hunger/fullness cues or mixing up those cues, or needing to have ridged eating patterns. I for example have never been able to eat fruit! The texture, smell, etc. makes me feel sick and go into sensory overload. I hate even watching other people/smelling fruit. Luckily I eat my veggies.
Psychwriteify yes! Your mouth literally does get bored! People with autism and/or ADHD have different sensory needs than neurotypicals. We need to stim and that can look like chewing on things, bouncing, shaking, hand flapping or flicking, pinching or picking, playing with hair, vocal stimming. There are great tools for oral stims as well, such as chewy necklaces, vibrating tooth brushes, hand held chews etc. We have to treat sensory needs as real needs just like eating or drinking!
awesome info! i have always love eating and that made me lose weight super hard, tried a lot of diets and exercises along with it, but what made it possible was agoge diet. it changed my life. its always about the right diet for u
I'd love to get a video on protein powders! I'm allergic to dairy and soy and I have heard iffy things about pea protein - do you have any vegan soy free you recommend? And thoughts on adding protein powders to smoothies or oatmeal?
yes, Abbey, please do a video on protein powders because I’ve always wondered if it’s better to just eat more meat & eggs or add powder. In other words, are all protein sources equal?
@@alien-iw1zj just FYI, collagen protein is not a source of complete protein either :) some brands like PE Science and Legion Athletics combine diff sources of veg protein (ex pea and brown rice) to make complete proteins for their vegan proteins. Studies show neither vegan protein powders or egg white protein powders with equal amino acid profiles stimulate muscle protein synthesis to the degree that whey does. It's speculated that's due to other properties of whey aside from the amino acid profile (perhaps insulin response and/or igf1 but unsure/don't quote me on that lol). Protein powder is really not necessary and more of a convenience option or good if you struggle to get in enough protein in your diet due to low appetite, etc. I'm violently lactose intolerant and don't respond well to soy so I have been using the KOS protein powder off of Amazon lately. It's pretty good but pricey. You can just eat real food and meet your protein needs typically, even if your goal is muscle gain. There's really no need for powdered food at all for most people. I like that pea protein has lots of iron but I understand concerns about heavy metals in them. I certainly wouldn't rely on powders for nutrition of any kind personally.
Alicia Witt wow, I did not know all that. I guess that’s why it would be great if Abbey did a video on protein sources. I’ve been using the Vital Proteins collagen from Costco. I mostly have been supplementing with it to heal from a 2-yr vegan diet (I would only get ~30-40g protein a day, not good for muscle and hair growth)-it might be anecdotal, but I’ve seen improvements in my skin from the collagen. But, thank you for informing me that it’s not the same as, for example, eating eggs. There really is a lot of misinformation and new (hopefully correct) information out there about protein. I feel like I learn and unlearn something everyday!
That whole “managing your weight during quarantine” is so dumb if you are someone who’ll struggles to have an appetite with all of the current anxiety. I lost weight during the months I didn’t have a job. I didn’t gain weight and it should not be considered the normal. Anxiety can reduce appetite and not everyone gained; some lost.
Good lord! The only time I lost five pounds in a week, it was because I had a stomach bug and couldn’t keep food or liquids from exploding out of... Well... 😐
Your videos, body positivity tik toks and my beginning studies in biology and dietetics helped me working through my disordered eating habbits. I don't feel guilt over food anymore, I have a much better control over what goes into my body and I can't wait to go to university to start dietetics. Thank you ❤
Tiktok is really triggering for those who have ED and also it increases the risk of people developing an ED. I deleted the app because it triggers me and Im in recovery.
I love these videos, but I really have to remind myself that she’s not referring to me when she talks about people who are losing weight or people who need to lose weight. EDs make you take diet talk so personally ugh. Love you Abbey, thank you for your content ❤️
Abbey, sometimes it seems like you are the only one talking sense in this crazy world. Thank you for sharing information on health and overall wellness, I am so grateful to you.
One thing on the whole lemon water debate, while I accept and fully understand it won’t magically give me a flat stomach and skin so clear light shines off my face- I maintain that partially boiled and partially chilled water with lemons and mint is an immense summer drink to cool me down.
@@whitniankney believe me...if I had that kind of time I would (which probably sounds exessive). Not because I want to look a certain way but for mental health reasons.
Love your channel! So educational, entertaining, and honestly affecting me in such a positive way in terms of nutrition and perspective on my body and weight. Thank you for the content you create!
I know this is an old video but I just want to say thank you! Gosh, so many logical, sensible, reassuring things said here that not only resonate but speak directly do my anxiety and self-harming subconscious rhetoric. From Abby to Abbey, THANK YOU! 💕
I literally lost over 200lbs without excersizing or eating (or not eating) in harmful ways. Just literally a healthy diet. *Now* I exercise, but only because I want to and I think it's fun.
