Chris Perkins DM'd the tension between the characters perfectly, just by giving them that parallel with the ship's crew being so in sync. That was masterful.
Okay, I've been through the comments here, and it doesn't look like anyone else has pointed out Chris's line at 1:36:50 when Jared says he imagines Strix's hands being right on the wheel where Diath's are. Chris: You are together. You are one. I see you slipping in that shipping fodder, Mr. Perkins.
22:30 lmao Chris is like "Damn, he's dropping bombs right now." Paultin is now my favorite character. That line about Lawful Stupid being an alignment was too savage.
Graham Baxter Except the turtle didn't let go until he threw the bomb. Plus, maybe that's what you would do, but I doubt paultin would be a duck and initiate combat with a party member.
Michael Henry Tillman No, that's character development. Meta gaming would be doing something like making a decsion based on something outide of the game world. For example, lets say the party passes by a cave that they've been warned is extremely dangerous, and that the creatures within kill all who enter by NPCs. But the party members are all only level 2. A meta gamer might have the thought "hm, we're all such a low level, there's no way our DM would put anything too dangerous in there." And then decide his character goes in based off of that thought.
Metagaming is just gaming anyhow. E.g. in this example "level" has in-game effects, you can guess someone's "level" to a bigger or smaller extent in-game. So may as well just call it level for shorthand. Of course a DM can mess with the details to avoid the party getting too jaded by "here we go again, 57 HP and 12th level spells..."
This is at least the second time that I can remember that Diath has made a terrible snap decision, unleashed something, and killed innocents. I totally applaud Jared's roleplaying in this, but, damn, Diath.
I feel like the Waffle Crew are like scarred soldiers after a war. All they know is combat. They did a lot of fighting in Curse of Strahd. They were in the same initiative for awhile in Storm King's Thunder, trying to escape the fire giants. The Tomb of Annihilation was a different story when Miranda and the Ring of Winter showed up. There was more talking then there was fighting and because of that, they made the conflict (if that makes any sense). They had time to stop and question their friendship with one another. Did you notice the change when they first saw the storm giant? (44:40) Paultin and Strix looked in agreement and both did counter spell. Instead of fighting, they fought for the same goal. The Waffle Crew need to have a similar goal or they will start questioning their differences more.
Geez, yes. It's like four flavors of trauma-induced depression, pick your favorite. I'm glad that someone also noticed that Evelyn's first response to crisis seems to have defaulted to "How can I sacrifice myself to make this go away?"
Thank you Paultin, the party needed that. Everyone needed to be reminded that above all their powers and skills, they are still people, they still make mistakes, and you shouldn't try to pull hero shit. No matter what, they have each other and they need each other, Evelyn shouldn't be try to do the hero shit anymore.
Then she should lose her paladin status. She totally broke her oaths, not for the first time but certainly by the most massive amount, by not only allowing the tragedy of the previous episode but by not acting this time. Totally disappointed in the players this episode.
+SquiffleNoses I sort of disagree on that. For once, Paultin's more pragmatic outlook on things actually makes sense. He had things under control, he had a solution that required him only to give up an item that belonged to him, but Evelyn and Diath wanted their "hero moments." They wanted to be the ones to solve the problem despite it already being solved, and Paultin is correct in that their completely reckless solutions to problems is nothing but trouble, which is weird to hear from someone that's Chaotic Neutral. I think someone really needed to point out that this party is often pure chaos. They don't plan things out, they don't formulate strategies, and they don't have any tactics ready for when things go awry, and that's what Paultin is getting frustrated about. They just charge into every situation and try to adapt as it goes, and that causes tons of problems. Look at it from the outside - The party is a mess. They're all level...what, 11 now? 12? Yet they don't even have enough coin to buy a single 500gp diamond, most of them have died multiple times in situations that were easily avoidable, and they've thrown away multiple magical items. Worse yet, they're constantly killing off bystanders by the dozens because of complete CARELESSNESS.
The division between the party is getting rough. I didn't think it could get worse than Winter Paultin fiasco but this, this is a whole new level of discord.
Who says they killed the people.. Remember, There were assassins sitting pretty with the money Evelen gave them.. And that turtle could be alive.. Horribly horribly disfigured.. But alive XD
You know, I remember seeing a comment a few episodes ago that was like "Wow I'm so happy Diath made it through a whole season without mass murdered a bunch of innocents" Cut to 3 episodes into the new season
If i were in the WC i’d recommend: - being tied by torso/waste, in case needing to spellcast (or scratch an itch idk) - being all tied to the center mast -Paultin cast a clear Hut on said mast so that if the ship capsizes we would all be air tight, able to get free and either continue to wait the storm immobile underwater or escape with magic
