I brought home "In Search of the Lost Chord" . My mother had to listen to it, thinking it's drug music. Came home from school the next day, she had purchased Threshold of a Dream and to our Children's children ❤️
I know right 🥰🙋🏼♀️☮moodies was all about love brah😁 Love and flying free in your mind. Peaceful and Mindful music. Mindfulness before it became a thing donchakno 🌻🐝🌻🌺💫💞💫🌺💞💫💞💫🌺🌺🌺💞💫💞💫💞🌺🐈🌺
Just beautiful. The classiest band ever!!!! They put love in their music. They are by far the best band EVER!!! They sound so good... Have all their cd's.. They make my day, by just listening to them. There's beauty, in every song they sing... Thank You for such beauty!!!! From The Motor City!!! Keep playing, we all will be here listening..🥀🥀🥀🥀....💙💙💙💙....
I get what you are saying, but at least the Moodies played all their albums live and near perfect. the beatles were so ambitious in the studio, they could never pull that sound off live unless they had a 10 piece band . Floyd was amazing on record, but their live recordings up until the Wall couldn't compare with the studio recordings either. but the beatles didn't even try to pull off the studio stuff live ( save for the Let it Be stuff, which was very streamlined and basic compared to the seminal beatles catalog) .. I think the Moodies were at least the most well rounded of all the top 60/70s pysch/prog british groups... it terms of songwriting/ studio production / and live ability.
"Todays heaven sent, and youre feeling content cause youve worked all week long.Still its quite sad ,tomorrows so bad,I dont feel so strong".sums up the way I feel every Sunday evening.
Extraordinarily haunting sound put to simplistic lyrics...reminds me of monks chanting in the Middle Ages...I grew up with Moody Blues and had the privilege of seeing them live in early 1970's...amazing talent. Their sound filled any arena...regardless of the size.
such an amazing song I am 55 and was introduced to moody blues by my boss chef in 70s on the threshold of a dream love Moody's that LP and this fantastic song love it
I absolutely love this song!....listened to it in college....made me relax so much....nice to see Pinder having so much fun with the other mates..and then when I got out in the working world....Ray sings so beautifully and they sound like a choir in the background at times....so tasty a cut....thanks so much for this...made my day...going to see them today with my 16 year old daughter...pass on the music torch....Chris
of course they knew it! Justin Hayward didn't smile at all during the 60s and 70s and he giggles at Ray when he "plays" the flute. They are having such fun! I wish i was there, what a blast from the past! lol!
@DECEMBERSCHILD12172 The last phrase to the song is "Thats' how your life goes by, UNTIL the day you die. (1969) Big Spring. Betty S. (sold me the album) worked in a record shop in a one-horse town in TX. Watch the opening scene from Midnight Cowboy. I was there when it was being filmed. I still have the original album with the original lyrics. This is/was one great group. Hope this clears things up.
@bluroses28711 We were so lucky to grow up with them.... 55 here and still hopelessly in love with these guys. Even named one of my sons Justin after Hayward! Shine on
Yea, I pointed that out on some of the other songs and I got hammered alot, but I stood my ground. I just pointed out the simple things like the guitars not hooked up to the amps as well as a few others.
@spacepatrolman Ermmm...did you mean this for me? I can't find any comment of mine mentioning issues with Hammonds, so I have to ask. BTW, I had a B2 in 1975 and am quite aware of the difference between tone-wheel organs and synthesizers, but thanks for posting :)
Yes, that's an impressive list! Thanks, tomorrowneverknows76. I've checked online for information on mellotrons, and found a crystal (transparent) one which was very cool. I'll check out and compare the Hammond B3 and the C3. I love Procol Harum's Matthew Fisher almost as much as Mike Pinder but don't know what kind of organ he played. Now I'm curious ;-)
twinklebear22: I'm a straight guy, but the man is awesome...further, it seems quite clear that the older he gets, the better he gets....there is a major message here!
My guess is that most of the music that we hear isn't live. People have said that there are no cords from the electric bass & guitar; that we hear mellotron yet Pinder's playing a Hammond B3. (Mellotron "violins" are heard on Candle of Life.) Ray's clearly not playing the harmonica live here. They may have been playing some parts over the backing track. They're always a great live band. I saw them in the 60s, 70s, & 90s. I love the DVD and treasure Hayward's gorgeous live vocals.
Thought that this was lip sync..confirmed when around 2 minute mark Ray took his mouth of the harp and looked to his left and the harp was still playing. Anyway always loved the Moodies
my mom's a huge MB fan, and she used to play this song when i was a kid. i like it now, but when i was little it freaked me out. to me the chorus sounded like it was sung by a bunch of scary pirates with scary parrots on their shoulders rolling their scary reptilian eyes. i still get that image in my head when i hear this song, but like i said, i like the song now.
