Inside Abandoned Chicago Police Department

- Designed by local Chicago architect Paul Gerhardt in a somewhat brutalist stone-block style and constructed for just a mere $265,000, the two-story Chicago police departments Precinct, was built in what was then a dense, aged city neighborhood on Chicago’s infamous Southside.
When it officially opened April 1, 1952, the Indiana limestone-clad building featured a homicide division and detective offices, but most notably was the cell block. In later years, the precinct became the main police station to infiltrate and tackle Chicago’s notorious gangs throughout the south side. This precinct became known for being as tough as the gangsters and criminals that were jailed inside.
But after nearly 60 years in the law-and-order business, the police station was finally closed in 2012.
In 2012, when then Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that the always cash-strapped Chicago police department would be closing the cities precinct, it was initially met with some resistance.
The mayor quieted some of the harsh criticism by claiming that closing the precinct would save the City of Chicago, the Chicago Police Department, and the taxpayers several million dollars a year. Additionally, the closure would allow more police to be on the streets patrolling the most crime-ridden neighborhoods around the city.
Although the decision to close the police station did save Chicago money, unfortunately the crime rate skyrocketed within just a year of the precinct closing, resulting in more questions than answers.
As you can see from the video, this Chicago abandoned police station was a very interesting explore. The abandoned police station was loaded with criminals’ files, mugshots, crime reports, booking information, fingerprinting machine, and even most wanted posters. Finding an abandoned police station with so much stuff left inside is pretty rare to come across, so we wanted to make a video to show you all just how crazy this explore was. Love how an electric company will shut off your power for missing a payment or two. Yet us tax payers are paying for the power in this and who knows how many other abandon buildings.

They call and say my bill is past due before the due date even arrives. The powers been on here for over 10 years. Maybe the police department is still paying the electric bill but i doubt it.
I worked for a telephone company and some of our equipment was in basements of businesses and hospitals. The power had to be left on to keep the telecommunication equipment running.
I’m genuinely surprised this building isn’t occupied by homeless people.
@@connieo3618 serious question I’m ignorant on the subject. But if it’s empty and abandoned why would the comm equipment need to be running? Would it destroy your comm equipment? Not being a smarty pants I just want to know.

I came across this by accident, a few of those members are well known from the chicago rap scene and their crimes there are full videos about some of them, mainly Rock Head, Rose and Big A. Those were 3 of the photos hanging up.

This is a station that was at least mostly cleaned out.
There have been explorers finding full evidence lockers.

You ever hear about lost evidence on cold cases? Wonder how something like that happens? Well we just saw one example. Incredible that professionals would leave a mess like this. Just lock up and leave. Chicago tax payers footing the power bill also. Wow. Just wow.
How many of the gang members in the mugshots are dead now or rotting in a cell?
I didn't do too much research on each of them but I think at the time we edited this video there was 4-5 of them that were dead.
I wonder how many homeless stay in there to keep warm or cool. Is the water still on
No the water doesn't run anymore. The police keep this police pretty locked down. I been there 4 different times and there wasn't any homeless staying there.
