I think stage 4 is what passes for "Flow Trail" in Salida. as in if your blood is still flowing on the inside as opposed to on the outside, that's a win. 😉
The beginning of Macky's stage 3 looked like controlled chaos. You both are sooo fast. ....and BTW....you have the best mountain bike channel. You're content is such a great mix between watching true FAST riding and getting to see some of the inside of the process behind the machine. Thanks for bringing us along!!!!
The steep descents on stage 4 looked terrifying but there goes Syd just picking her way through them with pure chaotic grace. Awesome consistent race results for both of you. Thanks for bringing us along
Hooligan and Nazty are gnarly...especially for a flatlander that only visits Salida once a year. You guys made it look easy. All around, the Salida trails and town are so much fun.
If you ask me, both your downhill skills on short travel bikes are your biggest strength. You usually blow past everyone on xc or trail bikes. This will be neat to see where you land amongst other people with similar strengths. I truly enjoy and appreciate your videos, thank you.
Good job on your first Enduro of the year. Wow, stage 4 looked brutal. Thanks for different colored bottle caps on the stems, easier to remember who is currently riding.
That was a cool event. I'll put an Enduro race on my list to try. Congratulations Syd on the victory and congratulations to you Macky for a great finish with some tight competition. I'm just glad that there were NO rocks out there. 😂👍👊
And that is why you's spank the downs on xc races👍 Must be great for confidence knowing you have the abilitie to do tech trails in xc races. Well done.
That was awesome! I can't get over how you guys are able to just smash through such chuck. I feel like Syd is such a better rider then she was pre covid. Macky, you kill it!
Those S mountain trails are insanely fun. Full gamut of flowy flat and approachable to stuff that is so steep and exposed that it doesn’t seem walkable. Such a good trail system. Salida Mountain Trails is amazing and the people at subculture cyclery are top notch.
hey! This particular camera does a much better job than previous models of showing how steep a drop is. it's much better than the previous 'go-pro' effect cams. Niiiiiiice. Thanks, as always.
Good job both of you! Just keep going and you'll be kicking everyone's ass soon. Congrats Syd on the first place that is super awesome especially considering how much you stressed. Now you know you can go faster on the sections you were being more cautious on and get even better times!
I think this is a great video because you explain your equipment more. Am never going to race but I still need tyres and pedals. Thats also why i got here following Syd Fixes Bikes.
Love see you all race enduro again, I will extend invite to race montana enduro series again this season i like to hangout with syd dad again. one love.
Woah, that was very chunky stuff. I don't know if I could walk those trails :) Great video, your videos are always exciting to watch. Congrats on the results!
After the race, were you both still happy with your bike choice or would you do anything differently? Strong work to both of you, thanks for taking us with you!
This is what I kept wondering through the whole video especially seeing how well Macky did with stage 4 on just a trail bike yet still came in 5th for that stage, seemed under biked.
Yeah I think it was the right choice! Stage 1 and 3 were pretty flat so the faster rolling/lighter bike helped a lot there. I think the difference in Mackys result on stage 4 is mostly a factor of the fact that that was his second run on it, and everyone ahead of him lives in the area 😂 the other stages were simpler so the local advantage didn't show as much!
Solid Ride, both of you🎉.... you make me want to put my recon tires back on... sometimes, we get sold on more aggressive and expensive tires. Then you see a real pressure type of real review and totally change the out look.. I can't believe how manageable maxis recons are!!!.. 😂
You guys "rock".😉. Seriously though, I love watching your vids and Syd was killin it in those techie sections in stage 4, it scared me just watching her descend it.
Syd, they should call stage 4 bone breaker, collarbone shatterer, teeth rattler, or separated shoulder pass. The fact you didn't hike down any of it is a win. I'm the polar opposite of a pro but my reaction to that trail was "hell no". Great result!
Hi Guys At about 1:50 when you are doing tire swap, I see your road trip bike tool box in the foreground. I would be interested to see what tools/etc you travel with.
Great job by both of you, you did awesome!! I just broke the fifth metatarsal in my right foot so I'm out 5 to 6 weeks so I hope you don't mind that I'm living through your videos as I recover. My wife is nervous they're going to make me want to get out on the bike quicker than I should. 😁
When talking goals, It’s kinda funny. We had a hockey coach that taught us to rate our game and it had nothing to do with the score. Rating 1-10 but you can only have one level 10 game. If you have a new best game, your other level 10 game moves to a 9 (and you can have multiples of level 9 and down).
Thrilling to watch as always. Funny: I'm quite new to the terminology, I've heard 'downhill race', 'single track' etc... So, when hearing Enduro, my mind matched "endurance", so I expected quite long stages, but surprisingly it is downhill only, with uphill not being timed. I'm a bit confused now 🤪 Must be because I'm from the lowlands 🙂 Great video as ever! And of course: congratulations on the results!!
The term comes from moto enduro, which is a big loop with timed segments, and kind of is an endurance discipline in the moto world (compared to motocross for example). But we agree that the name is confusing when applied to MTBs!
Nice job. Enduro is so weird. I thought the premise was supposed to be mini downhills that you have to pedal up for the start. And a few are. But they can be literally anything. This was more like XC mostly downhill sprints. Around here, they are just plain old short XC stages that you could literally do on a road bike.
The speed you guys go downhill on 120mm bikes with Rekons boggles my mind. I would be reaching for bigger suspension and burlier tires (and still be walking a few sections)!
Two questions. In enduro racing, once you pick a bike, must you use that same bike for all the stages? Second question: did you feel underbiked on stage 4?
Technically yes, you have to use the same bike, wheels, etc.. the whole race. In amateur races like this no one checks that really. In pro races they get stickers put on their frame and wheels that have to be visible at the start of each stage to show they are the same the whole race
Hey you guys absolutely love your videos especially these enduro races 🤙🏼 quick question, Mackey what’s your settings on your suspension ? I have the same Wfo and kind of struggling to find a good feel. I weigh about 165 so I was wondering if your about the same and how your settings are compared to mine. Maybe I can try something close to yours to see if I like it. Thank you and keep up the great videos
I set mine up using Niner's sag mark on the bolt and Fox's recommended rebound/compression settings (you can Google "Fox 38/Fox Float X2 manual"). That's assuming you've got Fox on there. I'm sure other brands have recommended starting settings as well.
That's what they told us haha (I also raced it, but was one of the slow people). Nearly vertical rock garden might have been a more apt description haha
Overnight oats! Basically just instant oats with protein powder, milk and water left overnight. We often add frozen fruit and/or chia seeds the night before too. And then add yogurt and fruit and granola in the morning. Lots of good recipes/ideas for other variations online!
Macky. Would your “being in the Enduro Zone” include a statement like “I expect I’ll have to take some risks once or awhile, to feel that intensity of really pushing myself”?
Nope. My goal is to feel 100% focused and in the zone without doing anything that feels risky or out of control. I think it's a common misconception that to race Enduro well you have to take risks, but in my experience the people who are consistently at the top are riding in control and the ones who take risks have occasional good stages/races but end up injured a lot!
Do you still agree with your bike choice after the race? Clearly there were some pedally sections, so probably the right pick. What were others riding?
I think stage 4 is what passes for "Flow Trail" in Salida. as in if your blood is still flowing on the inside as opposed to on the outside, that's a win. 😉
The beginning of Macky's stage 3 looked like controlled chaos. You both are sooo fast.