I have always loved the Moody Blues. Too bad this isn't a live recording. If you listen and watch very closely, you would realize that the sound track is the original studio recording.
Yeah, this is definitely them miming to the recordings.. no guitar leads, no mics on the drums and they're singing about a foot away from the microphones. Although on on, possibly two of the songs (of this one hour show) Justin is definitely singing live over a recorded backing track, the same way they used to do it on Top Of The Pops for years. (^_^)
@spacepatrolman I don't mean to be dense, but what you just posted supports my original point that a Hammond organ was often rented at the last minute because of Pinder's 'tron breaking down. This video was likely one of those times when the Hammond filled in. A pity for those at this show as they were deprived of the Mellotron.
Yeah I remember when this came out, I got the Dvd, I saw a blurb that mentioned that mike pinder mentioned why that was done. Half the songs are the live sound and held are, by some odd reason, dubbed. Moody blues fans can tell which is which.
I do wonder what would have been the reason for doing that....seems really dumb. And then to try to bill it as a live performance? Talk about misrepresentation....
Ray was not trying to fake the harmonica.. the studio version was overdubbed to the video. The studio audience heard the live harmonice 'cause the mics were live.
@timbongo1 Yeah, I noticed that, too. God I miss that Record (whatever happened to it, I have no idear...I haven't seen it since approx. 1992-ish or so.!
@audiomez Hi, audiomez. I didn't see this until now (if you click "reply" to the right of a comment, that person gets a notice from YT). I believe Pinder actually was a tech himself. Not familiar with the two 'trons in a C3 cabinet, but, knowing how 'trons are configured and knowing how the C3 is configured, I can't imagine how that would be possible, but I'll look into it, thanks! I assume, since you referred to the two 'trons you have as "conversation pieces", that they no longer function?
Yeah Garrytunes.. so it appears, but run the engineers out of town on a wire for overdubbing the studio version after the concert. The band sang into live mics to pre-recorded studio instrumental tracks... please check out "Never comes the Day", and "Are you sitting comfortably" and a few others from this concert which were not overdubbed. This band communicates universal messages so beautiful that even a lip sync should not detract us from that!
The songs that are not lip synched on the Paris 1970 show include, in my opinion, Never Comes the Day, Tuesday Afternoon, Question, and Are You Sitting Comfortably. Justin Hayward's vocals on those are live. Sadly, most of the others are being lip synched to the studio versions. Gypsy, Candle of Life, Lazy Day, Lovely to See You, and Tortoise and the Hare sound exactly like the studio versions because they are the studio versions.
further to my comment about them lip syncing, i have now been informed that they were singing live to a backing track. i wish i could have been there, it looked a great gig.
Being a keyboard player who owned a mellotron, I couldn't help but notice Pinder playng a Hammond organ instead. The mellotron was a mechanical nightmare and i understand that many live shows involved a last-minute organ rental as the 'tron died on the road. Sure enough, the dubbed the 'tron over the organ.
captainsoul, and everybody please forgive me, to CREDIT of the band! We hear the album version, but this is NOT a lip sync. EXPLANATION: at real time, 1970, they sang in live mics, evidenced by some of the other clips in this venue ie: Are you sitting comfortably, Never comes the day" are different vocally than the album version. The instrumental track was the studio recording THIS CLIP: the production crew for some reason overdubbed the album version after the show, and it's all in sync
1969. Big Spring. I was serving Sam in his efforts of domination and control. All to the benefit of...well some of your remember..who. Anyway. The M. B.'s were my staple diet of music to keep me grounded. Oh dog feces (I probably can not say shit on RUclips) this is a great song.
Where are all the songs from "Threshold of a Dream?" That and "In Search of the Lost Chord" were my preferred favorites by them. "I think - therefore I am, I think." "Of course you are my bright little star. I am miles of files, files of your forefather's fruit, and now to suit our great computer, you are magnetic ink!" "I'm more than that. At least, I think I must be." "There you go man. Keep as cool as you can. Face the trials with smiles. It riles them to believe that you perceive the web tha
This song was clearly dubbed. Justin is playing an electric guitar, but there is only an acustic guitar in the song. Also, Ray pulls his mouth away from the harmonica while the hamonica solo is still playing? Why would they be dubbing in front of a live audience?
Who could sing about Sunday dinner and be a hit. Love it

