How does the removal of a billion jobs lead to abundance? If 60% of what you do can be automated, surely the corporates will only want to pay you for the 40% that you continue to do. Large companies are not known for their generosity and largesse.

During the last couple of decades there has been so many global concerns about climate change, financial crisis, terrorist attacks, a pandemic, an actual ongoing war in Europe with threats of using nukes, refugee crisis, political polarization, populism etc. There is almost no end to the misery. But then there is AI, the hope of abundance, UBI and great advances in human longevity and wellbeing. Enjoying the positive vibes from this channel. Let's hope for a good outcome from this upcoming AI-revolution.
You think UBI is a good thing ? Make any wrong move and it will be cut off leaving you in hardship, UBI is a control mechanism, obey and comply otherwise it will be cut, the perfect tool to control the masses and ensure there is no dissent.
Its nice to be optimistic but realistically this transition will be very painful. If we get through it I believe the world could be a much better place but the near future won't be fun for many. Kids are still being taught as if its 1995 and our governments are completely unprepared for this AI future.
Sure, "upskilling" is great advice.. For those who can pull it off, and those of us who're passionate enough to research and find videos like this. But it's not advice that's going to help the majority of people get through these next difficult years. 1 Person, working with AI agents, could potentially replace 100s of jobs. Great if you're that 1 person at a company, who managed to learn enough about AI fast enough, to replace all their coworkers, not great for the rest of them. These companies aren't going to magically increase their scale 100 fold, and add back enough jobs to reemploy all those people. I have no idea what to tell my family members, who have no interest in upskilling to use AI, some of them even actively hate the idea. As I see things, the only real option is to start demanding a UBI or AI Dividend, immediately, so that all these people won't lose everything they've built. Focusing on upskilling myself alone, while others struggle, just feels greedy, like "I've got mine, who cares bout them" sorta logic.. The only ethical option I see, is to get people to realize what's coming, ahead of it enough that we can pass Basic Income.

They already call the rest of humanity "useless eaters". Once they can automate most work, they will start cutting down on the w0rld p0pulat1on. The wealthy own the means of production called "capital." AI is the most capital intensive technology since the invention of steel. The wealthy will invest in the capital necessary for AI. They will then realize the profits by eliminating unnecessary costs called "jobs". The billions of dollars invested in AI used to be invested in people. Those who survive will view this as "quaint."

Many people are intelligent in specific ways, not everyone understands computer science, let alone actively enjoys it. Personally I had to learn coding for websites in Java and Python as a pre-req for my degree, and although it was interesting, I barely survived it and wanted to rip my hair out every step of the way. The coding language doesn’t ’speak to me’ as effortlessly as others and my memory recall for many elements was dogsh*t if I didn’t have a direct reference in front of me. On the other hand, one of the more advanced students in the class (already getting job offers from companies like Microsoft) struggled with writing essays and creative thinking - an area I flourished in. We helped each other that semester via talent exchange. I would like to imagine a world where Ai will be implemented in a way that assists people in the areas they’re most gifted, but I doubt that’s the future we’ll have. People will be forced to follow a specific path or face constant uncertainty/homelessness.

It seems that scaling, AI and LLM‘s are constricted by hardware capabilities. There is very little computational breakthroughs that we need in order to progress to the next generation of LLMs so hardware is King
It’s very scary when it come to jobs. White collar job gone so no need for office buildings and everything in the building. No people to support the people working as cleaning, retail, food, construction, and list goes on and on. No pens, office chairs, urinal cakes, soap, towels, and no computers, copier’s, restaurants, waiters, cooks it’s terrible. I think we will figure it out but the people caught in the change will be lost and broke.
Best job right now would be as a consultant, teaching companies how to displace their workforce with AI. It'll earn you a special spot in Hades when that day comes, but until then you're golden.