I want to give Nate a hug so bad! He looks so crestfallen and hopeless over what has happened! Diath and Strix REALLY flubbed this one (like, the worst flub since Ironslag) and I just don't see them the same way anymore. Too much has happened directly caused by their actions that I can understand why Paultin says what he says. I'm not saying Paultin is blameless but if they had just listened to him then maybe Port Nayanzaru wouldn't be a devastated mess right now.
I love missing an episode or 2 of DCA and then listening to the recap. For half of Chult, we were left on the edge wondering when that bomb's gonna pay off, teased in the middle of the adventure, then I hear that off-handed "So yeah, Evil Paultin was dealt with by blowing him up with a thermo-nuclear bomb" and I'm like "God dammit, Waffle-Crew! You lovable screw-ups."
This episode was entertaining but a big hot mess, if the waffle crew were sub-optimal before they were even worse in this episode. At least Chris Perkins admits this was not supposed to happen.
I don't think I would ever complain about a character in the comments but I did used to get a little annoyed at paultin. I've been very impressed with his development ever since the ring incident
This adventure uniquely relates to many sadnesses. I like how the waffle crew is discovering great internal power and trying to interface themselves with the greater outside world. Strix pointedly does not aquire monetary wealth which is sometimes expected from the urban world. Diath needs monetary wealth in order to make his decisions more easily and with more acceptance from the outside world. That, in addition to inadequate words for celestial keys and their importance creates a perfect storm for freezing up in. I relate, I will be taking notes on how you deal with the situation and learn from the results.
I imagine it's largely because Ac. Inc. is a joint PA/WotC venture, while Force Grey and DCA are completely under WotC control. I imagine licensing can sticky for joint ventures.
Wow this season being left up to character decisions revealed that these characters are wildly disfunctional it seems the one thing that kept the party together was Chris’ constant assaults
They're tethered to the ships, not bound by the hands and feet. I thought someone would need to have their ability to move their hands to meet somatic requirments, so i don't get why they can't cast Counterspell. It's not like they have to do an elaborated dance over a 40 ft space to cast a spell.
the way Chris was describing it, it sounds like the giants were too far away for counterspell anyways. The reason he was not letting them do it in their ropes was because he wanted them to make the fateful choice to become untied to cast anything, which would show them their error in wanting to cast the spells before doing an arcana check on the spells the giants were casting.
Also, dimension door wouldn't just teleport you.. It opens a doorway that you must pass through in order to use... Many rules are flipped around but I love Chris's DM style. ×D
I`ve watched Chris DM from the very beginnings, and have (admired and learned) from watching and listening to him and adding a whole bunch of new DM-man-ship to my own skills because of it.... but oh man, this episode is without the most masterful display of a game session I have ever seen him perform, just WOW.Paultin and Evelyn.... I`m almost speechless. What AMAZING role playing, drama, tension, and simply sublime interaction and immersion. THIS is what D&D is all about. This is my all time favourite episode. How Chris turned blunder after blunder into an amazing almost on the fly session: but how you guys as players handled it, left me breathless and wanting more. The modal and ethical dilemma and responsibility for your actions was touching, and deeply moving.I`m so glad I took time to download and keep every single episode. I`m up to this one (episode 93) so far, and can`t wait see the whole thing unfold.
Why does Chris argue that the party is tied up too much to use somatic components only after the entire party enters the storm? :( I wish they'd asked if turning the ship back would've avoided the storm. ;)
How the heck are they sailing a ship that was chomped on by a dragon turtle? "It's not our fault!" - so funny! "We aren't responsible for wiping out the city..." :)
That cheeky juxaposition of the well-oiled machine that is the crew of the Brazen Pegasus against the Wafflecrew was just literally perfect. pacha_face_singinghills.gif
Never have I loved and appreciated Paultin more. Blessed voice of REASON!
Chris Perkins DM'd the tension between the characters perfectly, just by giving them that parallel with the ship's crew being so in sync. That was masterful.
Paultin BEST libe Ever: " stop thinking about yourself, starting thinking about yourself" love it
"More like port Bye-anzaru"
Someone give that man a raise
Okay, I've been through the comments here, and it doesn't look like anyone else has pointed out Chris's line at 1:36:50 when Jared says he imagines Strix's hands being right on the wheel where Diath's are.
Chris: You are together. You are one.
I see you slipping in that shipping fodder, Mr. Perkins.
oof
With all this heavy stuff... man, remember the good times when they thought Evelyn ate a baby? That was so much more upbeat. Good times.
22:30 lmao Chris is like "Damn, he's dropping bombs right now."
Paultin is now my favorite character. That line about Lawful Stupid being an alignment was too savage.
Damn paultin. Dropping reality bombs in the wake of the force bomb
Graham Baxter to be fair killing the dragon is better in the long run
Graham Baxter Except the turtle didn't let go until he threw the bomb. Plus, maybe that's what you would do, but I doubt paultin would be a duck and initiate combat with a party member.
Nota Normalweeb that dragon turtle guard the port and city from worse threats. Maurauders and monsters alike.

