Majority of the monitors you've mentioned use PWM, which aren't flicker free. A flicker free monitor ensures reduction of eye fatigue and headaches, especially if people will be working from home 8 hours a day. In my opinion this should be the the very first and most important factor in people deciding between monitors. This was definitely an oversight on your part.
For work, any monitor must have a USB-C upstream with power (100W+ preferred, but 90W min) combo. Aside from wanting a ton of ports, and ergo height/tilt/rotation, I also would want a built in speakers with decent loudness. As of now, Dell U3818dw fits the bill. I just wished they Dell had an Ultrasharp 49" with speakers (and eqivlent to 2x 27" 4K).
Great picks but some are expensive ! ( especially in Canada) I came across DELL U2719D .. QHD and a good price and 27 inches ..looked a pretty good pick
Really fed up of watching a dozen videos. Nothing seems to fit my requirements. 27-inch, 1440p, >=120Hz, USB-type C display, flicker free, height and pivot adjustment stand. Anything of this sort out here?
Pythagoras says: sqrt((1.66*21)^2 + (1.66*9)^2) = 37.93 sqrt((1.66*16)^2 + (1.66*9)^2) = 30.47 So it's more like a 30.5" monitor at 1.3125 times width. This makes sense, since 27" 2560x1440 is 109 PPI, 38" 3840x1600 is 110 PPI, so same pixel density but more vertical pixels means it must be taller than the height of a 27" display.
I don't know what to do, with same resolution I am torn between 27 and 32, is 27 going to be enough? How hard is to find online videos or images of an average person next to these monitors measurements?

I just bought the 49 inch LG and honestly, it's a gamechanger. I know the Dell has the exact same panel. Not sure what the differences are (besides design) But i can tell you, just buy one of these, either the Dell or the LG. Can anyone recommend a 500 nits monitor with good contrast for under 1000USD? I'm thinking 24-27 inches, and there's no need for gaming or HDR features. It's for an M1 Mac Mini.
Hello! Help with personalized buying advice is something our experts offer only via our insider forums www.rtings.com/forums/insider-advice. We do have lots of self-service tools and recommendation articles that should be helpful as well though!
You missed that the Dell U3818dw has a longer height than a 27" (which is very useful, and noticeable), and has a USB-C port which can eliminate a docking station (if your PC has a USB-C port also).
I really want a 34" or larger monitor but cant decide what to get. So many options. I really want to read text well, watch videos, and have it last a long time with long pixel life. Any suggestions on that? Good vid
Does someone have any experience or opinions on philips office monitor? (the Philips 275S1AE / 00 27 to be exact) Because it looks almost the same as the dell, same specs and all but cheaper. Thanks in advance
Its cheaper to get a 43" 16:9 instead of a ultrawide 38". You will get a monitor just as wide, with even more height for less money. Although there are no curved ones with IPS (?).
Viewing distance to corners on big monitors is significanlty bigger than to center, so seriously consider curved screen, but curved means distorted perspective - not good for precise graphics work.
Hello sir, First - thanks for the time/effort for making this video - really informative. I have couple of queries - It will be great if you can suggest. I am planning to purchase two monitors for "work from home" setup - mostly for programming purposes - no gaming at all. I prefer to have the monitors which can be rotated 90 degrees to get a portrait mode. Now, the issue is - most of the 1080p 24" monitors do not support rotation. The monitors which support rotation are considerably costlier for almost the same specs. So, I would like your suggestion on: 1. Shall I go for a dual monitor stand + two non-rotating monitors or 2. Shall I go for two rotating monitors Thanks :)
I m looking for a 27" VA 144Hz 1440p Monitor with accaptable response t. for gaming. Any suggestions? Yeah there are IPS Monitors like the LG 850-B but I want some more contrast for gaming in dark environments and games + avoid BLB and glow as much as possible. The Monitor needs to work fine espacilly in games like escape from tarkov.
For ‘best’ Mac monitor, I would have gone up just one more step to the LG 32UL950-W, as it features Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, does portrait mode, can go brighter, and has a few other ‘bells and whistles’. Although not everyone would utilise these extra features. This is just my view though.