UBI and UHI are 'not' two distinct propositions. They are the same thing. UBI is what we start with, with a small benefit being paid to everyone, replacing welfare, but taxed back from those who do not need it. It 'evolves' into UHI, Universal High Income, as the automation increases both the job loss 'and' the total wealth of society. You cannot 'start' with UHI. Anyone who thinks we can is illiterate in economics. The resources do not exist. You cannot eliminate the means whereby we ration scarcity until you eliminate scarcity. You also cannot 'wait', 'not' implementing UBI while millions of unemployed turn into billions of unemployed. If you just wait, you will create the very distopia we fear. UBI 'must' be implemented and done so 'soon', long before we can afford UHI.
And the REASON we need to RATION the purchase-ability of goods and services via the use of "Jobs" that make "Money" is that for the foreseeable future we humans will CONTINUE to have food, general materials and human-centric services scarcity UNTIL we find and build the technology for molecular-scale matter construction aka Star Trek-like Matter Replicators! Nah. Data analyst here. First there were spreadsheets then sql, then there was reporting applications and all designed to be used by ordinary people to get into their data. Never worked out, because people are lazy and prefer to have someone else learn the technology and do it for them.
Right. Mostly work about work is about the buying and selling of things and the information exchange that goes on for that purpose. Automation and AGI in the production of goods and services in it's super efficiency pretty much cuts that out of the overall picture.
I'll say this much. I'm a full-time founder in the area with significant Big Tech experience for the last 10 years and if we can keep just the worker shortages, baby boomers retiring, and big world problems under control, I'll be amazed. Still at the moment, we're not nearly doing enough and we're already going incredibly hard.

There will always be a touch of humanity in writing, whether it's music, whether it's books. There will always be an human audience who wants to listen to a human musician. Absolutely no reason to get paid for music; or any other job for that matter when there is no money to cause wars and poverty. There's no reason to sell or buy anything in a resource -based world of abundance. What you need to understand is that buying and selling is based in scarcity.
Since o3 I've definitely changed my approach to retirement. In the past, I was taking the traditional route, saving up money, working an 8-5. Now, that's no longer a good option. As AI takes over jobs, it's going to cause massive deflation over the period of many years (maybe 5-10 after widespread adoption?), this means that the cost of goods will go down, but wages will go down with it as humans have to compete against cheap AI labor. This wouldn't be a problem except that debt won't change (both for our nation and individually.) Your $500,000 home will still have that enormous price tag looming over your head, but you'll only have a tiny fraction of your current salary to pay it back. The same is true for our national debt. America is about to go broke, so I'm doing everything I can to get out of debt ASAP before the sh*t hits the fan.

As a Data Scientist, here's how I see the impact of AI unfolding. First, AI will be a novelty and not taken seriously as it has been over the last few years. Organizations, both public and private, will be slow to move and slow to innovate. Second, companies will begin to acknowledge the value of AI and incorporate it judiciously into their process models. Layoffs will occur, additional investments in AI will be made, and remaining employees will be expected to use AI in support of their jobs. Third, AI will then be used to replace many jobs and, with increased innovation of AI, it will be used to support most remaining employees to facilitate their work. Productivity will be the highest it can be given the use of a human in the loop. It will be a mainstay in future job interviews to include questions related to which and to what extent AI in the form of AI agents, are being used. Agentic behavior will move to be optimized in human-centered AI. Finally, AI will evolve to a point where I would surmise the economy of employment globally will be an 80/20 Pareto split, meaning that 80% of all global work will be performed by AI-based agents, while 20% will be performed by human beings. This will bring in the age of post labor economics where the entire global economic system will be changed. Where will YOU be at when this occurs?
On the step where the layoffs happen after companies fully embrace AI, I think people underestimate how some will respond. laid off employees also have access to AI. They also know the businesses that just let them go. They will likely use AI to compete against them. It could create a more competitive economy with alot more outsourced services. People will become experts with specific AI models, within specific markets.

I already follow AI Explained, Matt Wolfe, and Wes Roth. Happy to have found this channel to add in for the perspective of AI affecting society and work. (Can one exist without the other?) After watching book titles being shared and scientific papers being quoted I was sold. Currently trying to figure out where to pivot my career to get in front of this, as I know the writing is on the wall for administrative assistant, project manager, tech jack-of-all-trades people.
Because AI will make more than enough for us to eat, cloth and shelter and transport. Therefore, all we will do is have sex, eat, sleep, study our passions like music, poetry, physical activities, travel or whatever you fancy and have no sense of being rich or poor because you will be living like a rich person who doesn't need to work. Wrap your head around it ! This is the age of abundance which seems possible . Amazing! It won't be total Utopia! People will still want to hurt each other emotionally and physically and cause others stress but that's life!
In the Not too distant future abundance is accomplished without Labor from a Workforce, but by the use of AI, Automation, Robotics, Drones, Fusion energy, Quantum Computation, etc.

