Great heartfelt speech. There have been lots of rumors about egos among the cast. From what I’ve read, Bea and Estelle got along very well because they both came from the Broadway stage. Theater actors have been known to think a little less of tv actors because they don’t have to face a new audience every night, without a chance for retakes, or going up on their lines.
"Picture this Sicily 19..", :+) I never considered her as supporting actress she is way up there with the three other amazing ladies may they rest in peace and may Betty White still remain healthy during her remaining years they were a great part of my growing up years...
Estelle Getty lives on forever in our hearts as Sophia Petrillo, this win was well deserved, and she was in good company. So sad that dementia took this beautiful soul in 2008, what a loss.
Estelle seemed like such an angel, I would've loved to meet her. I love how she briefly launches into her Sophia character at the start of the speech. XD. Best character on TGGs! lol. She seems absolutely nothing like the sassy Sicilian senior we all know and love. And she had little acting experience but was able to pull it off flawlessly. :)

Golden Girls will always be one of the most important shows I have watched as a gay man. The love and acceptance that radiates from it, and the humor and wisdom that comes with it, will always be a balm for the ills of life. She was the definition of supporting. For one, she was never intended to be a regular character, just a guest star from time to time. That changed after the pilot. Even so, the other three were often the focus of the main plot and Sophia was the subplot.
