I loved the "acting" in this video, especially the bit at the end where Samus stops, and you can practically see her thinking, "Shit, am I forgetting something?"
Taking damage from Mother Brain's Hyper Beam is scripted and unavoidable.

The animals got off on their own spaceship in time.
You can see a dot flying away on the right side of the planet after the explosion. The animals reappear in Metroid Fusion as well.
I mean, she escaped self destruct 3 times already.

Yup... the way Ridley was changing colors, he was pretty close to actually dying and was like "man fuck this I'm out of here", lol.

seriously, i don't think even like... i've actually seen a flowchart of Ridley's AI. it's so ridiculously complicated that i don't think even high-level speedrunners bother to learn it. You just go by instinct. And honestly, it makes the people who speedrun things like reverse boss order seem like lunatics...

Can we take a moment to appreciate how scary they are even if they’re pixeled?
That's actually what makes them so scary. No 3D model can convey what these sprites do.
Crocomire was the one who actually got to me. Not the fight itself, but afterwards. Granted, I was subjected to stuff like Alien and John Carpenter's The Thing, so take that with a grain of salt.

This game came out 6 years before I was even born and is still one of the best games I have ever played. Truly a testament to how well made the game is when it still sets standards and it came out 27 years ago!

That red thing after kraid, DAMN THAT THING DIES VIOLENTLY. In NSMB, Bowser still lived after he got incinerated, And it was instantaneous. We didnt get to see bowsers FUCKING SKIN MELT OFF OF HIM.

Crocomire has the best death animation.

My god, "most intense?" Mother Brain's battle is the scariest video game boss battle ever. Nothing else even comes close. Her screams, the music, it's all so terrifying.
Mother Brain is the easiest boss.
The composers for this game are mind-blowing. They manage to create the perfect atmosphere for every moment in the game.

I used the "cheat way" to beat Draygon. Let him grab me then grappled the electricity with the grapple beam and watched him fry (also drains your own health but you will outlive him)
Thats what I did too! I was under the impression that it was the only way to beat him

I remember when this game came out, saw a friend fighting Mother Brain (he had rented the game), thought to myself, oh same old boss fight I see. Well he defeated the first form, I'm thinking alright it's over. I wasn't ready for the bitch to actually have a body this time, completely caught me off guard, but prepared me for what I was to expect when I bought my copy weeks later. I still have that copy in original box to this day, a treasure of the SNES.
One of the best SNES games ever created. Holds replay value really well. I can't have enough of this game--I can play it in 20 years later and it will still be good.
2D sprites age like fine wine, and replay value never leaves a quality game like this.

The guy in the playthrough made it look like a cutscene where it looks like she finished the brain off but in actuality, you have full control over your character in this scene. The brain will turn to dust anyway. It's a neat little touch that he did that.

Okay, that's actually really impressive that you can escape after the first battle with Ridley without taking any damage.
It's possible, the battle ends when:
You shoot 100 beams at Ridley
Or the Low Health Alarm starts
Crocomire's death is like, the most BRUTAL! You can see him melting in the lava!

Actually, crocomire NEVER was a menace (It's absolutely unecessary beat him to continue with the game) he just only defend himself of your attacks and he NEVER wants to hurt you.... very sad story isn't it?

I love the subtle details. At 16:29 you can see samus' sprite change to looking up at the metroid.
Shockingly enough people still theorize that the Super Metroid is still alive, just thriving somewhere else in the universe, spreading peace and happiness rather than malice, destruction, and devastation. I theorize that first of all.
This is amazing! Also, I love the editing, the transition from room to room as if this is a boss rush mode in the actual game. Nice!
59 minutes, 100%. That's my best achievement for beating Super Metroid... in 1996 when I was 13 and my dexterity was flawless. Never came close since :'-(

I remember playing this back in 99 when I was 5. I don’t think I understood the sadness of the metroid encounters until recently that I played it. I cried after thinking about it for a bit. No dialogue nothing, but either way it is a powerful story.

Yeah, LOL mother brain's hyper beam is impossible, we all know.
it's impossible to avoid that part. Even if you didn't get hit by it (wich someone has done) the game actually makes you take damage, the beam is just a graphical display, so technically it is a no-damge boss run.

No it wouldn't. Nintendo doesn't really do horror. Plus, the modern graphics would make most of this look really bad, especially if they go for that 3D look they used in the Samus Returns remake.

I had the SNES and Super Metroid when I was younger, but it is in good condition, and we never thought it was in the shed out back, but my father found it in the shed and the game as well! Thank god we still had it. We lived outside of Barclay which is a very small town

In all my playthroughs of this game over many years, never have I seen Ridley drop the Metroid case in the first fight, nor have I ever seen that fight take so long to end