When will you guys review the new LG CX oleds already? They have been out for weeks now first at BestBuy now pretty much everywhere. I'm curious if it's actually any better than C9 or there's nothing at all worth paying twice the price for
We don't know when we'll be able to. The government here has ordered all non-essential businesses to close, so our labs are currently shut down. It's extremely high on our priority list when we reopen, but we don't know when that'll be.
Dell is not much available here , and seems much over priced .... can u suggest me from Hp ,,, under $250k ...... just for reading web text/word/pdf all day comfortly ...
I want to improve my WFH setup but would rather have a single 49" super ultrawide than 2x cheaper 27" monitors for a cleaner look. Tried the Odyssey G9 but wasn't impressed so am waiting till CES 2021 before deciding on a purchase as so close now (Jan 11th). PS - Dell make some lovely monitors, they always have done.
They are all trash compared to a CX 48". Just dont use it as a monitor, but when you want to casual game or see a movie and have a second monitor for your intense gaming and browser sessions.
Rtings can you do a few tests comparing game mode vs cinema mode picture quality in game, OLED vs QLED? I think that would be pretty interesting , , for TVs
Garbage review. All dell monitors have awful IPS glow, really bad backlight bleeding and awful coating that increase IPS glow and make picture look worse. Yet for some reasons they have higher price compared to other brands.
Rtings is difficult to say, imo. I feel like a moron when i try to tell anyone about this great site and channel. R(a)tings, sure. i get it. (or do i? =) rThings (with H ) would be easier and make perfect sense as in rating things.
Geez how much did Dell pay you? It might be a good choice and I probably would've chosen one but they don't allow vesa mounts. Edit: It seems I was wrong here. Ive read a lot of reviews stating Dell didn't do vesa but it was apparently inaccurate. I don't want to further the spread of misinformation.
@@RTINGSdotcom Really? Well there's a bunch of misinformation online regarding Dell and vesa mounting. I nearly pulled the trigger on a couple of Dells and backed out because of comments, answered questions, and online posts stating Dells need ugly/visible adaptors for VESA. If I'm wrong, my apologies, but i read it so many times and saw the actual adaptors.

LOVING THE #LUMIY for my lighting in my room
Majority of the monitors you've mentioned use PWM, which aren't flicker free.
A flicker free monitor ensures reduction of eye fatigue and headaches, especially if people will be working from home 8 hours a day.
In my opinion this should be the the very first and most important factor in people deciding between monitors.
This was definitely an oversight on your part.
What are some good flicker free monitors?
@@Ryezn5057 Yeah I want to hear em...
Totally agreed, This is the most important factor when you selecting a monitor for a worksetup!
“If you’re looking for a monitor during the NEXT MONTH OR SO” lol
Yeah, that didn't age well🤣
love the quick acting during the transitions lol
For work, any monitor must have a USB-C upstream with power (100W+ preferred, but 90W min) combo. Aside from wanting a ton of ports, and ergo height/tilt/rotation, I also would want a built in speakers with decent loudness. As of now, Dell U3818dw fits the bill. "Have you picked up a new monitor to make it a little easier"
As a Best Buy worker, I can assure you they have.
Are you sure it’s a good idea to buy the dell 27 inch 4K if you’re only getting a 27 inch.
this was so nice to watch - thanks for taking the time to lay them out :)
Great picks but some are expensive ! ( especially in Canada) I came across DELL U2719D .. QHD and a good price and 27 inches ..looked a pretty good pick
My monitor lags in timing with the mouse cursor. Which monitor prevents that?
Great, I think overall Dell are the best options for WFH
I petition to have churro be in every intro from now on.
Fuck it, he should be giving the presentations themselves.
I have the possibility to buy Dell P2719h or Dell U2717, Which would you recommend?
Really fed up of watching a dozen videos. Nothing seems to fit my requirements. 27-inch, 1440p, >=120Hz, USB-type C display, flicker free, height and pivot adjustment stand. Anything of this sort out here?