RIP Ray Thomas. Superb musician and singer.
Harmonize so well. This song takes me to a wonderful place where there is no pain,no strife, only an awesome peace within.
Nothin better than the worlds smallest symphony orchestra"The Moody Blues"from great music to extraordinary album covers. The Moodies are the BEST!!!
I miss album covers.
I so much enjoyed looking at them and studying them.

i was there in paris. now i,m 55 years. But i feel the music now.
its great! and lovely
greats from the dutch
If it wasn't for the Beatles, the Moody Blues would be the greatest band ever.
For me the Moody Blues are the best with the Beatles 2nd
I get what you are saying, but at least the Moodies played all their albums live and near perfect. the beatles were so ambitious in the studio, they could never pull that sound off live unless they had a 10 piece band . 46 years ago. I remember walking into my dorm and hearing Ride My Seesaw for the first time. Thought I'd died and gone to heaven.
That song was my introduction to the music of the Moody Blues.
I ended up buying all of their albums.
OH, how I love The Moody Blues!
"Todays heaven sent, and youre feeling content cause youve worked all week long.Still its quite sad ,tomorrows so bad,I dont feel so strong".sums up the way I feel every Sunday evening.
Saw the Moody Blues live in Detroit about 15 yrs ago. Would have loved to see them in this venue at this time however!!!!!
Perfect song for a Sunday dinner. Love the baritone sounds making you feel full. Just wonderful.
Extraordinarily haunting sound put to simplistic lyrics...reminds me of monks chanting in the Middle Ages...I grew up with Moody Blues and had the privilege of seeing them live in early 1970's...amazing talent. Their sound filled any arena...regardless of the size.
Very English composition; well done Mates!
Lazy days. Yes
The Moody Blues are f*cking amazing. I LOVE THEM!
This takes me back to such a Lazy Day, a Sunday afternoon, roast dinner, The Big Match, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), etc.
Heavy duty tune. Incredible harmonies! It's not what you think. Stuff your face on Sunday afternoon and watch your life go by. Moodies are the best!
I have this DVD. Always cracks me up to watch John Lodges face.He can't stop grinning. He looks a little bit like Tim Robbins. Great post.
Probably grinning because he knows the harmonica is not being played live.
@@im1who84u I saw that too! Ray was hamming it up! The Sweet used to do that too!
im 38..thank god i had parents with good taste in music...threshold of a dream is still in my top 10 of all time...
A harmonica that plays itself LOL!! I have the DVD version of this whole concert with a personal autograph from Mike Pinder "To a Melancholy Fan".
Self-propelled harp, I noticed it as well.
Lucky you!
such an amazing song I am 55 and was introduced to moody blues by my boss chef in 70s on the threshold of a dream love Moody's that LP and this fantastic song love it
I absolutely love this song!....listened to it in college....made me relax so much....nice to see Pinder having so much fun with the other mates..and then when I got out in the working world....Ray sings so beautifully and they sound like a choir in the background at times....so tasty a cut....thanks so much for this...made my day...going to see them today with my 16 year old daughter...pass on the music torch....Chris
Creepy harmonies. Awesome!
My mom never minded the Moodies music playing on the record player back in the 60s. My dad sang opera but moodies were acceptable.
Excellent even after all these years
Love the Moody Blues!
of course they knew it! Justin Hayward didn't smile at all during the 60s and 70s and he giggles
at Ray when he "plays" the flute. They are having such fun! I wish i was there, what a blast from the past! lol!
Such FUN!🎀😊😍💕🎉💯🤗😎☝💗
Brings back beautiful times from the past....so awesome!
I'm right here helliepellie2. This one slipped by me. You gave me a good laugh. My response is to the moody blues, "lazy day".
Thank u for posting this
the great moody blues...the pionners of their era..very romanctic ...i love that song !
Sundays haven't changed so much since the early '70 Boring. But the song is so catchy and nice to listen to
Thanks for uploading this!
I can listen to this all sunday morning!
Great stuff, didn't realise this gem was out there either! Just found all the moodies stuff on youtube I may be here some time!
I literally just stumbled upon this, this Sunday morning. I'm dreading tomorrow.
davvero piacevoli ed atmosferici..
@DECEMBERSCHILD12172 The last phrase to the song is

