This show is not really “scary”, to me it was unnerving, uncomfortable and heartbreaking like I haven’t watched a show like this in a while that was so sad, tragic and just amazingly written and the young/adult actors are AMAZING
I agree. It is hard for me to be frightened by most shows or movies, IMO the show is creepy, not scary.
I think that's the thing though, all great horror movies... They have to rely on something other than fear, otherwise the feeling gets stale.
This show is fucking amazing because of how it fills you with such sad emotions as you watch these people's lives seem to crumble around them, you empathise and care for them which is what drives the plot.
The scary parts happen less frequently but are so much better in those shorter doses because you really care about the characters, not only is it kinda creepy but you're invested in them as well.
Bloody hell I haven't seen such a good horror story for a while...

The thing that makes it scary for me though is how those tender moments can be made terrifying

we watched episode 2 last night. i'm surprised there aren't more reactions to it cause we get tons of requests for it. 2 episode in it feels like a perfect show to react to.

I think it mite go down as one of the best things I've ever watched. You get wrapped up in the characters & because there's 5 kids, you are bound to relate to at least one of them... & you just get sucked in to the story... For me it was episode 3.... lol You'll see!!
Please pay attention! If you do the show is 50% better. It's the best horror TV show ever made.

@@ghostemane3209 it's not supposed to be realistic. The style they chose for the dialogue is a very expressive one that works very well for the show
Are you talking about all the back ground ghosts? I missed every single one untill i saw a video on youtube telling me about them. Im sure they will miss them too unless someone one tells them to look for them.
The writing is more play-style to me. I didn't care for some of it because of that, but recognize that it's more directly dramatic than cinematic from a plotting and dialogue standpoint.
IMPORTANT: Avoid spoilers at any cost. Depend on your Moderators like you did with Game of Thrones.
So glad you're watching this show! Oh my god, If you are already so into this after the first episode, you are in for a wild ride. This show is the best type of horror. It doesn't come with most of the cheap tricks. The horror comes from the sympathy and empathy that you develop with the well written characters and story :)
I sobbed continously and uncontrollably through the entire series. Both times I watched it.
The camera work on episode 6 is literally amazing! The whole episode is done in like 2 shots I think, all the actors are basically performing live, and the director and camera operator should get an Emmy for sure....

When that jump scare happened in episode 8 I realized it had gotten dark outside and I was like, “well that’s enough for now. I guess I’ll find out how it ends tomorrow.” 😂😂

One of the most finely crafted character stories I've ever seen and the mood created through their experiences is just incredible. Nikki is going to have a tough time watching this and I'm so excited to see others affected like I was.

OMG I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS! It's not a typical horror show so get ready for tears. It's truly a beautiful show though but it gets you in the feels. Look out for the hidden ghosts! I think you guys are going to love it. There are tiny details about literally every aspect of this show that makes it so much more special.

This show does SO GOOD at building tension throughout scenes. And they don't always rely on jumpscares to be scary (there are still several of them though). They rely on the music, the camera work, and so many other things to freak you out.
I dont usally like horror films or series, I dont get scared and the plot is always the same.
But this one...holyshit it was good. Best one I have ever seen.
Same with me. I find horror films mostly predictable, boring and without real content. This didn't have any of those flaws. Best in it's genre for me too.
I love that this show is terrifying, but not in a typical horror scary way. It is just so unnerving, sad and mysterious, keeps you on the edge of a seat.