The way you describe the futility and self-destruction of the satisfaction hunt makes such sense. And the calm, healthy, loving idea of just having the original craving item and then moving on with your day (without the obsessing and deprivation and binging) is a game changer. Thank you.
Gosh Abbey. I’ve been teetering back and forth between body positivity/body neutrality and desperately wanting to change the way I look. I’m just so thankful I found your channel because hearing nutritional info in such a straight forward and informative way gives me the hope and education I needed to help me realize that I just wanted to be comfortable in my body and I can do that through education and balance. Thanks for inspiring that and helping break that mental instability that I often find myself struggling with!
In may i started a diet with a specialist, since the start i wasn't so on board with a lot of her "tools" like i had to send pictures of EVERY meal to a "support group" the diet was really restrictive and overall it gave me anxiety when i had to show results bc i didn't lose a lot of weight I changed to another specialist and since the start the diet has a lot of food that to the other girl was "bad bad" and i feel really good now, even my emotions feel different
I like to add 10 - 15 min of cardio to my resistance routine for not only the health benefits but because I know that 5x a week will increase my caloric expenditure more so than if I didn’t do that 5x a week, therefore I can eat more and reap the health benefits! So are you saying if I wasn’t to do that 15 min run/sprints after my workout I would have the same tdee/ would make no difference? If this is true why do bodybuilders start to add cardio when cutting?! Because it increases calories burnt!
For me, thirst and hunger often feel exactly the same... But I'm still recovering from an ED and also have ADHD, and one of the results of anorexia is that I have a *terrible* brain body relationship. I feel ? *something*? and then have to go on a quest to figure out what is going on. Am I sad? Am I hungry? Have I had water in the last hour? What is it??? Talk to me body!!!
Also also I find the childhood study confusing as when you look at young sporty children and more inactive children, there’s a clear difference in weight quite often and the children that stay active are often those that say ‘I can eat what I want because I have a high metabolism’ well.. they just move a lot more!
You mentioned that you'd like to look people with a more positive outlook to weight loss / diet culture. You should have a look at Jordan Shrinks. Maybe you could do a reaction video.
Your videos are so good. They are filled with so much information and facts. I love how you dismantle diet culture and advocate for a more sustainable way of eating. Such a role model.
I found that the best way to view exercise is as a treat, I am having fun getting to the gym after a long day of working two jobs (that one of them is very costumers service) it’s my ‘me time’ a time that I only care about myself, I don’t need to talk with a soul listening to good music, I do pretty short workouts but it’s working for me (around an hour) I used to be semiprofessional athlete, I did have fun but you can’t do that and have money to live in my country, so me going to the gym for an hour makes me feel alive, i listen today to your videos and I don’t think there is something more right then “exercise because you love your body, not because you hate it”
I’m so confused about the exercise part.. although we will say ‘adapt to a 10 minute run over time’ and start to burn less calories, that 10 minute run is still more than if we weren’t to do it. And surely over time we get stronger and fitter so can run faster than before therefore we don’t really adapt to it? Also tdee is literally made up by the amount of exercise you do and people with high metabolisms are often very active right?
She explained it in the video, but to summarize for shorter exercises what ends up happening that you get tired to the point of not fidgeting as much. People naturally fidget and move around during the day (some more than others, I have ADHD so I fidget more, but many of my doctors recommend to help me keep my focus I exercise so I fidget less outside of medication and diet) so unless it's an hour+ your body will just adjust to not fidgeting as much. Along with other things she mentioned such as people having a tendency to "reward" themselves for exercising because the exercise is a "punishment". Yes, it's great to get 10 minutes, especially if you're for the most part sedentary, but if you're doing it for weight loss as she mentioned, even if you go a full hour for the 10-30% calorie burn off, it's not so much the you burn what you eat mantra. Your body is annoyingly smart sometimes and knows how to adjust for things even if those adjustments are "detrimental" to your health. EDIT: I felt detrimental is a bit strong, but more along the lines of you get disappointed in the results you were hoping to achieve due to your body adjusting to it.
I think she's just emphasizing that working out shouldn't be linked to weight loss, but more so for overall health benefits. You def adapt unless you start progressing your workout. For example, I started walking 1.5 hours a day to avoid taking the bus, and the first two months I lost like ten pounds without changing my diet. I've been walking that same amount for ten years now and I haven't had any weight loss spikes because my body adapted to it. I didn't stop walking though because I do it for mental/physical health, NOT as a tool for weight loss.
