      It's wild. Maybe he could have tried some more adventurous stuff but then maybe also he'd be out by game 9 instead. It's hard not to blunder over the course of a few hundred moves, especially with how tricky magnus makes it. The big blunders were a bit unbecoming of him but also truthfully didn't matter much, he was already in a pretty bad spot. Everyone seems to have forgot how insanely well he played in the first few matches

      @@onniruusunen9444 Nice try, but you’re no where near his level. Ian only really made 1 blunder this entire tournament with the move b5. Pretty sure anybody below 2200 routinely makes small 1 pawn blunders like this (just watch Danya’s speedruns). Also the 1 pawn blunder isn’t huge but he’s playing against Magnus, that was the blunder, not necessarily the pawn itself. Against most other players he could’ve made a draw even with that “blunder”. This game he already gave up, didn’t even care to stop Magnus’s pawn. He sees it. Don’t think you’re better at chess than him lmao. There’s also zero chance you or anyone below 2700 would’ve stopped Magnus’s pawn advance in game 6 too. Who knows how many 2700’s could’ve stopped it either. For you to put 1600’s on such a high pedestal, I’m thinking you’re below that rating talking smack about a world champion challenger. Learn some humility and sit down.

But I never learned about strategy or tactics etc, just knew how the pieces moved and played with my parents, friends or grandparents for fun. :) But there was definitely a "chess boom" in the country when Magnus was up for the world champion title. And Norwegian tv channels have had a chess studio with commentators every year since, for almost every big tournament, with an average of over half a million people tuning in to every game. Which is like 10 % of the population. When he defended the title in 2018 almost 800 000 people watched the final game! So Magnus definitely popularized it up here. :)

    Chess is often described as the 'pure, mathematical' game that relies only on analysis and all that, but we must not forget there's a psychological aspect to it too.
    And that's what seems to have hurt Nepo, after losing that marathon of a game. In a format where draws are commonplace, he didn't just happen to lose games after games like that due to a lack of chess skills. Seems more like he was completely out of it, he wasn't there.
    It's a bit sad (and I don't see why people are being mad at him, it's not like he's doing that on purpose). Anyway, fun games, and good reviews!

    • @shambhav9534
      @shambhav9534 2 года назад +5

      Even if he didn't do that on purpose, you can't deny you kinda have a "Who let him in the championship?" feeling. Nepo was kind of playing his moves really fast, and they caused the blunders. It is hard to keep on going after losing like that but he could've like played some gambit and had fun in all or nothing style instead of just playing out a few quick matches. I can completely understand why people would be mad at him. He just threw away the only opportunity to see the king's gambit in a world championship. He could've even like kept on going with normal openings, but he didn't; as shown by how much time he spent on his moves. The blunders were caused by Nepo losing his will and playing too fast, and people will surely be mad at you for not trying hard enough.

      @@lik7953revisiting his match since ding v ian has started, and its just depressing to watch Magnus take a somewhat early lead and see nepo crumble after that, the first loss was 136 moves, his next three subsequent loses were 134 moves all 3 games together. Ian had the mental strength to battle against one of the greatest chess players ever for 136 moves, but lost that fortitude after the first loss, and then that blunder in game 7 or 8 I believe where his bishop gets trapped. Imagine being a super GM and just making an elementary blunder like that in the most important match of your life at that time, it’s just shattering to think that you allowed yourself to do that. Anyways, I’m very excited to see the new world champ after this ongoing match, both very deserving players even en lieu of Magnus declining the opportunity to hold the title for the 6th time.

The work you put in reminds me of a famous quote that success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Since this match is now over, can you make videos on past world championship matches that you haven't covered yet? It's been a while since you've done a chess history video.

      He came through risky games, due to the initial defeat, apart from the fact he's taken the consequences of a few blonders in summary. Mainly because of the stress. He has not been neither bad nor, as you dared to say, pity. I acknowledge the superiority of Magnus, but you should also have a bit of respect.

    What I will remember from this match is the most accurate game ever played in a world championship match. Even that was not enough to defeat Magnus. After that, when Nepo lost that grueling longest game ever battle, he lost psychologically. Very tough match... when you lose a game to Magnus who hasn't lost in a world championship match against anyone for so long time, the pressure must be immense and the challenge to win almost unsurmountable. Chess is so delicate if your mind gets even a little imbalanced, it will be tough to keep up your best game. I guess Nepo just straight up decided to create imbalanced position, even with great risk, rather than going for a quiet draw. And what else could he try at this point? No point in playing for certain draw and losing match almost certainly.
