I like that Nepo attacks like a madman and makes his moves quickly... I find it endearing. But the problem is Magnus has engine-like precision and just doesn't make mistakes. It's like Magnus is Nepo kryptonite. I'd love to see Ian and Hikaru play
Magnus is everyone's kryptonite because everyone has a flaw but Magnus has less flaws than anybody else. He had a bad score against Nepo in classical (though many of it was when they were kids) but it changed drastically last 4-5 months. There was a reddit thread after that WC series showing Magnus has more or less dominated every player around his era etc.
But it's a lot harder to dominate now than it was in Kasparov's day. Everyone who wants to take you down, has instant access to every move you make, and computer analysis of every move you make, and they've all had access to far better learning and training tools for their entire lives than were even dreamed of In Kasparov's day. The playing field has never been so level.
Incredible how Magnus finds ihuman moves to save positions. In many of those games he had winning positions but took his foot off the gas. Nepo also showed that he really is the second best in the world by crushing everyone else!
Honestly the same happens with Hikaru too in these online events. He too is leading with Magnus just behind him in the group stage. Skip to the finals and BAM Magnus wins seemingly effortlessly. The dominance that guy has is just unfathomable. Just tells us how much difference there is between the absolute first and seconds.