Personal trainer (kinesiologist/biologist) here. I tell my clients that it is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise. That exercise should be viewed as a reward. A celebration of what our bodies are capable of doing. It’s “You” time for you to de-stress. I have never heard of someone leaving a workout feeling more stressed out then when they walked in. While there is lots of research around exercise and weight-loss it will not be sustainable long term without proper diet. I would dove tail on that we will plateau with ANY exercise that we do without changing it up. To continue to see results through exercise, it’s important to not repeat the same exercises over and over whether that be aerobic or anaerobic training. Switch up speed, resistance, duration, intensity, every time you hit a workout 😊
I'm working on my binging (with my dr) by eating clean for 6 days and eating whatever I want to on the 7th. As well as practicing eating the things i was binging on in a portion controlled way. It's really helping my mind set.
I’m just a regular person who has no training or education in dietary/nutrition and I feel like I know so much more than anyone else just because of common sense, I know so much about diet and weight loss/gain and how it relates to food just from these videos and other videos , it’s sad that a lot of people are unaware of what they’re doing to themselves
I used to have the mentality of workout because I hate my body but after binging the avengers films during the mcu I want to workout so I can feel strong enough to be in the universe (will likely never happen but it’s fun to use it as motivation)
I remember when the whole cold makes you lose weight thing came out on tumblr and people said even being cold or taking a cold shower would burn calories. Ah. All the cold freezing showers I took.
I love the third girl! She is amazing and a lot of her videos are about how teens don’t need to be loosing weight 99% of the time and what to do instead!
I unfortunately fell into the Herbalife spiral, also military diet. I love watching your videos I’ve been watching my them religiously for the past week. It’s been helping a lot to eat the rainbow and pay attention to my relationship with food so thank you !
Me, who drinks ice cold lemon water in the mornings just because I like it, watching this with the same weight for like 6 years and having such bad adult acne I’m on doxycycline at 26.
Great as always! The only thing I want to say about people not confusing thirst and hunger- well I *can* tell when I'm thirsty and dehydrated but even knowing that I need water, sometimes when I'm in the kitchen I realise oh wait there's icecream here - lovely and yummy and cold! And then the ice cream quenches that thirst whilst giving me 2/300 extra calories that I probably didn't need!
Hearing how diet is the most important part of weight loss kills me, the only time i lost weight was when i was starving myself and I'm struggling so much right now to fight the urge to just. Stop eating. To get rid of the covid weight
It depends how hard you work out. When the gyms shut during covid lockdown, I gained a bunch of weight as I was used to doing 1.5-2 hour intense cardio and resistance training workouts 5-6 times a week at the gym, and had no space at home to do them. I don't weight myself, but none of my clothes were fitting me. I didn't adjust my usual 2000-2500 calories a day eating habits to a pretty sedentary lifestyle where my only exercise was 1 hour of walking. Now I'm worried the gyms will close again, but luckily I've moved to a larger house so have space now for home workouts. Don't stop eating, it's horrible for your health and you won't sustain any weight loss. I did it for years, and it was only when I started caring about my health and eating enough that I started loving my body.
An ice cold glass of lemon water with a light salad & a tuna or cucumber & cream cheese sandwich & a cup of sherbet for dessert sounds like my plan this summer
10.000 steps was apparently from a Japanese advertisement from the 80's. Actual research will show that 5000-6000 steps and upwards is already great. 10.000 is quite excessive and will take up a long part of your day.
Finally can start being happy and recover from my ED, exercising cuz it’s healthy not cuz u feel guilty of eating, eating cuz food is fuel and not crying after I eat.
I've lost 71lbs and didn't restrict on food, instead I've learned a lot about serving sizes. Now I'm maintaining my weight and it's much easier than I thought. I only pay attention to serving size and balance (for example if I have pasta for lunch, I have veggies for dinner and vice versa). I allow myself to eat chocolate and drink hot spicy wine now that it's christmas. My weight doesn't go higher and I'm very happy about it. ☺️
Is emotional eating actually “normal”? In my research methods of psychology class we learned that in a lot of studies, they found that “emotional eating” or “stress eating” only exists in cultures where it was heavily portrayed in media. It doesn’t exist in any other setting, or exist anywhere “naturally.” Suggesting that it is mostly taught to us or learned behavior, just from copying the social sayings basically until we really do start making it a habit. I found that interesting. So I guess I’m wondering if something is “common” does that mean it is “normal”?
I would actually love to see a video discussing emotional eat or the social factors of healthy eating? Coming from someone who grew up with a negative relationship where I was "eating my emotions" almost daily I'd love to hear how you would advise people in this situation to revert to intuitive eating in a healthy way :)
So, I actually have a question. I've been watching your vids because I've recently begun Intuitive Eating ( And i feel great it going so well!) and I'm not sure of this has been addressed, But honestly, some days I hardly feel 'hungry' at all and other days i feel 'hungry all day'. Im honoring my hunger and stickin mostly to whole foods but i wonder if this will 'balance out' and is natural or should I worry?

