John didn’t store his stuff under all that concrete in the basement. That was his way of putting that past behind him. He broke it open to get revenge for his dog, then put everything back. It’s meant to be difficult to get to because it was intended to be put away forever.
Fun fact, the station scene where John and Cassian (the other assassin) where shooting each other, is an ironic scene portraying how people in NYC will not respond to danger unless it comes their way.
The "John Wick" movies keep to a simple, formulaic plot, but they're consistently quality products based on incredibly choreographed fight scenes, superb camera work, non-stop action, and a cast of actors who are clearly dedicated to delivering a satisfying performance. It's a great series, and I'm looking forward to your reaction to #3, and I'm really eagerly anticipating seeing #4 when it comes out.
I love the weight of honor amongst those in the "business". The Marker is basically a vow between those that share it. I do you a favor, anything you want me to do, and in exchange I can cash in that favor any time I want and you then have to do whatever I need you to do. If the favor is ignored, it's a massive breach of trust and honor, and is reason to have you killed because you besmirched the honor behind it.
I always figured, in the John Wick universe, everyday civilians know there's a huge group of international assassins and are totally cool with it. So when John and the other guy are shooting at each other as they walk calmly through the crowded hall, with the other guy on the upper level, everyone is just ignoring them since they're so used to assassins shooting at each other...
I always figured it was because people were so oblivious to the world around them. The maintenance guys in the subway had to hide their guns in their coveralls while chasing John Wick, after all. But I do think the cops knew, as the first movie showed, and just didn't get involved as long as it didn't involve anyone outside their underground crime community.
Can't wait for John Wick 3 now. Yeah, what I like about the John Wick movies is that the universe they live in is pretty complicated but the story is very simple; so if you are ever confused about what is happening, just remember John is trying to kill someone. I also like John's black suit because black is my favorite color.
If you haven't seen Keanu doing firearms training for the Wick movies, I highly suggest you look it up. He really put in the work and came out a certified badass which is a BIIIIG part of why the action looks so good
Hi, Angelina, the first one was the best of them, however, the action and fight scenes are so good throughout that they are all good. The story that ties them together is a good enough excuse for the excessive action. Lots of fun. Thanks, you bring a smile on my face.
This series changed the way action films are shot and edited. Over the years, films have gotten more filled with fast shots and faster cuts, then _John Wick_ came along, with its lengthy shots and minimal cuts, and was a surprise blockbuster. Suddenly, Hollywood realized that people appreciated actors and crew putting in the work to do it for real. It's the same reason people liked _The Matrix,_ because people can tell when it's the real actors vs digital effects.
If she watched the first one (I’m assuming so) she shouldn’t be surprised that everyone knows John. The first one straight up sets the tone and lets you know he’s literally the legend amongst ALL assassin across the world in the John Wick universe.
As a former military man, I can absolutely tell you Keanu is a certified badass in weapons handling. When he reloads his weapon, it's called combat loading, or loading while engaging the enemy. Him shooting twice to the body(torso) and then the head is called the Mozambique drill. It's to ensure the target is truly dead. The world that he lives in where everyone is an assassin, hitman or shooter who might wear body armor means he almost always have to shoot at least twice minimum. Thankfully he's one of the of the nicest celebrities ever. If not, I'd shudder at anyone trying to make him pissed off. He's trained in various martial arts (though no black belt) and a damn good weapon handler.
Thanks for another great review... This one is my favourite of the John Wick films... If you are wanting his back story, a lot if it is explained in the next film....
The phrase 'fortis fortuna adiuvat' is often attributed to the Roman playwright Terence, and can be found in his play, Phormio. A literal translation is 'the strong ones, Fortune helps'. The play is named after the character Phormio, who is a cunning "parasite" (that is, a person who makes a living by performing services for richer people). It is also used by a number of military units around the world as well as the motto of 5 different warships. 🤷♂
5:00 Well. In the first movie, he was retired. He sealed his stash because he thought he wouldn't need it anymore (or only in an extreme case). Now his revanche is completed and he still thinks he won't need it, so he sealed it back.
Don't know if you watched them in release order, but the sommelier is played by Peter Serafinowicz, who played Shaun's roommate in Shaun of the Dead. He is also the voice of Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace.
It is pretty unique in that each film is basically within days of each other, so where one leaves off, the next picks up almost exactly where he was at. So it is almost like 1 very big movie
The best part of John is that everyone thinks he's extra. The legend is more fantastical than him, but he's more terrifying in reality. D'Antonio asks him how he'd kill him, and lists off all these crazy ways John could kill him using commonly available objects, but John replies "My Hands." It's not about being extra, it's about whatever he can use to get the job done. In the last movie, he didn't go hand-to-hand with Viggo and get stabbed just cos Viggo taunted his masculinity by saying "No more guns, John." John replied with "No more BULLETS." He's not entering a fist fight to prove his bravado, it's cos he's out of ammo. He does the same thing with Viggo's son, he doesn't let him have any final words about it being "just a fucking dog" because it's not about being extra, it's about finishing it. This is why the myth of the pencil is so fun. Everyone tells the story of John killing three men in a bar with a pencil because it's impressive, but to John it was just the only tool he had to hand to get the job done, and that to me is much scarier than someone who does things for the flashiness of it.
Fortis fortuna adiuvat is a quote from the Roman playwrite Terence dating back to 151 BC. A slightly different quote was used by the Roman poet Virgil in "The Aenied," audentes Fortuna adiuvat. Essentially the two lines are Latin and translate out to Fortune Favors the Brave or Fortune Favors the Bold. John's tattoo is pretty much the Terence version, Fortune Favors the Brave (or strong; Latin words can sometimes be translated differently.) That quote has been used by dozens of military units in dozens of nations, college mottos and noble coats of arms.
John Wicks Mustang is a super rare version that was only available for 69' and 70'. So it's not just a car 😅. Not to mention the sentimental value. Also, cars can be fixed way more than places say. They just automatically consider it totaled when the repairs cost more than the car is worth.
This movie is stunningly beautiful. I would say that Dan Laustsen should have gotten an Oscar nomination for cinematography; but this year he also got one for THE SHAPE OF WATER.
The director for these films is the stunt double for Keanu in the Matrix movies. So its not too much of a coincidence that Morpheus is in here too. Who knows, this whole thing could be a fabricated plotline designed by the machines dun dun DUN
The pitpull John Wick have is acually Keanu Reeves dog. The bad russian guy Viggo from the first movie was played by a swedish actor Michael Nyqvist. In the beggining of this movie Viggos brother Abram was also played by a swedish actor Peter Stormare, appearently swedish actors play good russians in movies. Peter Stormare you might have seen in Constantine with Keanu Reeves where Peter played The Devil. You also might have seen Peter in other big movies like Armageddon, Minority Report, The Tuxedo and others. Peter Stormare is a good friend to Keanu Reeves and asked him to play villain in his tv series Swedish Dicks ( Swedish Detectives ). I like all 3 of them, I can say this is one series that each installment only gets better and better not that any of them are bad at all but it defiantly steps it up as they go! ready for your reaction for part 3!
I'm from Rome and I know every place they went to film that, the fight Cassian-Wick takes place in like 8 different places xD but oh well, it's cinematography!
Love the John Wick movies. Ian McShane ( Winston ) has been in alot of movies you would know. Shrek The Third, Hercules ( Dwayne Johnson version ) Pirates of the Caribbean ( Blackbeard ) etc He actually started acting in England in the late 1960s but became a household name in the UK tv show Lovejoy in the 80s about an Antique Dealer solving mysteries.
Backstory on how John is that good at killing people is because he used to be a Hitman and also worked in a Russian criminal organization known as the Tarasov Mob (owned by Viggo Tarasov) in the early days before his wife died or maybe before he met his wife.
As a car guy i was a bit sad that youd said its not worth getting the car back ...the bond between a car person and their car can be very strong ... obviously its not as important as a person but the attachement is very strong especially when you have memories with your a loved one in that car ......for example when i sold my 1986 pontiac trans am i became emotional ...i didnt even understand why ...but now i know its because the car was attached to alot of good memories ...therefor kind of creating a personality for the car as if its part of family ...kind of hard to explain i hope you understand...so for me this scene in the movie is very relateable

