@@Dularr It's not even fair to call it an adaptation. The series has almost nothing in common with the characters and plot in the novel. The name, a few borrowed lines of voiceover.... not much. But I agree this story is superior to the novel.
Just a reminder, no spoilers, no leading comments, no unnecessary hateful comments, let's keep this a positive fun environment and have fun with this one guys
@@ellereacts528 Seriously? The knife? The same I just put? LoL wow, didnt know what it was just makes me think of Nicole. It wasn't here when I got here.
This is truly a masterpiece of storytelling/film-work. Attention to detail is required when viewing this to get the full experience. It will tell its story episode-to-episode involving jumps across time (siblings' childhood-to-adulthood like what you have seen), and the holes you have noticed will be filled in with information as the show goes on. Essentially each character will have their story told with each episode. This is just one season; a second season will be upcoming but it is going to be an anthology.
Great show. Utterly heartbreaking. All your questions will be answered by the end. Oh, and the actor playing the dad in the flashbacks? Elliott from E.T.
to answer your question this season is one and done, but there is a season two "The Haunting of Bly Manor" it's gonna bring back some of the same actors, but this is an anthology show, kinda like American Horror Story
This series truly is a masterpiece and has raised the bar for the genre on every level. Don't worry if you have trouble following along at first, and yes, you will need to be very astute. I won't tell you to talk less (because it's a reaction vid), but it is definitely necessary to listen more or you will miss very important details. The best thing to do is to let yourself be sucked into the world. Through its atmosphere, you'll not only be able to follow along with greater ease, but you will have an enriched experience that you have not had before. The pay-off will be worth it. Excellent job, you two. I can't wait for the next one. 🖤
I'm so happy you're watching this. So this is not a spoiler but it confuses some people, the house is on the east coast and Shirley and Theo live on the east coast and Steve, Nell and Luke live on the west coast. That's why the clocks had different times, because of the time zones. There will be a second season in maybe October. It was announced before covid so it may get pushed back.
one of the main things. . while this is calssified as a horror series and it does have some great jump scares, its not about the scares. . . its the suspense and mystery and family drama specifically tht drives the show. . family dynamics and relationships are the true focus
This is an Anthology show. The next season should be out in October, and will be titled the Haunting of Bly Manor. Can't wait! This is my favorite Netflix show!
The Haunting of Hill House is just one season but there is a second season coming which will take place in a different house with a different family called The Haunting of Bly Manor.
filming for the second season is done. The director said last week they are currently editing and doing post production. It will be based on the Gothic novel "Turn of the Screw"
After discovering your channel through this reaction, I went and binged a bunch of your other reactions. You guys are so thoughtful and I love hearing your insights! I’m so excited to see your journey with this show. It’s one of my favorite shows of all time. Keep it up! Hopefully you’ll enjoy it so much you’ll watch the next season as well (which is being made now)!
I'm so excited you guys are reacting to this show! It's honestly one of the best series I have ever seen. The character development is absolutely incredible. Be prepared for a wild ride!
I watched this show only because I love horror films, it showed up on Netflix and I thought I'd like it. I had no recommendations or anything. I loved it. So much so that I got my daughter-in-law & my son to watch, and I watched again with them. They both loved it too. Believe me - if you're intrigued in this first episode, you're already hooked-in for the rest of the show, because it only gets better & better. Enjoy! It's the best horror/drama series I've seen in a very long time - if ever. 😊🌺🏝️❤️ LOL! And I'm pretty sure the Amish - at least those that are still in the community - certainly wouldn't be watching YT, or TV for that matter. Just from what I know about them.
You can tell that Steven did not want to watch "Haunting....", but by the end of this series, I guarantee, you will enjoy this as more than a horror series. It is a really great show.
I feel like the best thing about watching it back with you guys (besides your awesome reactions & analysis) is seeing foreshadowing you obviously miss on the first viewing without knowing how it all comes together at the end. Sign of good writing and one of my favourite things about GoT! Edit: I hadn’t realised until watching this again about the woman Steve was helping how she said when you see something like that you just freeze and stare blankly which was what happened to him with Nell at the end of the episode! Also good point with Steve (who represents denial in the stages of grief) and the way he tends to explain witnessing supernatural occurrences away -putting it down to grief & trauma and the fact he can’t explain this with Nell according to his own logic because he didn’t even know she was dead yet to experience these supposed grief induced hallucinations!
No lie, it took me like four episodes before I realized Steven was Daario. I was so embarrassed that I didn't recognize him right away. Then I mentioned it to my husband and he facepalmed because he didn't realize it either.
you might wanna dim the lights a bit around your TV, if you have trouble seeing things in darker parts of a scene :) this isn't meant to be watched in bright daylight conditions
@@CraigKostelecky I know, another option would be to brighten the screen, but that could ruin the whole experience with scenes not looking as great...so yeah, maybe there is a compromise, brighten the screen slightly and get rid of one lightsource that projects a glare on screen...or something^^
The thing I love about this show is that, even though there are ghost/haunting, it is more about the actual family. Kind of like Walking Dead is more about the people who survive than it is about zombies.
I would like Steve to know that he very nearly killed me when he said “They go all are Amish viewers.” I was drinking at the time and almost choked to death, so thanks for that Steve! 🤣🤣
This season wraps up this story. There will be a second season but it is based on a completely different story. Many of the same actors will be back in new roles for the new story.

@@kylesilva8609 could barely even see the ghost that was hanging out over nellie onthe couch despite her hair being easier to see! no wonder he missed it
All your questions will be answered. One important detail to know going in is that Showrunner Mike Flanagan wrote the five children to each represent one of the five stages of grief. Steven is Denial, Shirley is Anger, Theo is Bargaining, Luke is Depression, and Nell is Acceptance.
Mike Flanigan said they got filming done before the pandemic and they were able to finish post production from home and it would be out in 2020. I would guess around Halloween like the first season.
OMG! This show is sooo good! I am not a horror fan, but this is so much more than just jump scares, trust me. It's a beautiful bitter sweet story with amazing cinematography and a great cast.
Hey guys, I don't know if your TV brightness is a little low, but I could definitely see the ghosts clearer when I watched. Might help Steve see them a bit better if you try turning your brightness up a tad? X
It always strikes me how in your face the ghost are in this show. A lot of the time in ghost movies and shows the ghost just kinda jumps and screams then vanishes it’s very different to see your dead sister just standing and screaming in front of you for a good minute.

@@Blizzard0fHope The only thing that worries me is Mike Flannigan did not direct the 2nd season. But he is still involved so that gives me hope :)
Somehow, this is not only a great show for people who love horror stories, it's also a fantastic horror story for people who hate horror stories.
also a fun fact: The younger version of the dad is Elliot from E.T. Henry Thomas.
Luke, in his tree-house has an E. T. lunchbox. That has to be a nod, right?
And mom is the mom from Spy Kids
Don't forget the "dario from GoT" is playing Steven.
And older Theo was the deaf woman who was stalked in Hush (good film!), while young Theo is now a ghostbuster.