U will get it with cheap TN panel. Seek best fps gaming monitor 27
Dear Rtings- What 4K monitor (32 inch and above) would you recommend for UHD video editing and predominantly playback? Thank you
hey boss ,,, i saw your website says dell2417h is the best monitor for good pic, but isnt it too old , as made in 2017 , for less self life ???
I'm almost sure than a 38" ultrawide is similar to having one and a half regular 32" monitor side by side, not a 27". Now I'm in doubt.
Pythagoras says:
sqrt((1.66*21)^2 + (1.66*9)^2) = 37.93
sqrt((1.66*16)^2 + (1.66*9)^2) = 30.47
So it's more like a 30.5" monitor at 1.3125 times width.
You could’ve skipped the transitions lol
When you mention certain monitors can't swivel, you should say whether they have vesa mounts, so you can use an arm and swivel that way.
Most monitors have VESA mounts apart from incredibly cheap and nasty ones
I'm a radiologist planning to temporarily work from home... Any recommendations? I'll be mostly looking at black and white images.

TCL 50S425 50 inch 4K Smart LED Roku TV (2019)
Can anyone recommend a 500 nits monitor with good contrast for under 1000USD? I'm thinking 24-27 inches, and there's no need for gaming or HDR features. It's for an M1 Mac Mini.
Can you do a video on best monitors for reading text/documentation? Thanks!
can some one suggest, Dell S2722Q vs BenQ EW2880U which one is better
main purpose is Text Clarity mainly for office work and majorly coding.
Hello!
Help with personalized buying advice is something our experts offer only via our
insider forums www.rtings.com/forums/insider-advice. We do have lots of self-service tools and recommendation articles that should be helpful as well though!
You missed that the Dell U3818dw has a longer height than a 27" (which is very useful, and noticeable), and has a USB-C port which can eliminate a docking station (if your PC has a USB-C port also).
what monitor can a GTX1070 drive w/o a hitch? I do work and game on my PC but cant afford a better video card for another year or two...
is BENQ LED 21.5" IPS - BL2283 good enough for reading?
I really want a 34" or larger monitor but cant decide what to get. So many options. I really want to read text well, watch videos, and have it last a long time with long pixel life. Any suggestions on that?
Good vid
Go with Dell, costlier compared to other brands but overall a better product
do these allow split screen?
Does someone have any experience or opinions on philips office monitor? (the Philips 275S1AE / 00 27 to be exact) Because it looks almost the same as the dell, same specs and all but cheaper.
Thanks in advance
What is the successor to the LG 32UD99-W because I can't seem to find anywhere to be able to buy it in Australia...
Yeah me too.
Its cheaper to get a 43" 16:9 instead of a ultrawide 38". You will get a monitor just as wide, with even more height for less money. Although there are no curved ones with IPS (?).
can u wall mount the monitors?
Viewing distance to corners on big monitors is significanlty bigger than to center, so seriously consider curved screen, but curved means distorted perspective - not good for precise graphics work.
Your site is not telling the truth about the color gamut of monitors. Replace your colorimeters, if you have any. Example - Dell U2520d. Etc.
what's the ideal tabletop width for a 32 inch monitor?
Hello sir,
First - thanks for the time/effort for making this video - really informative.
So, I would like your suggestion on:
1. Shall I go for a dual monitor stand + two non-rotating monitors or
2. Shall I go for two rotating monitors
Thanks :)
AOC 24G2U or AOC 27G2U are great for their price, they support portrait mode and more.
how does a 5k retina display from the imacs compare to those monitors mentioned here?
Specially for when it comes to reading documents
I love the work you guys do. Stay safe
how do you manage share screen on ultrawide?
This is just my view though.
stopped reading after mac
Love the puppy!
Have you considered also BenQ PD3220U?
Omg i desperately was just lookin for a new monitor and you guys came up with this fire video!! Thanks!!
Gutes Video. Jetzt schmerzen meine Augen nicht mehr vom Bildschirm von Mitralicht
Hello! Very informative video! I also recommend Philips Brilliance 499P9H.
@@RTINGSdotcom US is STILL under quarantine? Jee someone must REALLY enjoy their current toilet paper margins way too much... OK thx good to know
We're not in the U.S., we're in Montreal, Canada.