You know, it just occurred to me now despite having seen John Wick 2 several times; despite having the Marker, Santino only called in the debt after John Wick returned to the underworld. Presumably him “retiring” didn’t nullify the marker, but Santino never tried to use it during that time. It’s odd, he’s not shown to be honorable or charitable at any other point but presumably there is no reason he would elect not to call in the marker otherwise.
I absolutely can't wait for your reaction to John Wick 3 because if you ask me it's the best one out of all 3 at least until the 4th comes out next year
In this video (which you diffidently should watch) "John Wick Directors React to The Honest Trailer" ruclips.net/video/3DNQJE8eHjw/видео.html Chad says "Without an actor like Keanu being as good as he is, we can't shoot that way. We can't edit that way, editing should be a choice not a forced call" 12:00 at 15:20 it's one of my favorite comments from the directors. They got the idea for this scene when one of their crew tripped and fell while walking through and everyone just walked around him rather than someone helping him up.
The brother wants John to kill his sister so he can lead the Camorra rather than his sister. John does it. Then the brother takes out a contract on John because...well...family. Even though the brother sets it up, he wants people to think he's avenging his sister. Frankly, he really doesn't care but it's a case of skewed optics. Can't let somebody kill your sister (and the titular head of your crime organization) and not put the guy down...even if you sent him.
filming in that mirror hallways scene must be tough. you need extra editing to crop out the crew and camera reflecting the mirrors. when john killed the personal bodyguard, the camera should've seen through the reflection but it adds to the feel that you are the one watching it rather than just looking at it through a lens.
John is a man that holds on to everything dear to him and if you take something from him that he cares about… well, let’s just say the wrath of god is summer breeze in comparison.
John shot her after she was dead. If he hadn't at least taken the shot, he would not have fulfilled the marker. As for the fast reloads, a lot of automatics have magazines that load in the grip. As the weapons expert explains when he's showing John the pistols, the model has a "flared" recess so the user doesn't have to perfectly align the magazine...the flared opening allows the magazine to engage and slide in even not aligned exactly...faster reloading.
Was not expecting this to get to where it went... Besides the John Wick 3, what other actions films should I watch?
Nobody
The last samurai 🥷
The night at the museum trilogy and the back to the future trilogy please❤😁👍
Mad Max: Fury Road lives up to the name. Also, probably good to get introduced to Furiosa before she gets her own movie