I've never believed in ghosts, I'm sure it's just a brain issue. I've had leaves brush over my feet, and I was sure it was big spider, the brains plays tricks on you. BUT. When my kid was about 5, he had an issue with not wanting to sleep, and one night we asked him why he won't sleep, and he answered "Why do I have to go to sleep when he doesn't have to". And we asked who do you mean ? And he just pointed to an empty corner of the room. That shit got me rattled.
YESSSSS! Yo I swear this show is great. Hill House surprised me to be honest since I'm not so into horror, but this one is special y'all. The scare is so good, but the plot is great, the characters even better. This horrified me and broke my heart, and over all I was mind fucking blown. You're gonna enjoy this guys.
I'm so, so happy you guys are watching this! It's one of the best shows to have come out this year! You think you're just here for a scary ghost story and it turns out to be an intensely emotional family drama as well. It's more of an old-fashioned psychological ghost story than a modern jump scare type story. While the first episode had a quite a few jump scares it probably has the most of the whole series. They calm down as the real tension builds, so Nikki can rest easier. As BRIA said, keep an eye out for the hidden ghosts lurking around in the background. Fun fact: The young Hugh (Dad) is played by Henry Thomas who played Elliot in "E.T."
True Ghost Story Time with Sisnerdly:
So, everyone in my family thought our house was haunted. So much so, that my mom started keeping a journal of every strange event that occurred in the house. She logged everything from phantom static electricity to streaking balls of light.They experienced things moving and being found in weird places, banging noises, disembodied foot steps & general shuffling around the house, but upon investigating, no one was there. My mom also had terrible sleep paralysis in that house & only that house. It never happened to her before or since. The longer we lived there, the more people would experience these things at our house. Even our dog acted strangely sometimes. I had never experienced any of these things, seemed I was the only one who never saw or felt anything. I told everyone they were nuts. My sister & my mom would be afraid sometimes & I would just roll my eyes & be like "ugh, ya'll are crazy."
Then one day, I had a friend over, Frank. (I was like 17) Frank was standing in my room & we were talking. Suddenly, I saw him flinch & his eyes got wide. All the blood drained from his face, his mouth was dangling open & he just went all ridged for a second. I said "Frank, what;s wrong with you?" He didn't say a word. He just turned and walked out. I tried to call him later & he wouldn't answer me. I saw him the next day at school & he told me what happened. He said he was standing there looking at me while we were talking & he noticed something white moving behind me. He said his eyes focused on it & it looked like a white ball that was emitting it's own light, but it was moving back & forth behind me. He said it started to alter it's shape, he wasn't sure but he looked like it was shifting into a hand! The moment he realized what he was seeing was impossible, he went cold. He said he just couldn't speak right then to explain what he saw, so he just walked out. He was shook, to say the least. Frank & I remained friends for a long time but, he told me he would never return to my house (that house) & he never ever did.
Here's the clincher: Frank was a new friend in my life. He had no clue that our house was allegedly "haunted". He had no idea that other people had experienced anything like that in my house at all. So, his experience just corroborated everyone else's claims. Like I said, we remained friends for many many years, well into adulthood, & his story never changed. Anytime the subject of ghosts came up, he would declare himself a believer & retell the story to anyone who would listen. I still never experienced anything in that house, but I believe Frank's story 100%.

I also totally believe in ghosts. When I was about 12, if i woke up in the middle of the night I would see a guy dressed in a suit and a blonde lady dressed in a suit standing over me. The man wore sunglasses and the lady had no face.

Oh, and they hide ghosts in the shadows and sometimes in plain sight but blurred out in virtually every scene in the house itself, but unless you know where they lurk you'll miss them the fist time viewing (and they have specific ghosts for specific rooms and in the same location -- the creator even has backstories for all the ghosts). This show is amazing.
OH MAN THIS IS THE HAPPIEST IVE EVER BEEN! Haha. I beleive something is out there and i have seen things I cant explain with my own eyes. This show needs you to pay attention to everything. As for a ghost story, I don't have any personal experience, but my best friends dad told us something that stuck with me (especially because he's not one to mess around).
Basically, he said that he woke up one night and noticed that his bedroom door was cracked open. He looked up and said he saw a person with a motorcycle helmet staring in at him. He closed his eyes and when he opened them back up, it was gone.
The next morning he found out his twin brother had died in a motorcycle accident. I don't think I ever had so many goosebumps.

Middle of night... whatever :P Show is truly amazing, and either you believe in that kind of stuff or not, the show is a good depiction of what could happen when one traumatic episode from your childhood can weigh on your whole life... Whole season was about characters and how they growed up :)

All the questions you have get answered in later episodes...somewhat slowly.

Probably the reason most people are tense all the time is because you half see & half sense the ghosts in the background. You really have to rewatch some episodes but many scenes have hidden one's, lol. Sometimes a face, sometimes halfway through a door frame, it's just completely unnerving, like many others commented. The story, production & acting are just superb; at some point you might want to bring back the tissue box.