@@RTINGSdotcom Ah. I see. Thanks. I just heard that you don't review Panasonic because it's not in the US market so I assumed you were in the US.
Any comment about U2419H?
Dell is not much available here , and seems much over priced .... can u suggest me from Hp ,,, under $250k ...... just for reading web text/word/pdf all day comfortly ...
Piercing is distraction for me. Though I watched the video.
I never see any HP monitors in any reviews. they are as good as the top stuff.
Which would you recommend?
Damn. nice video but these piercings are trashy af.
unwatchable
I didn't want to be the one to say it, but read my mind.
It's 2020, I'd say who care but looks like you care TOO much...
Unemployable.
Even for office use you dont want slow 60Hz panels. LG 38WN95C-W
I agree, everything lower than 120Hz seems sluggish after using 144Hz for a long time.
Doggo is so focused lol
What breed is your dog?
Cute dog. I have a dachsund/chihua looks like your dog. Thanks for the review
You have something on your lip.
stopped watching the video cuz the "fish hook" look is just gross.
Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one.
Anyone got thoughts on the LG 27UL850?
Can you guys do ratings on projectors?
for me, apart from the information, what made the video super entertaining were the scene transitions! how great!
Sponsored by Dell; an economical choice... still $300... hmmmm...
A monitor isn't something cheap...
PS - Dell make some lovely monitors, they always have done.
vote for dell 2720q
USB-C + 4K
Sponsored by Dell?
Rtings is the best
I literally only clicked this for the dog
Just buy a 144hrz monitor this guy literally put the most overpriced monitors possible
I wonder what churro's recommendations are .
PLEASE REVIEW THE OMEN HP27i 2k monitor
They are all trash compared to a CX 48". Just dont use it as a monitor, but when you want to casual game or see a movie and have a second monitor for your intense gaming and browser sessions.
Awesome video, any chance we could cooperate with your team and sent you our microphone tech product? thanks
X900H reviw?
Hell! Where is Xiaomi Monitors?(
Rtings can you do a few tests comparing game mode vs cinema mode picture quality in game, OLED vs QLED? I think that would be pretty interesting
, , for TVs
Great info cute doggy.
I so wanted to watch this, but those things at your lower lips are a huge turn off...
So overall... just choose a Dell!
And I am not paid by Dell.
Never. Not at all. Promise ! 😬
Samsung? come on LG and Dell but no Samsung?
There’s something wrong with your braces
Dell? Brrrr!
Deberían poner subtítulos en español para la gente latinoamericana que no sabe english!!!sería de mucha ayuda!!
Subjective! Not a single Samsung monitor on review
Review LG CX PLEASEEEEE......
sponsored by dell?
Garbage review.
All dell monitors have awful IPS glow, really bad backlight bleeding and awful coating that increase IPS glow and make picture look worse.
Yet for some reasons they have higher price compared to other brands.
his braces are broken.
Givin the like because of ur dog hahahaha
🐕
even cheaper overall is very expensive for me.... these was useless guide for me.. so sorry, even its a good review
like for dog
Pretty poor video, all you do is recommend Dell.
for 34''' 2560 res is not good, should be 3440
Rtings is difficult to say, imo. I feel like a moron when i try to tell anyone about this great site and channel. R(a)tings, sure. i get it. (or do i? =) rThings (with H ) would be easier and make perfect sense as in rating things.
"One word all lower case, four words all upper case"
Dell Dell Dell...hmmm
Dellete
metal on lips annoying painful to watch
full 4k is 2x full hd not 4x
🤦
Woo puppy
plx review Asus VP249QGR =]
Geez how much did Dell pay you? It might be a good choice and I probably would've chosen one but they don't allow vesa mounts.
Edit: It seems I was wrong here. Ive read a lot of reviews stating Dell didn't do vesa but it was apparently inaccurate. I don't want to further the spread of misinformation.
We're not sure what you mean? Every monitor in this video supports VESA mounting.
Nope, all of these monitors directly support VESA 100x100 mounts, no adapters required.
@@RTINGSdotcom Well I appreciate you setting me straight. Thank you.