This guy John Wick can perfectly play a role of Keanu Reeves
Maybe John Wick and The Rock can make a documentary and play the role of Keanu Reeves and Dwayne Johnson
That is so true...
He kinda reminds me of that guy from Cyberpunk. You know, Bobby Goldenarm.
With the right director of course

When you said “commentary “ you were not kidding. I think you spoke more words than there was in the entire John Wick trilogy. Breathe girl, breathe.
Absolutely 100% correct, I only made it 2 minutes and 48 seconds and that’s all.

Turns out the main antagonist in part 4 is Hiroyuki Sanada, so I'm guessing it's somehow gonna be even more intense than the films we already got
I think Sanada is the friend and Donnie Yen/BIll Skarsgard are the villains
Don't forget Scott Adkins will be in it too

filming in that mirror hallways scene must be tough. you need extra editing to crop out the crew and camera reflecting the mirrors. when john killed the personal bodyguard, the camera should've seen through the reflection but it adds to the feel that you are the one watching it rather than just looking at it through a lens.
Timing. JW2 has just finished on the telly here. KSA.
at 15:00 Suppresed guns are still really loud
Not subsonic ones
And now you too can say "I saw John Wick kill three men with a pencil".
Keanu is irl a dangerous man if he wanted to be
"how on earth does everyone know me" 🤣 not Ange going schizo and thinking she's John
12:30 " *SLIGHTLY HURT* "
Seconds later: *Gets hit by a car*
haha , timing... what are the odds.😅
the way you explain about camera works, lol are you a film maker?
Tattoo is latin for “Fortune favors the bold/brave”
megashark on the table is amazing
John Wick never did learn to look both ways before crossing the street...
John is a man that holds on to everything dear to him and if you take something from him that he cares about… well, let’s just say the wrath of god is summer breeze in comparison.
Love this movie!!
"Watching for the first time" ..."and it still".
Suuuuure.
John shot her after she was dead. If he hadn't at least taken the shot, he would not have fulfilled the marker. As for the fast reloads, a lot of automatics have magazines that load in the grip. As the weapons expert explains when he's showing John the pistols, the model has a "flared" recess so the user doesn't have to perfectly align the magazine...the flared opening allows the magazine to engage and slide in even not aligned exactly...faster reloading.
the tattoo means fortune favors the bold
The Director of John Wick was Keanu Reeves' stunt double in The Matrix
Apparently, the stairs scene was the only one Keanu didn’t do himself.