Yeah I cringed even more when she mentioned herbalife... ugh.
This summer I started gardening and swear I had abbs for the two weeks I was working in it and setting it up.
Thank you for the intel!

I can’t believe the whole “if you think you’re hungry, you’re probably thirsty” nonsense is still around. I remember hearing that as a kid, and even then it made absolutely no sense. Please make it stop. 😖
I know 🙁
When you think your hungry you should consider it maybe only appetite (lust) which will go away when you distract yourself (just go on a walk). Many people confused those two and eat when they are actually not hungry. And yes you can mistake thirsty for being hungry. If you were truly hungry, you might still feel a stomach pang, whereas if you were just thirsty, you'll feel satisfied after drinking something.

@@anika5094 Fair enough.
I'm glad that part was helpful
I have had the same weight for the past 6 years. Recent years I workout so much because I love it, it’s my fun activities during the week. I go 5-6 days a week. I recently got a PT and started weight lifting, still no major weight change but obviously SO much stronger than before. I don’t think I care too much about my weight anymore.
Love this.
That's great!
remember that you could be gaining muscle but losing fat and staying the same weight, don't focus too much on what the scales say! the feeling of getting stronger is so great
It's funny how average people give out advice as if dieticians, doctors, personal trainers etc didn't exist. It's also the same with skin care.
"this worked for me so it should work for everyone"
Don't we value these professions enough? We don't want to pay anyone for advice? We think everything with the human body (except the brain) is so simple and that we're all alike?
Amen
I think the problem is accessibility :( I’m sure my insurance won’t cover a consultation with a dietician. Especially after needing to call an ambulance for my husband. It was an actual emergency and our insurance still didn’t cover the ride to the hospital, so we received a lovely $3,000 bill in the mail 🥰 ‘merica! Hoping his insurance with his new job is better and I might be able to see a dietician!