Not gonna spoil or anything, but god DAMN Nate
Paultin: "Evelyn, *stop dying!* "
Chris Perkins: "Hold my d20"
This is at least the second time that I can remember that Diath has made a terrible snap decision, unleashed something, and killed innocents. I totally applaud Jared's roleplaying in this, but, damn, Diath.
This time though he shares credit with Strix.
I feel like the Waffle Crew are like scarred soldiers after a war. All they know is combat. They did a lot of fighting in Curse of Strahd. Paultin really let it out today- I think that needed to be said, in one way or another
I love the look on Nate's face when Anna said 'water sports'
Damn Paultin is just taking out receipts and spilling tea everywhere, savage
Thank you Paultin, the party needed that. Everyone needed to be reminded that above all their powers and skills, they are still people, they still make mistakes, and you shouldn't try to pull hero shit. Hero feces is the reason many people play this game. Shit.
+SquiffleNoses I sort of disagree on that. For once, Paultin's more pragmatic outlook on things actually makes sense. @SquiffleNoses I just think you don't like nate.
Evelyn crying about his mandolin while still carrying two magical weapons feels a bit hollow
"Could you play them a song Paultin?"
I don't know Strix, maybe if he had a mandolin
Damn Paultin. Just, damn. During that entire time/rp moment after the devastation in Port Nyanzaru you could feel the drama and tension.
23:50 this is the fifth time you have asked paultin to change who he is
The division between the party is getting rough. I didn't think it could get worse than Winter Paultin fiasco but this, this is a whole new level of discord.
paultin really has become my favourite character!!!!!
Almost cried out of happiness part when Perkins brought up that "throwaway line" when all hope seemed lost. Such an amazing moment.
I do love how Chris mentioned that going on around them at 30:04, and the lampshade hanging the party does right afterwards.
Everyone's screaming about everything that happened meanwhile I'm here, 6 months late, freaking out over Nate's cat in the background 😆 priorities.
Paultin over here steering the feels train this ep, gosh dang
Every time Paulton and Evelyn have a heart to heart I cry
How much xp do they get for killing an entire city?
And a huge turtle dragon.
Who says they killed the people..
Remember, There were assassins sitting pretty with the money Evelen gave them..
And that turtle could be alive..
Horribly horribly disfigured.. But alive XD
Danny Silva I'm 75% sure Chris uses milestone
Idk this is one hell of a milestone....
Danny Silva
all of it.
"There is meat falling from the sky." I am laughing waaaaay to hard right now.
CAAAAaaaarrlll WHAT DID YOU DO?!?
Who ever types those comments at the bottom of the screen, good job whoever’s that is because throughout this series
The Ender of Worlds TEW He has a Twitter! mobile.twitter.com/PelhamGreene
You know, I remember seeing a comment a few episodes ago that was like "Wow I'm so happy Diath made it through a whole season without mass murdered a bunch of innocents"
Cut to 3 episodes into the new season
1:12:57 oml Nate has a hairless cat 😍 it's so freaking cute ahhh
Strix, last episode: "DON'T HEAL ME, IT'S FINE, IT'S FINE"
Strix, 38:20 "NOBODY HEALED ME"
If i were in the WC i’d recommend:
- being tied by torso/waste, in case needing to spellcast (or scratch an itch idk)
- being all tied to the center mast
-Paultin cast a clear Hut on said mast so that if the ship capsizes we would all be air tight, able to get free and either continue to wait the storm immobile underwater or escape with magic
Best line ever! "Great, I've got 8 hours to figure this out..."
*Evelyn bursts out of ropes*
*popeye the sailorman plays in the background*
I want to give Nate a hug so bad! He looks so crestfallen and hopeless over what has happened!