THIS SHOW WAS SO GOOD THE SCARY PARTS WERE GENUINELY CLASSICALLY SCARY BUT IT ALSO MADE ME FEEL A RANGE OF EMOTIONS
So glad you two are onto this show, there's so much more to it that just the Horror. It's a superb family drama, a tapestry that is slowly woven throughout the season. Nikki, you're probably gonna have a hard time with episode 2, but every one of the first 6 episodes has it's own horrors to tell.
This is one of my favourite shows of the year. It doesn't quite stick the landing, but it's so well written, acted and directed it's well worth your time. Enjoy!
This show is more like a family drama than an horror show in my opinion ; it's very emotional as you'll see ; there is maybe 2 "jump scare" in the entire show, the rest is heartbreaking and sad ; + the acting is stellar. So happy you are reacting to this great peace of television! :)
Everything you see and heard within this episode will all come together and make so much sense within the next 9 episodes. It will get more and more intense, especially emotionally. So I look forward to seeing more of your reactions to the next upcoming episodes!

Ahh so happy you are reacting to this show! I just finished watched it. SO GOOD!!! I believe that there is something out there for sure. Like people who have died checking in on you and see how you’re doing. In a nice way. When I was younger, I woke up one night and I saw my grandpa (who had died a few weeks earlier) standing in my doorway. He was smiling. The next morning I told my parents and they got real serious real fast because apparently my younger brother had woken them up that night because he had seen him too. It was creepy but at the same time, kinda sweet because I definitely think he wanted to make sure his grandchildren were ok ❤️

I used to get recurring nightmares/night terrors but have never seen a ghost.
My mum has though,when she used to live in a flat in Littleport,Ely. It was a young boy & he used to sit on the corner of her bed.She wasn't afraid of him. After some research,she believed the ghost to be of a kid who'd drowned in the ditch at the bottom of the garden many years previously.

Yes I believe there are things that can't be explained. I'll tell you two stories my mother's experience and my experience. My father had cancer when I was 15, during the end he was only comfortable on the couch. One night my mother was fixing his blankets and he got upset with her fussing and said "Don't touch me!". She went to bed sad and upset, and in the morning when she woke she heard a male voice say, "I'm sorry." She went downstairs and he had passed.
My story: In the same house probably a year later, I was in the basement alone and came up to the middle floor, none of the lights were on and it was dark out, and my dog was barking crazily. I walk into the living room (the same room my dad died in), and I see this dark mass in the corner next to the couch. My dog was just looking at this corner of the room barking like mad. Normally that corner is illuminated by the streetlight outside and you see the window pane shadows, but I couldn't see through the dark mass, and the more I looked at the bigger it seemed to get. The Lamp was pretty much right under the mass and I went for it, turned on the switch, and the light blew... I didn't look up, I just ran upstairs turning on every light on my way, locked myself in my room with my dog and waited till my brother got home.

When I first watched Hill House, I had to sleep with the lights on for a WEEK. But I fell in love with it and now I keep rewatching it.

You guys have watched like everything lol. This is one of the best shows Netflix ever put out, period. If you've ever read Shirley Jackson's novel, this show is such a lovingly done homage to that and a very, very well written and acted portrayal of trauma, loss, and human resilience. Perfectly casted, perfectly done.
Guys please stick with it. The show is amazingly well written and played. It's a great combination of horror and drama. But drama is the dominant one. A heartbreaking family tragedy with horror sauce on it. You're gonna love it.