As someone with adhd/autism honestly same. I struggle to tell the difference unless i feel my stomach growl or my mouth gets really dry :(

Whatever works for you, every person is different
Hi! old comment, but I had the same issue you have before I started another wrong weight loss, then well needed reversed diet...

Thank you for all your videos, learn something new every time I tune in!😊
Yes! I switched to night shift and I eat much less during the day but am ravenous during and after work and I overeat. And my sleep is all messed up.
On the list to do this topic!
Interesting

I second a video on protein powders, I just want to know if they're worth the money or not lol
yes, Abbey, please do a video on protein powders because I’ve always wondered if it’s better to just eat more meat & eggs or add powder.
On the list to cover this topic!

I think she means only 10 minutes without any other exercise is not going to make much of a difference.

Just another day,
Another meal,
And NOT a big _deal_ .
For sure!
On the list to do!
I love how positive and respective you are! You are just here to inform and help people with their health and I love it!
"A glass of wine on the weekend." I only drink on the days that have vowels in them.
Your videos are so good. They are filled with so much information and facts. I love how you dismantle diet culture and advocate for a more sustainable way of eating. Such a role model.
Thank you! I'm so glad they are helpful
I'm glad that's working for you
I’m just a regular person who has no training or education in dietary/nutrition and I feel like I know so much more than anyone else just because of common sense, I know so much about diet and weight loss/gain and how it relates to food just from these videos and other videos , it’s sad that a lot of people are unaware of what they’re doing to themselves
Agreed
I used to have the mentality of workout because I hate my body but after binging the avengers films during the mcu I want to workout so I can feel strong enough to be in the universe (will likely never happen but it’s fun to use it as motivation)
My current motivation is "can I survive a zombie apocalypse" and the answer is no so I'm working on it
I remember when the whole cold makes you lose weight thing came out on tumblr and people said even being cold or taking a cold shower would burn calories. Ah. All the cold freezing showers I took.
It may slightly help with cellulite.
I'm sorry 🙁
This unlocked a memory omg
I love the third girl! She is amazing and a lot of her videos are about how teens don’t need to be loosing weight 99% of the time and what to do instead!
😊👍
"Another day, another meal and not a big deal."
I need that... tatooed on my arm or something. It's straightforward and true.
It is very sad that I have reported some tiktoks with similar content and they never get taken down because it doesn’t explicitly promote an ED.
I admire your professionalism and authentic compassion. Thank you for being so inspiring and empowering :)
And the Oscar of the best useful and practical and effective goes to this amazing 40 minutes review. Tnsm ABBEY
Thank you!
PLEASE DO A REVIEW OF LINDA SUN what i eat ina week LYSM!
Coming soon!
Please don’t do that ❤️ You are a great person even without losing any weight!! Please talk to somebody :)
Thank you for the info
First off this video was so great and so informative and ALSO abbey YOU LOOK AMAZING I love your hair!!! Okay that’s all
Thank you! So glad it was helpful!
I would actually love to see a video discussing emotional eat or the social factors of healthy eating?
Coming from someone who grew up with a negative relationship where I was "eating my emotions" almost daily I'd love to hear how you would advise people in this situation to revert to intuitive eating in a healthy way :)
Thanks for the suggestion!
I really like drinking lemon water when I feel nauseated, I read it online that it helps with that (and so far, it has every time!)
Glad that works for you!
It works for me too!
IE is very rarely good, and you should make sure to have something for breakfast each day and it will stop you from wanting to eat the whole day