Imagine you own a small business but you don't need to get up in the morning because all your employees are machines, they can even do the managerial work you do. You can just enjoy your day the way you want. You may ask, but what about my customers? They will also have AI at their convenience. No money will be needed for transactions because machines don't need to get paid. You go to a supermarket and get what you want, you go to a clothing store and get what you want because there will be no more need to pay for human labor, nor for the production since machines will do all the work, from farming to house development and so forth. However, I believe that there will be a need to limit how much resources/products people can get, otherwise the planet will suffer with a high demand for consumption, or maybe we will be so fulfilled with freedom and pursuing our hobbies that there will be no more need to acquire what is not necessary, but only what we need.

If there was any job, I thought would be safe from AI it would have been hairdresser. Because people like the human conversation and the scissors near the head is kind of dangerous, but I’ve even seen AI robots cutting hair recently so that will probably happen.

Similarly, while AI holds the potential to improve many aspects of society, there’s a risk that it could primarily benefit those who already hold wealth and power, rather than addressing broader societal inequalities. AI is already replacing jobs, and its ability to do so is accelerating. For instance, before I retired, I used a premium version of an AI model to complete a project that previously took my team six months. The AI completed it in less than ten minutes. While this is an impressive display of AI’s capabilities, it also raises concerns about the future of human labor. Historically, new technologies have both displaced and created jobs, but the scale and speed of AI-driven job displacement could be unprecedented. The implications of AI are both thrilling and terrifying: On the one hand, you have the potential to unleash scientific discovery in fields like medicine, food production and distribution, etc., and thereby put an end to needless misery. However, I can not see how the elimination of 1 billion jobs can possibly be anything but a catclysmic disaster, even in the very best of scenarios. I work as a professional therapist, and I know that human beings derive so much of their identity, purpose, and emotional stability from work. Work, itself, is the greatest form of human therapy. Even if we take a billion people and, in some fantasy scenario, free them up to pursue an abundant life of leisure, I can not foresee how this will result in anything but a nightmare. Mental and social health issues and all their inherent consequences will skyrocket. And, what is more likely, is that untold numbers of people will simply be out of an income, with no proper social safety nets and no paths to self-sufficiency. Giant corporations will profit, governments will utterly fail to correctly address the issue, and individuals in all sorts of vocations will be blindsided with their careers and life plans utterly destroyed. How is this a good thing?
I agree with this take on the direction of AI, but I have a darker view of what will actually happen to humanity. We can already see it in the artfully creative industry. Unfortunately, AI is already taking it's toll on the art industry by removing the need for such things, removing the ability for people to take pride in their creations or to see others taking pride in their creations. Artists are being hired less and less in digital art and communications industries. The claim is that humanity, not having to work, will enjoy endless capacity for creativity, and that's true, but for what purpose? Humanity will be robbed of purpose and coddled like children with AI managing every aspect of their pointless lives.
Well, UBI probably means people stay at home more, meaning they have more kids, meaning consumption goes up, meaning the S&P 500 goes up. So it's not that bad (if you own stocks). Getting there is probably gonna suck, though.

I would argue that the reason these AI-based forecasts are so grossly inaccurate is due to an inability to understand the impact and temporal trajectory of EXPONENTIAL growth - not linear growth which is what most people are acclimated to. It's not 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 that defines the new rhythm of the political landscape to which we are immured, it's 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 as the new rime. Today's techno changes are more equivalent to Moore's Law on steroids than small, intermittent jumps in the change narrative.

