Yes, in every filmmaking aspect! The acting, cinematography, storytelling, soundtrack, everything. Add that one shot scene of 12-17m (I don’t remember), super underrated because people don’t like horror and the horror genre usually doesn’t get the love it deserves with some movies, shows and performance..”cough”..William Dafeo and Robert Pattinson in The Lighthouse) & Toni Collete in Hereditary. Bly Manor is not as good as Hill House but still good and now I started Midnight Mass. a lot of people doesn’t even know about it, but it’s the same creator and some of the same actors. I just finished ep3 and the show started VERY slow with a lot of plots but things are starting to make more sense and I heard good reviews, so let’s see!
@@reynaldolorenzo8409 I love both of those movies! I've also watched Hill House, but I haven't watched Bly Maynor. How different is it from Hill House?

You saw Theo when Steve left his room to check on Nell in the beginning of the episode. She asked if she should wake up mom and dad and Steve said he would handle it.

I don't normally get freaked out by horror, but there's a jump scare later in this series that got me so good, that I literally jumped out of my chair in fear. A rare example of a great one-season horror series. Everything about this is top notch.. you'll enjoy it quite a bit. Good story, acting, script, production.. the whole nine yards. It's very loosely based on a book by the same name. The book is a nice read, beautifully written by Shirley Jackson, but the show is scarier.

The wonderful Shirley Jackson wrote "The Haunting of Hill House" in 1959, one of the finest horror novels ever. This series takes little more than the name from that book, but considered as it's own thing it is very good. The great director Robert Wise made a much more faithful movie called "The Haunting" in 1963, in my opinion the creepiest ever made. You should watch that after finishing this series, it would be an interesting comparison. Don't bother with the 1999 remake though, it's utter garbage.
Yeah, I just left a comment above praising the original film. I need to reread the book again, too. It's been a long time since I read that one. I also need to watch the film "Shirley" with Elisabeth Moss playing Shirley Jackson.
This is one of the better shows I've seen in a while. If you removed the horror element from it, it would still be a great straight-up drama, that's why it works.
If you two manage to make it through the series in one piece, you might consider The Haunting of Bly Manor, a "second season" so to speak, but in the spirit of American Horror Story, it features much of the same cast playing different characters in a different haunting scenario. Not as good as Hill House, but worthy.
@@synthetic240 I think each character from each season is done incredibly well. I don't think it's fair to compare them because they're different genres honestly. Yeah, this is a fantastic show and definitely terrifying (one of the biggest jump scares of all time is in this series) but you'll also want tissues ready towards the end because it's really emotional as it dives more into the themes of family trauma and grief. The writing and editing as they jump back and forth through the timelines as the story advances is amazing. Billy Maximoff from Wandavision is in this as young Luke. I think the actors mom is in this too, but I don't know who. I'd watch it, but I'm a scaredy cat.
This is hands down the best who ever produced.
I'm really excited that you're watching this show. One of the best horror series as well as probably the best family drama of the past decade.
I'm a very jumpy person and this was very hard for me to watch. I would have stopped 2 or 3 episodes in except the storytelling is so great and I had to at least understand why it was happening. I am so glad I made it through it. It was totally worth it. This is my first reaction of yours and I loved it. I'll be looking for more of your reactions.
Definitely subscribed now lol. I reacted really similarly when I first watched this it was brilliantly written and translated well from books to a tv show. This will blow your mind and the way they pace time is basically “wibbly wobbly timey wimey.”
I adore this series, so it's always nice seeing people react to it, and wow you two are fantastic! Loved this first reaction. The attention to the plot, how jumpy you are (this sounds so mean, but it's funny because I GET IT haha), and your theories. It feels like I entered a time capsule to when I first watched it, but it's also fun to have the benefit of hindsight now. Thank you for reacting to Hill House! So fun! Subscribed!
Keep your eyes open for the backround. Super creepy stuff...
Such a great series! So glad that y'all are experiencing this. You guys are jumpy already and it was only episode 1. 😂 In your defense, there are some good scares. So excited to watch this (again) with you. Buckle up! 👻
I'm not familiar with this mini series but the opening voice over reminded me so much of my favorite Halloween movie called "The Haunting" made in 1963 based on the same novel as the mini series. It is a very suspenseful and scary movie without showing a single drop of blood or a monster. Highly recommend. Skip the 1999 remake. It was awful.
I occasionally check in on this channel from time to time and just checked in to see you've just uploaded the last part. Guess I've got some viewing to do tonight, so looking forward to this, this show is a masterpiece.
I watched this miniseries in two days, watching it at night and home alone - it was wonderfully terrifying.
Love this show. One of the scariest shows in my opinion combined with a very emotional family drama.
lol. I was going to say binge this one so that details remain fresh in your mind as each episode unfolds. Also, whenever they are in the house keep an eye out for things lurking in the background. It's a scary, sometimes terrifying, but ultimately rewarding viewing experience.
