As someone who lives in Joliet. The correctional center is no joke to try and get into. It’s heavily watched with people doing constant check ups. And if you’re caught, consequences are VERY bad
Impossible to get in there I’ve tried a couple times
Local law enforcement?
There’s a frisbee golf putting league that plays there during the winter 😎
I am try

Cairo, Illinois is pronounced CARE-OH (some people erroneously believe that it's pronounced KAY-RO). I personally know Joe Crain who was born in Cairo and was once the weatherman on Channel 20 in Springfield. Ken Norman's former mansion was torn down in 2022.
I have a lightbulb from one of the machines in the GEM theater! Shoulda just included the whole town of Cairo its abandoned af
Love your work! Thanks for sharing.
You need to turn down the background noise. It makes it difficult to hear you.
Abandoned places in Illinois pt.2 plz and thx
$231,000 was allocated to repair the Gem Theater in Cairo. Never used. Where did the $ go?
I worked at the Rock St. Barber Colman/Reed-Chatwood building from 1980-1998. The factory closed in bankruptcy in 1998, Maurey Springer owned the company until 1996, then an investment firm from Holland bought it with Hanjo Roosen running the buisiness. They closed our office in Munich Germany and reopened it in Holland. We would build the machines in Rockford, the payments would go to Holland, thus our company went bankrupt. I felt bad for those in their late 50's early 60's that lost their jobs. I was in my late 30's and was able to rebound.
There's abandoned parts of a military camp outside of Table Grove IL. Camp Ellis
My Grandma and Grandpa worked at Barbara Coleman. And Great Grandma and Uncle and Aunt before it closed and moved. Then a few more family members worked at the other one for many many years. Until they all retired.
Back in the 90's we use to explore and old abandoned Monastery by Peasbody's tomb in Oakbrook.
Is it still there
Great video and Chanute AFB, Rantoul IL would be of potential interest.
Visit Rantoul Illinois they have a old abandoned military base and hospital
Illinois and Chicago native here. It's a very interesting and lots of historical places too.
So Chicago isn't part of Illinois anymore?
@@arlenedavis5770depends where you live since Chicagoland expands into Indiana and Kenosha, Wisconsin
@@Anonymouslikemydad Stop doing drugs !
@@Anonymouslikemydad Not really.
The Masonic Temple in Aurora burned a couple of years ago and the remaining ruins were demolished.
Fr
Benn to the Joliet corrections center they use it occasionally for airsoft and paintball events super fun but just creepy abandoned vibes
This was great. And I actually saw the southern medical center during a trip to Arkansas/Missouri last year. I chose to go see Cairo in the way, both because I could see the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers (which I had not witnessed before), and I wanted to see if Cairo was really as bad as I've read about. Needless to say, it was pretty bad. Couldn't believe they still had significant amounts of businesses much less manufacturing operations there. I got a few pictures of the outside of the facility as well.
Part two!!!
You can not see the Mississippi river from Joliet. The Des Plaines river runs through Joliet, further to the west would be the Fox River. You have to get to the other side of the state to be any where near the Mississippi. The east doors of the prison were opened for the beginning of The Blues Brothers, that was it. It is about 12 seconds of the movie.
Watching y’all climb that tower in Harvey makes me light headed
there is this old abandoned church I think. here in Illinois, it's in a small village called Muddy I do not know too much about it but I've been a couple of times and it is pretty cool
Edit: I was wrong it is a coal mine but it is still pretty cool but if it is a coal mine now I wanna know why I found a cross in there💀
What’s the address
Ken Mormans mansion was demolished a few weeks ago.
Sad
Would love to see a video on New Hampshire
Can you re release this video without the background noise.
My Grandparents were both raised in Harvey in the 1910 era!
1:11 sounds about right. Got the money and didn’t do it
good video
Just a suggestion... less music and more of your voice.
A separation of each location would clarify the next transition instead of melding them into each other. Otherwise it was quite enjoyable.
You didn't even mention Zenith or Pillsbury Mills and what about Singer?
Like for Part 2!
@@XPLRWorldwell that was a lie
@@vladimirgluten781why are there always smartasses like you in the comment sections?
Crazy I shot a music video in the #1 abandoned house before it got torn down
I’ve been inside the barber Coleman factory. I got lost for 5 hours at night, it was kind of like a nightmare. Man! I wanna go back but not alone this time, no one wants to go tho 😔
@Cypher Interested, I dont know anyone to explore with
Have you been in/at the damen grain silos? pretty well known but very cool nonetheless. I def wanna revisit, we should get in touch
@@MZstudios2 // I’m totally cool with that !
@@cypher6258 Do you have an email, social or kik (lol, kik) I can msg you on? We can exchange numbers after!! Since, I'm not seeing the option to PM you on YT
Is it still there to this day ?