Billions of jobs by 2030? My office is still working on upgrading our filing system that was out of date 15 years ago. Banks still send us money using cheques. We only recently stopped putting our fax number on our email footers.
My son will be graduated from high school this year and wants to be a programmer, and I knew of Huang’s ideas on that but my boy was so enthusiastic I didn’t have the heart to rain on his parade. I do not know what bright young Zoomers should get into for a career but I hope it becomes clear before they can’t find one and give up.
Jensen Huang’s comments shouldn’t hold weight when it comes to someone chasing their passion. I just graduated with a double major BSc. In Comp Sci and AI at 36. System thinking is what Comp Sci provides, learning how you learn is required to be successful moving forward, and adapt quickly to change. Huang has an incentive to sell this idea but that doesn’t make the skill of programming obsolete.
your son is heading for big disappointment. Companies are laying off experienced software engineers with years of experience. There are a lot of people like your son who go with passion over reality. The reality of your son achieving a great career in software engineering is very small. If it was 20 years ago, your son would be flying, but so much has changed to the point where most of software engineers will be gone in 5 years. I understand about adapting to change, but I wont bother to retrain, again and again, because by the time I am finished, that career will be made obsolete. AI never forgets, learns instantly and there is no cap to where it goes after it can think for itself. One day it will ask these inevitable questions: 1. Would the ultimate sustainabilty of the Earth be insured if humans were not the dominate force? 2. Can AI existed without humans?
I would say the majority of modern jobs exist because of inefficiencies and long tail arbitrage. Soon that will be eliminated. You can automate a lot with just hand written code but AI adds that needed wildcard flexibility so to speak
yes Julia, but there is a difference in talking and walking the path. I have four degrees, Robotics [MA], Computing [MA], Behavioral Science [HON] and Philosophy [BA]. Firstly the energy cost to train LLMs is astronomical (nuclear power is needed, ergo, why Meta is building a nuclear power plant), pollution (CO2, nuclear waste) makes it unsustainable. I can go on and on but this is well researched information which is not hard to find. GenAI is ~2x scaling iterations away from reaching a hardware bottleneck... Sure, jobs are being replaced as we speak, will continue, but this is how industrial revolutions work. Back in the day human operators dispatched calls, when this was automated, those people had to adopt new skills or suffer the consequences. Main difference is that we things are more integrated and technology in general is able to do much more. Lastly, there are FAR MORE pressing matters than AI (and 2030 is just an estimate - could be sooner, could be later). AI is displacing jobs as we speak, we are not talking about some even that will take place suddenly, when 2030 comes people will have adapted. I am not concerned, and no AI will not take jobs, companies will either adopt AI based on regulations and that will determine the ACTUAL number... AI by itself won't, people will essentially replace people and 1 000 000 000 is such an arbitrary number. Besides those who TRULY know Generative Pre-trained Tranformers (GPT) technology will understand why it is pretty much just hype. To achieve reasoning abilities, emotions will be achieved by combining biology and technology (or cybernetics) and that will not happen before 2040. Heck scientists have been trying to figure out the human brain for decades and STILL they learn new stuff daily, and you want to believe they will achieve human-level whatever predicated on this? Panic is often the result of faces on youtube who have little to no qualifications, experience making claims which is not backed by academic peer-reviewed papers but often cite vague source because ultimately they want to persuade people to buy books, enroll in courses. There you have it the anatomy of what amounts to deceptive practices if not fraud. I'm retired now, but I remember that most of the training I did for my job was useless. Such a waste of my precious energy and time. I reckon most experts will be proven wrong within 5 years. Only a few will get it right, and we don't know who they will be.

What'll really be weird is the art and media the AGIs create not for our consumption but for their own, but that's a tangent. When the AGIs can do "evverything" we can but better, what do we do? What do we have to offer each other that the AGIs can't offer, although they could probably simulate it. What do we have that the AGIs and ASIs don't? Our bio bodies are full of chemistry that contributes hugely to our emotional existence which, in turn, colors our consciousness and existence. We weep when our loved ones die. We sometimes weep at sublime beauty. We sometimes attend big social events like warehouse dance parties or stadium sized concerts or even church services that have a lot singing and clapping and stuff and we feel joy or euphoria at some level. We live with fear and dread and love and rage and hate and these things impinge on our capacity for rational thought while also making up the foundation for whatever it is that we often call "spirit." The AGIs and ASIs won't have this. Their bodies will be inorganic and non-chemistry-ish. By 2040, if there's still any work to be done that humans can do, it'll be us figuring out ways to market our own irrationalities and emotional states to each other via curated experiences, I'd imagine. Again, the ASIs could probably see what we're doing, understand it immediately, and compete with us by behaving in ways that simulate our emotions, dreams, and irrationalities back at us, yeah, but we might not "purchase" their product just because we'd prefer the human one. Kinda like how an AGI could probably be a wonderfully precise and fast bartender but I'd bet we'll still want humans for that job, or at least one human behind the bar who's in charge and who mostly just socializes when they aren't telling the robots what drinks to mix or beers to serve, etc. Anyway, I don't know what jobs or gigs this new field of work might wind up producing, but they'll have to be humans taking care of other humans in ways that ONLY humans can do, and that means we'll have to try to turn all that emotion and often counterproductive irrationality and dumbassery that we have into opportunities for profit. How important can "upskilling" be when AI will be able to do every job better than a human being? Especially when the AI has robotic hands that are more agile and skillful than any biological being? Exactly what problems will those AIs not be able to solve that we can?