At least Strix is clean now!
mr_werty 2 You ever been in the ocean? She’s if not more dirty, at least very salty.
And don't forget rat poop from her rats.
Honestly diaths key ring is the greatest Mcguffin since the one ring to rule them all.
Alternative titles: The crew suffers from PTSD, two ships almost sink, and Evelyn kisses a mermaid.
If Evelyn got a new body...
Does that mean she's a born again virgin! :0
"Evelyn continues her streak of being very gay every time a beautiful woman looks at her"
@@nicholasepsilon3534 bold of you to assume she wasnt a virgin before she lost her body. ;P
@IBZD Arts I mean, be realistic.
A pretty pure girl like that definitely did something in her past.
Possible with a girl. 🤭😅
@@nicholasepsilon3534 I mean, evelyn seems like the type to wait until marriage.
Imagine, the city would have been just fine if Evelyn had just left that stupid mandolin alone.
Jared's face when everyone goes over board except him 😂😅

Evelyn's magical adventure in the middle of all this shit XD
Is it just me or did anyone else see Nate's new cat

you could taste the salt rolling off of Nate holy shit

CAN I ACTUAL-HAND HER MOUTH?

15:14 that Odyssey reference though
"Tune in next week for a good long talk on a boat!" Oh god the series is going to turn into Berserk.
This episode was entertaining but a big hot mess, if the waffle crew were sub-optimal before they were even worse in this episode.

Hmm... a mermaid paladin... I wonder how many undersea races could be converted to Player Characters?
This Entire Episode is just the Epitome of Irony!
*"Welcome to chult! Oh you want to leave? No no no no no"*
At least no one got amnesia from going Overboard...
I get it 😎
was not expecting that reference but a damn good one 😎
Remember when half the comments were paultin bashing?
I used to be one of those people. For a while now, I've been totally impressed with Nate.
I don't think I would ever complain about a character in the comments but I did used to get a little annoyed at paultin. I've been very impressed with his development ever since the ring incident
Stop fighting! Stop fighting! Can't you see you're tearing us all apart!
20:01 -- It scares me when Perkins giggles like that...
This the second time Daith has caused mass destruction.
"can't pull into harbor if there isn't a harbor" more like "can't pull into harbor city if there isn't a city".
an why do you shakle the arms in a storm? Did they fear Sirens in the Storm you can't hear through?
that damage is that a lvl 9 call lightning?

Not sure if Paultin or Nate is talking...
Anyone else think the new intro sounds similar to cowboy bebop
I thought the exact same thing after I listened to the first few seconds of it

I presume Omin is still negotiating terms and brand standards.
Just wanna sa I LOVE THE IMAGE OF WAFFLES ON A BOAT. IS SO CUUUITE

Ethan Kegley that makes sense, he's in charge of the game, so its his say. It just sounded off to me.
I felt the same way.

Lots of Dragon Turtle XP!
Lol. All this because the casters countered two control weather spells. I love it when things go awry :p
Everyone is willing to polymorph until there’s a dragon’s horde waiting and no one wants to go get it....
Oh wow! Chris Perkins asking if you have any preferences in being tied down. HAHA!

I wish they'd asked if turning the ship back would've avoided the storm. ;)
Dimension door just creates a door, you still have to be able to step through it.
Jessica Slater It doesn’t. It just teleports you anywhere you want within 500 ft. What you’re thinking of is probably Arcane Gate.
LAWFUL STUPID!¬!!!! ROFL
did you see Perkin's face right after it was said. priceless.

So, yeah. Adventurers learn that their actions have consequences sometimes.