Now we have a disc golf course at joliet corrections called inPARcerated
Need to do one about Pennsylvania
Ha! I live in Rockford. Lots of abandoned places here 😉
That’s not a lie
No shortage of trash either smh
fuck allied universal
Sign up for tour of Joliet it's interesting.
Barber Colman in Rockford is currently on track to be demolished. An over quarter billion project is currently in the works to revitalize the area.
There is one more place in Joliet it’s by the old prison right next to some train tracks
joliet ironworks it’s actually so cool there
Both Harvey and Cairo are placed to avoid. Homewood on the other hand is the high rent district!
Do you know how I know that you've never spent any time in Southern Illinois?
That last one been destroyed. Just happy i went before that happen
Glad I went to the NBA mansion before everyone found out about it
same
I been inside it too. It was a wreck!
pt 2
Damen silo I grew up around there sweet
I used to go into it. I loved going there and exploring. Underground was the creepiest lol.
How much security does it have?
I LOVE THE GEM THEATRE. THE CITY OF CAIRO IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES TO EXPLORE. I HAVE A VIDEO OF IT ON MY CHANNEL AS WELL.
The Ken Norman house was not in Homewood and it's been torn down.
I believe the damen silos where in the end of Transformers 5
Why the noise on the soundtrack?
Love the video being originally from Southern Illinois... My birthplace and hometown is Cairo Illinois ( born at Southern medical center) but. It is pronounced Kayrow.. lol. Not pronounced like the city in Egypt
Correct pronunciation is CARE-OH.
@@glenbard657 I've heard it both ways my entire life. Guess just depends on deep the accent is. Lol
My dad was in Joliet lol
I'm a Chicagoan...I'd be careful in the abandoned places in or close to the city. You never know WHO is in there.
My grandfather is buried in St. Boniface Cemetary.
JAAP Elwood IL
Kay-Roe, Illinois.
I couldn't get thru it. That pulsing background noise was too distracting. Its not music. Just noise. Was giving me a headache.
LOL you left out East St. Louis. But I don't blame you either its bad even in the day.
I was born and raised there. So many beautiful but now blighted and dilapidated buildings there that are too numerous to count. I would love to have seen the place in its glory.
my family was from there in the 40s and 50s when it was voted one of the most beautiful cities in America. @@dufusbug
Barbara Coleman in Rkfd is being redeveloped
How in the world do you do a video like this, and not include the abandoned Ovaltine factory in Villa Park?
Trespassing will not get you arrested in Illinois after January 1
Maybe lower noise in the background, I can't understand the words...it's an interesting story...
Nokia plant in Naperville.
Hanover Park
Cairo is pronounced CARE-O…….. but good video
Tell that to the Egyptians lol
i was born in saint marys hospital
#3 burned down and is no more
Hard to hear the commentator because of the loud music.
I wonder what would happen if all these buildings and homes were turned into homeless shelters
You would be sued for having people in unsafe buildings 😅 lead and asbestos its cheaper to build new
Good video, I might recommend speaking more slowly on the narration and leaving a few seconds without talking between each location.
It'd be cool to see old photos of these places in their prime before they were abandoned
For the record it's pronounced "Arch Dye-o-seas"
K row not ky row
Temple gone was destroyed in an arson fire
Because we have insane taxes.
Lmao no one mentioned one of the most famous abandoned places in Illinois
Governor pritzkers house of salad?
Nice job but please speak more slowly.
You can slow it down with the playback contol. That's what I did. This guy still doesn't not have a commanding voice.
So much decay and sadness in the state of Illinois, it's what happens when you have criminals running the place.
Exactly
Politicians Stole all the wealth.
I can't understand half of what this guy is saying.
You should learn the proper pronunciation of the cities you feature. Sounds funny
The pronunciation of "Cairo" in Illinois is not pronounced like the city in Egypt. The Cairo in Illinois is pronounced as Kay Row.
speech therapy much?
Please learn the correct pronunciation of the towns.
Boooooooooo
Background music was too loud and distracting. Made it hard to focus on what the narrator was trying to say. Also, don’t talk for fast. Take a breath so all the words don’t run into one another.
Hard to focus? You have much to learn and then some.
The narrator needs to practice ... narrating. Seriously, slow down your mouth, enunciate, and try to be less monotonous. It helps greatly if you stand up when you speak.
He may just have a speech defect. He should have someone else do the narration after his research.
I felt the need to give this video a thumbs down simply because of the "New age" music that was played thru out your video that it was hard to understand what was said. Now, learn from that.
I did time in Joliet and you couldn't pay me to go back there
It's pronounced Cay-ro.
It's pronounced KAY-ro. Not like the city in Egypt.