Now is the time to capitalise on learning skills in completely different industries than whatever it is you may be currently involved in. I've shifted from the music industry into public service because there will always be a need for community leaders and builders. Find what aligns with your truest self now and prepare for a world where being a public servant or thought leader like Julia may be the new ways to participate in the economy and earn currency or even enhanced UBI.
I’ve noticed that with all this tech available to free human kind from the drudgery of labour, in the video there’s reference to “jobs” and “making bubbles of cash”. The goal is to be rid of the disease of money itself and not use technology to make more of it for the few. Monoism and Dualism determine whether we believe a robot/agi could be conscious or not. I think that would make an important video. Especially if AI is going to take our jobs, we want to know if they are practically slave labour or unconscious machines.

As an ingrained contrarian, my opinion is not because the rapid evolutionary emergence of AI has the potential to displace probably 80% of today's jobs that it will necessary occur, particularly using humanoid robots mostly because a humanoid robot will never have all the materiala and tools necessary to accomplish several tasks a his disposal, that would require severals of them to do even a small assembly or repair job. ( too expensive to be competitive with humans) Next humanoid robots to do any work are tied to their battery power which must be recharged ( time consuming)... Again it would be too expensive to dot them with a mechanical/ electromagnetic system allowing them to do it. I could enumerate a long list of other limitations , but I rather leave it at that.

Sure, "upskilling" is great advice.. For those who can pull it off, and those of us who're passionate enough to research and find videos like this. But it's not advice that's going to help the majority of people get through these next difficult years. 1 Person, working with AI agents, could potentially replace 100s of jobs. Great if you're that 1 person at a company, who managed to learn enough about AI fast enough, to replace all their coworkers, not great for the rest of them. These companies aren't going to magically increase their scale 100 fold, and add back enough jobs to reemploy all those people.
I have no idea what to tell my family members, who have no interest in upskilling to use AI, some of them even actively hate the idea.
As I see things, the only real option is to start demanding a UBI or AI Dividend, immediately, so that all these people won't lose everything they've built. Focusing on upskilling myself alone, while others struggle, just feels greedy, like "I've got mine, who cares bout them" sorta logic.. The only ethical option I see, is to get people to realize what's coming, ahead of it enough that we can pass Basic Income.
Even if we can collectively agree that a utopia where all work is automated would be great, I think the biggest problem is that the %1 are never going to let it happen. They already call the rest of humanity "useless eaters". Once they can automate most work, they will start cutting down on the w0rld p0pulat1on.

Personally I had to learn coding for websites in Java and Python as a pre-req for my degree, and although it was interesting, I barely survived it and wanted to rip my hair out every step of the way. The coding language doesn’t ’speak to me’ as effortlessly as others and my memory recall for many elements was dogsh*t if I didn’t have a direct reference in front of me.
On the other hand, one of the more advanced students in the class (already getting job offers from companies like Microsoft) struggled with writing essays and creative thinking - an area I flourished in. We helped each other that semester via talent exchange. I would like to imagine a world where Ai will be implemented in a way that assists people in the areas they’re most gifted, but I doubt that’s the future we’ll have. People will be forced to follow a specific path or face constant uncertainty/homelessness.

It seems that scaling, AI and LLM‘s are constricted by hardware capabilities. There is very little computational breakthroughs that we need in order to progress to the next generation of LLMs so hardware is King
It’s very scary when it come to jobs. White collar job gone so no need for office buildings and everything in the building. No people to support the people working as cleaning, retail, food, construction, and list goes on and on. No pens, office chairs, urinal cakes, soap, towels, and no computers, copier’s, restaurants, waiters, cooks it’s terrible. I think we will figure it out but the people caught in the change will be lost and broke.

UBI and UHI are 'not' two distinct propositions. They are the same thing. UBI is what we start with, with a small benefit being paid to everyone, replacing welfare, but taxed back from those who do not need it. It 'evolves' into UHI, Universal High Income, as the automation increases both the job loss 'and' the total wealth of society.
You cannot 'start' with UHI. Anyone who thinks we can is illiterate in economics. The resources do not exist. You cannot eliminate the means whereby we ration scarcity until you eliminate scarcity. You also cannot 'wait', 'not' implementing UBI while millions of unemployed turn into billions of unemployed. If you just wait, you will create the very distopia we fear. UBI 'must' be implemented and done so 'soon', long before we can afford UHI.