I'm a pretty big scaredy cat myself but I didn't find this show to be too scary, some good jump scares and creepy imagery but not too bad. Really good show though.
I’m so freakin glad I’m not the only one! I got the SAME CHILLS AT THE EXACT SAME SCENE. I couldn’t explain it.
I'm an atheist and I don't believe in ghosts BUT coming from someone who has suffered night terrors as a child and has scared my mom half to death a lot as a child, this show expertly shows how it feels to wake up and see something there, I get the nightmare/terror feeling from a few moments in this show.
I still talk in my sleep but the night terrors I manage with "re-decoration" not even kidding from being 5 years old my doctors have always prescribed environment change to ease night terrors so I'm an expert decorator.
This show is "haunting" in that it gives you chills a lot and you get very attached to the family which makes it even scarier as it continues.
I have to binge watch the show now to keep up with you guys.
I believed in ghost but never thought I would see one. One day I was sitting on my bed and my cat joined me. I was painting my nails when suddenly the cat began to arch his back and hiss. I started to look up and saw pants and a coat (nothing from the ankle down) going down my hallway. I was too afraid to look up and see it's face. It kept moving on and soon my cat calmed down and resumed his place beside me. It is the one and only ghost I've seen and more than enough for a lifetime.

Im glad you decided to start this show. It was one hell of a ride for me. The family drama always got me on edge seriously. I hope you will pick up peaky blinders and the handmaid's tale for future schedule. Looking forward for more hill house episodes!

Whenever ghosts are brought up, my uncle always says that my great-great-grandparents were possessed. Mind you we're Arabs, so at the time this was in the middle of a desert village, in clay houses and people were super superstitious. He says he was downstairs crying over something and he heard a strange groaning, grunting sound. As he looks up, he sees his grandmother slowly lumbering down the stairs, her long black hair covering her face and the front of her body, speaking in a deep masculine voice, looking like those things from the grudge. His tears went straight back into his eyes and he skedaddled right out of there.

I´ve watched this video twice today, and I´ve seen the show. This is now the third time that last scene gives me chills. Such a haunting angst in the sound of her dead scream
The show is much more about family and how the events that happened in the house at the time affected the dynamics and their life as adults. It's worth it, some scares here and then but the story is beautiful.

This is my 2nd time watching your reaction of this. And I have watch the hill house a multiple times since ive been watching other reactions too. And It still Gives Me GOOSEBUMPS!! I'm watching this alone and in the dark hallway of the veranda.
And like Steven. I also am very skeptical, but this type of horror gets to me the most. Anything that can get into ones head, even though I know that I will never "see" anything. I sensation that I might see something is the absolute worst.

As far as personal experiences go, I did live in a small apartment at one time that was known to have weird stuff happen in it. For about a month whenever I would go to bed, something would walk across the foot of my bed, back and forth, every night. There was nothing there to see but yet it was happening. My feet were going up and down and I could feel that something was there. It kept me from going to sleep and I started to get super annoyed by it. Finally, one night I was at the end of my rope and I snapped and yelled "Will you please just stop it!!" And it stopped and it never happened again. After a while I kind of felt bad about that. Whatever it was, it seemed perfectly harmless and I had driven it away. That apartment is empty now and has been empty for years so, like Hill House, whatever walks there, walks alone. ;)
Here is a suggestion ! Do two videos in one day ! One show in Morning , one show in night. 😇🤞

So glad to see this show, its really well done and it's so good! I believe in ghosts, I don't remember it myself as I was about 3/4 at the time but I saw a ghost in my bedroom. I know it's true because my mum and grandmother both told me the exact same story separately. I came downstairs the next morning and told them I'd seen a man stood in my room and described him well enough for them to pull out a picture of my dad and it was him. I think I'd definitely be freaked out now if I saw one but I do believe.
When I m baby sitting for my niece's an nephew, and I go upstairs to check on them . And ...... There at the dark end of a dimly lit hallway .......is mmm .... My 8 yr old niece , in her nightgown , with her long dark hair tangling in front of her face . There she is standing frozen ........ Ok she's just not moving . I know who she is , I know what's happening , but everything inside me is screaming WTF ! is going on . If that irrational fear that I felt inside showed on my outside . My niece would be writing about how she got up to go to the bathroom one night, ....... And there at the other end of a dimly lit hallway ........ Stood her deranged aunt ......... Howling in fear ....! Lol . There have been sequels . 😱so happy you guys are doing this great surprise .
A sneaky touch is that ghosts frequently appear in the background of shots in Hill House but they never get noticed. They are reflected in window panes, standing in doorways - I never see them until I look at videos that show where they are. Then I find myself wondering how I could have possibly missed them. :D
