Unless you are going off-road, Quadra-Trac II is all you need. Those were great snow tires.

What the heck is Quadra drive?? Or Quadra Trac??

@@StickNclutch there are different 4x4 systems available for the grand cherokee. Which system you get depends on the trim level/model you choose and the options you pick. Without going into all possible combinations (which vary greatly) here is basically how it works. In the US (not canada) you can get a 2wd model. The next system which would be available on base model GC is called Quadra Trac 1. It's a fully automated AWD system with no low range and no driver input of any kind. It has open differentials and is the most basic system (but still alot better than some other AWD systems out there)
The next system is called Quadra Trac 2 and is the same as Quadra trac 1 but it DOES have low range. It also includes a "SELECT TERRAIN" system giving the driver some control over the system, but it remains largely automated. With Quadra trac 2 the system can transfer power to each axle (front or rear) up too 100% but the axle differentials remain open.
The next (and most advanced) system is called Quadra Drive 2. This system has a locking rear differential and has the ability to transfer 100% of the power front to rear as well as left to right. Meaning the system could potentially transfer 100% power to an individual wheel. Quadra Drive 2 is regarded as one of the best 4x4 "SYSTEMS" around. Prior to 2012 the QUADRA DRIVE 2 system had locking differentials both front and rear..(meaning the system could give 25% power to each wheel). This was dropped in 2012 in favor of a BTC "Brake traction control" system on the front axle. This system applies the brakes to a spinning wheel to "force" the transfer of power to the non spinning wheel. This new system which is only on the front axle is still effective but many people (myself included) were sad to see this change as its not as good as the older "fully lockable" front differential. The GC equipped with Quadra Drive 2 also come with adjustable air suspension giving the driver the ability to raise and lower the vehicle on airbag suspension. There are some videos on youtube which show the different systems and how they respond in different scenarios.

      @@jonh2408 thats really good
.if you ever sell a car I would buy from you lol... Much appreciate the heavy detailed information 👍 I just bought a 4x4 grand cherokee altitude and it does not have the terrain modes but I just bought it because I got a good deal I couldn't pass up. However I do think the four wheel drive system kicks in if there is a wheel spin