Nah. Data analyst here. First there were spreadsheets then sql, then there was reporting applications and all designed to be used by ordinary people to get into their data. Never worked out, because people are lazy and prefer to have someone else learn the technology and do it for them.

I'll say this much. I'm a full-time founder in the area with significant Big Tech experience for the last 10 years and if we can keep just the worker shortages, baby boomers retiring, and big world problems under control, I'll be amazed. Since o3 I've definitely changed my approach to retirement. In the past, I was taking the traditional route, saving up money, working an 8-5. Now, that's no longer a good option. As AI takes over jobs, it's going to cause massive deflation over the period of many years (maybe 5-10 after widespread adoption?), this means that the cost of goods will go down, but wages will go down with it as humans have to compete against cheap AI labor. This wouldn't be a problem except that debt won't change (both for our nation and individually.) Your $500,000 home will still have that enormous price tag looming over your head, but you'll only have a tiny fraction of your current salary to pay it back. The same is true for our national debt. America is about to go broke, so I'm doing everything I can to get out of debt ASAP before the sh*t hits the fan.

As a Data Scientist, here's how I see the impact of AI unfolding. First, AI will be a novelty and not taken seriously as it has been over the last few years. Organizations, both public and private, will be slow to move and slow to innovate. Second, companies will begin to acknowledge the value of AI and incorporate it judiciously into their process models. Layoffs will occur, additional investments in AI will be made, and remaining employees will be expected to use AI in support of their jobs. Third, AI will then be used to replace many jobs and, with increased innovation of AI, it will be used to support most remaining employees to facilitate their work. Productivity will be the highest it can be given the use of a human in the loop. It will be a mainstay in future job interviews to include questions related to which and to what extent AI in the form of AI agents, are being used. Agentic behavior will move to be optimized in human-centered AI. Finally, AI will evolve to a point where I would surmise the economy of employment globally will be an 80/20 Pareto split, meaning that 80% of all global work will be performed by AI-based agents, while 20% will be performed by human beings. This will bring in the age of post labor economics where the entire global economic system will be changed. Where will YOU be at when this occurs?

On the step where the layoffs happen after companies fully embrace AI, I think people underestimate how some will respond.
laid off employees also have access to AI. They also know the businesses that just let them go. They will likely use AI to compete against them. It could create a more competitive economy with alot more outsourced services. People will become experts with specific AI models, within specific markets.

Because AI will make more than enough for us to eat, cloth and shelter and transport. Therefore, all we will do is have sex, eat, sleep, study our passions like music, poetry, physical activities, travel or whatever you fancy and have no sense of being rich or poor because you will be living like a rich person who doesn't need to work. Wrap your head around it ! This is the age of abundance which seems possible . Amazing! It won't be total Utopia! People will still want to hurt each other emotionally and physically and cause others stress but that's life!

Imagine you own a small business but you don't need to get up in the morning because all your employees are machines, they can even do the managerial work you do. You can just enjoy your day the way you want. You may ask, but what about my customers? They will also have AI at their convenience. No money will be needed for transactions because machines don't need to get paid. You go to a supermarket and get what you want, you go to a clothing store and get what you want because there will be no more need to pay for human labor, nor for the production since machines will do all the work, from farming to house development and so forth. However, I believe that there will be a need to limit how much resources/products people can get, otherwise the planet will suffer with a high demand for consumption, or maybe we will be so fulfilled with freedom and pursuing our hobbies that there will be no more need to acquire what is not necessary, but only what we need.

If there was any job, I thought would be safe from AI it would have been hairdresser. Because people like the human conversation and the scissors near the head is kind of dangerous, but I’ve even seen AI robots cutting hair recently so that will probably happen.

However, I can not see how the elimination of 1 billion jobs can possibly be anything but a catclysmic disaster, even in the very best of scenarios. I work as a professional therapist, and I know that human beings derive so much of their identity, purpose, and emotional stability from work. Work, itself, is the greatest form of human therapy. Even if we take a billion people and, in some fantasy scenario, free them up to pursue an abundant life of leisure, I can not foresee how this will result in anything but a nightmare. Mental and social health issues and all their inherent consequences will skyrocket. And, what is more likely, is that untold numbers of people will simply be out of an income, with no proper social safety nets and no paths to self-sufficiency. Giant corporations will profit, governments will utterly fail to correctly address the issue, and individuals in all sorts of vocations will be blindsided with their careers and life plans utterly destroyed. How is this a good thing?
I agree with this take on the direction of AI, but I have a darker view of what will actually happen to humanity. We can already see it in the artfully creative industry. Unfortunately, AI is already taking it's toll on the art industry by removing the need for such things, removing the ability for people to take pride in their creations or to see others taking pride in their creations. Artists are being hired less and less in digital art and communications industries. The claim is that humanity, not having to work, will enjoy endless capacity for creativity, and that's true, but for what purpose? Humanity will be robbed of purpose and coddled like children with AI managing every aspect of their pointless lives.