Agreed. On the other hand i tend to be a bit more forgiving of lip synching when the music is so incredible and the band so amazing.
@bluroses28711
We were so lucky to grow up with them.... 55 here and still hopelessly in love with these guys. Even named one of my sons Justin after Hayward! Shine on

One of my favs from Ray!

@spacepatrolman hahaha ! brilliant mate !
Love these guys... but wondering if they are singing along with a recording... watch the guy in blue when he plays the harmonica
This is actually one of my very fave MB songs
Funny and as usual, great harmonies
Of course it is lip synced-but a lovely concert that I have watched many times-thank you moodiesfan!
there's a dvd available "live 1970" get it , it's quite worth it! love the humro in this one!
Super Moody !!!

@spacepatrolman I did, but what about that post brought up the issue oh Hammond organ maintenance? Just curious...
This is a great series of vids. Any way to download it all en toto?
@timbongo1 Yeah, I noticed that, too. God I miss that Record (whatever happened to it, I have no idear...I haven't seen it since approx. 1992-ish or so.!

Well that clears up half the confusion --are they PLAYIMG LIVE (the music) on these songs as well 9the one in which the vocals ARE live???
on the threshold of a dream

oh yeah! thanks^^ i knew it sounded familiar somehow.

Definitely dubbed as it is sounds EXACTLY as it does on the album.
Harmonica playing when Ray is not playing it .
i must say tho, i do enjoy Pindy's orchestrations!
@IsisTiamat I named one of my sons Justin (after Justin Hayward) also.
never heard this version before. I thought it would be a cover of "spank and our gang" 's song "lazy day".
LOL
@glenrep What do you mean they were not all lip synched on the paris 1970 show..what songs are NOT lip synched..i cant find any that are not.
1969. Big Spring. I was serving Sam in his efforts of domination and control. All to the benefit of...well some of your remember..who. Anyway. The M. B.'s were my staple diet of music to keep me grounded. Oh dog feces (I probably can not say shit on RUclips) this is a great song.

Morning sweet cheeks! Is now a good time to tell you im doing fuck all today 👍👍👍
Que coros tan sincronizados todos eran unos virtuosos en su musica buenos compositores lastima.
war wohl doch mehr bigbandmachine v.otari im spiel in family-bunker for slaves?or what/32 line or 24 hoho
Lip sinking can still be entertaining.
rip
They obviously didn't lip sync. the studio version is just played over the video.
Who else could write lyrics like "must be Beef today because lamb was last week: and make it WORK LOL...good old RAY....
This song was clearly dubbed. Justin is playing an electric guitar, but there is only an acustic guitar in the song. Also, Ray pulls his mouth away from the harmonica while the hamonica solo is still playing?
Why would they be dubbing in front of a live audience?
We perform this song in my Moody Blues tribute act "The Lost Chord". Check us out on YT!