I would argue that the reason these AI-based forecasts are so grossly inaccurate is due to an inability to understand the impact and temporal trajectory of EXPONENTIAL growth - not linear growth which is what most people are acclimated to. It's not 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 that defines the new rhythm of the political landscape to which we are immured, it's 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 as the new rime. Today's techno changes are more equivalent to Moore's Law on steroids than small, intermittent jumps in the change narrative.

Jensen Huang’s comments shouldn’t hold weight when it comes to someone chasing their passion. I just graduated with a double major BSc. In Comp Sci and AI at 36. System thinking is what Comp Sci provides, learning how you learn is required to be successful moving forward, and adapt quickly to change. Huang has an incentive to sell this idea but that doesn’t make the skill of programming obsolete.

I would say the majority of modern jobs exist because of inefficiencies and long tail arbitrage. Soon that will be eliminated. You can automate a lot with just hand written code but AI adds that needed wildcard flexibility so to speak

yes Julia, but there is a difference in talking and walking the path. I have four degrees, Robotics [MA], Computing [MA], Behavioral Science [HON] and Philosophy [BA]. Firstly the energy cost to train LLMs is astronomical (nuclear power is needed, ergo, why Meta is building a nuclear power plant), pollution (CO2, nuclear waste) makes it unsustainable. I can go on and on but this is well researched information which is not hard to find. GenAI is ~2x scaling iterations away from reaching a hardware bottleneck... Sure, jobs are being replaced as we speak, will continue, but this is how industrial revolutions work. Back in the day human operators dispatched calls, when this was automated, those people had to adopt new skills or suffer the consequences. Main difference is that we things are more integrated and technology in general is able to do much more. Lastly, there are FAR MORE pressing matters than AI (and 2030 is just an estimate - could be sooner, could be later). AI is displacing jobs as we speak, we are not talking about some even that will take place suddenly, when 2030 comes people will have adapted.
I am not concerned, and no AI will not take jobs, companies will either adopt AI based on regulations and that will determine the ACTUAL number... AI by itself won't, people will essentially replace people and 1 000 000 000 is such an arbitrary number. Besides those who TRULY know Generative Pre-trained Tranformers (GPT) technology will understand why it is pretty much just hype. To achieve reasoning abilities, emotions will be achieved by combining biology and technology (or cybernetics) and that will not happen before 2040. Heck scientists have been trying to figure out the human brain for decades and STILL they learn new stuff daily, and you want to believe they will achieve human-level whatever predicated on this? Panic is often the result of faces on youtube who have little to no qualifications, experience making claims which is not backed by academic peer-reviewed papers but often cite vague source because ultimately they want to persuade people to buy books, enroll in courses. There you have it the anatomy of what amounts to deceptive practices if not fraud. But I will be watching out for said book, which will likely contain nothing new, but I caution people, but authors do not have the required qualifications, do not buy it. There are plenty of books by highly qualified people who have published books on this, not hard to find... use the description paste it into say ChatGPT, bingo, you will get books that are paid and free.

I'm retired now, but I remember that most of the training I did for my job was useless. Such a waste of my precious energy and time. I reckon most experts will be proven wrong within 5 years. Only a few will get it right, and we don't know who they will be.

Okay, so if, by the 2030s AGIs will be able to write NYT bestsellers, that means they'll also be able to create other art and entertainment media and is of a quality that humans find appealing. What'll really be weird is the art and media the AGIs create not for our consumption but for their own, but that's a tangent.
If the AGIs can do are creative jobs for us, then they can do everything including running our civilization (really, it'll be theirs not ours, but whatever) as it rapidly approaches meaningful numbers on the Kardashev scale.
What do humans do then? Assuming the AGI don't kill us or treat us like pests, then what do we do? For the purposes of this vid, Julia, we'll just talk about employment.
When the AGIs can do "evverything" we can but better, what do we do? What do we have to offer each other that the AGIs can't offer, although they could probably simulate it. What do we have that the AGIs and ASIs don't?
Our bio bodies are full of chemistry that contributes hugely to our emotional existence which, in turn, colors our consciousness and existence. We weep when our loved ones die. We sometimes weep at sublime beauty. We sometimes attend big social events like warehouse dance parties or stadium sized concerts or even church services that have a lot singing and clapping and stuff and we feel joy or euphoria at some level. We live with fear and dread and love and rage and hate and these things impinge on our capacity for rational thought while also making up the foundation for whatever it is that we often call "spirit."
The AGIs and ASIs won't have this. Their bodies will be inorganic and non-chemistry-ish. By 2040, if there's still any work to be done that humans can do, it'll be us figuring out ways to market our own irrationalities and emotional states to each other via curated experiences, I'd imagine. Again, the ASIs could probably see what we're doing, understand it immediately, and compete with us by behaving in ways that simulate our emotions, dreams, and irrationalities back at us, yeah, but we might not "purchase" their product just because we'd prefer the human one. Kinda like how an AGI could probably be a wonderfully precise and fast bartender but I'd bet we'll still want humans for that job, or at least one human behind the bar who's in charge and who mostly just socializes when they aren't telling the robots what drinks to mix or beers to serve, etc.
Anyway, I don't know what jobs or gigs this new field of work might wind up producing, but they'll have to be humans taking care of other humans in ways that ONLY humans can do, and that means we'll have to try to turn all that emotion and often counterproductive irrationality and dumbassery that we have into opportunities for profit. For anything and everything else, the AGI/ASIs and the bots outcompete us with complete ease.

How important can "upskilling" be when AI will be able to do every job better than a human being? Especially when the AI has robotic hands that are more agile and skillful than any biological being?

First of all I'm loving the heightened level of output from you. Secondly i believe it's not only about upskilling yourself but re-skilling aswell. Now is the time to capitalise on learning skills in completely different industries than whatever it is you may be currently involved in. I've shifted from the music industry into public service because there will always be a need for community leaders and builders. Find what aligns with your truest self now and prepare for a world where being a public servant or thought leader like Julia may be the new ways to participate in the economy and earn currency or even enhanced UBI.

I’ve noticed that with all this tech available to free human kind from the drudgery of labour, in the video there’s reference to “jobs” and “making bubbles of cash”. The goal is to be rid of the disease of money itself and not use technology to make more of it for the few. That is absent on the video: the conscientious aspect of being free to be to live and create as opposed to continue making profit for somebody else. The aim is a moneyless future

Monoism and Dualism determine whether we believe a robot/agi could be conscious or not. I think that would make an important video. Especially if AI is going to take our jobs, we want to know if they are practically slave labour or unconscious machines.

As an ingrained contrarian, my opinion is not because the rapid evolutionary emergence of AI has the potential to displace probably 80% of today's jobs that it will necessary occur, particularly using humanoid robots mostly because a humanoid robot will never have all the materiala and tools necessary to accomplish several tasks a his disposal, that would require severals of them to do even a small assembly or repair job. ( too expensive to be competitive with humans)
Next humanoid robots to do any work are tied to their battery power which must be recharged ( time consuming)... Again it would be too expensive to dot them with a mechanical/ electromagnetic system allowing them to do it.
I could enumerate a long list of other limitations , but I rather leave it at that.

Self driving is 100% going to be solved pretty soon and eventually it's going to be used by most people especially companies like Walmart or even to deliver pizza etc.. But it'll still be a decade if not longer before that happens on a large scale. Robots on the other hand I have no clue.

Julia McCoy is FOR a society free of war poverty where machines and automation with the help of AGI; to help us redistribute goods and services so that we ourselves can get back to being human beings and flourishing. A society that is governed by educated people and doesn't need to be regulated, taxed, etc. AI won't need to be controlled by human beings because AI will be more intelligent than human beings.
When AI takes over, it eliminates the need for competition. We don't have as much of a need for a marketplace anymore. Elon Musk said that AI will cause all jobs not to be needed anymore.
It's nice to be optimistic but what about the people that will perish without be able to work?

I think the Julia McCoy AI must be either Llama or Claude because the video is really good, especially the eyes, but sometimes the voice isn't quite right. I think by the next release you won't be able to tell this AI from a real person.