Some serious gnarr on stage 4, awesome job to both of you.
The steep descents on stage 4 looked terrifying but there goes Syd just picking her way through them with pure chaotic grace. Awesome consistent race results for both of you. Thanks for bringing us along
I feel like I’m a cool kid now because I’m in a Syd and Macky video! Great video and great job on the results! 🤙🏻
Only a kid would brag about that
Everyone should strive to be in one of their videos. 👍🏻
OMG! That downhill was so technical and scary AF! You guys crushed it. Kudos to Syd for winning all but one stage!!
I experienced it first hand. The go pro doesn't do stage 4 justice, that is a seriously steep and gnarly trail
Hooligan and Nazty are gnarly...especially for a flatlander that only visits Salida once a year. You guys made it look easy. All around, the Salida trails and town are so much fun.
Way to go guys! Congratulations on the WIN SYD!
If you ask me, both your downhill skills on short travel bikes are your biggest strength. You usually blow past everyone on xc or trail bikes. This will be neat to see where you land amongst other people with similar strengths. I truly enjoy and appreciate your videos, thank you.
Up early on a Saturday morning, rest of family asleep…….and I have some Syd & Macky content. A great start to the weekend.
Great race for you both. Scared the crap out of me. Wow! Thanks
Good job on your first Enduro of the year. Wow, stage 4 looked brutal. Thanks for different colored bottle caps on the stems, easier to remember who is currently riding.

Well done.
Great job guys! That was a fantastic run. And Syd, I’d have to admit, I’m coveting your bike a lot! 🤩
My old stomping grounds. Thanks for your great content!!!
That was awesome! I can't get over how you guys are able to just smash through such chuck. I feel like Syd is such a better rider then she was pre covid. Macky, you kill it!
The intensity of your descents when you race enduro is next level attack. I FEEL more on edge watching, which was unexpected 😂 nice job both of you!
So epic. That scared the crap out of me! But you guys just nail it. Keep riding XC, it makes you stronger!
Those S mountain trails are insanely fun. Full gamut of flowy flat and approachable to stuff that is so steep and exposed that it doesn’t seem walkable. Such a good trail system. Salida Mountain Trails is amazing and the people at subculture cyclery are top notch.

That last stage had some serious tech! Good stuff hauling through there. Amazing how much Salida looks like New Mexico ;)
Syd, that riding around 19 and 20 minutes! Steep, tight, and technical!!!!
Good job both of you! Just keep going and you'll be kicking everyone's ass soon. Congrats Syd on the first place that is super awesome especially considering how much you stressed. Now you know you can go faster on the sections you were being more cautious on and get even better times!
Wow you both are so awesome! You truly inspire me everytime i watch you race. Cant wait until next video. Thank you.
I think this is a great video because you explain your equipment more. Am never going to race but I still need tyres and pedals. Thats also why i got here following Syd Fixes Bikes.
This was great. Stage 4 looks amazing. Congrats to both of you for a win and solid result.
Good job y’all! Those guys that beat Mackey must have been some beasts because Mackey was looking good. Especially on the 4th stage.
Nice work you two! Cam Rose is a friend of mine, and local to Salida so he probably knows those trails like the back of his hand :)
Awesome meeting you guys there and getting to talk racing!
Stage 4 had some gnarly descending. I would've been walking parts most likely. Excellent stuff!
Stage 4 was gnarly!! Wow!! 😲
Well done. After being so long away from Enduro the results are simply spectacular. 👍
Love see you all race enduro again, I will extend invite to race montana enduro series again this season i like to hangout with syd dad again. one love.
These are some really cool trails!
You two inspire me to keep biking. As a road-only cyclist, what you do is so intimidating, haha.
Wow stage 4 😳 super impressed by your runs! Nice job!
I’m only a couple hours from Salida. I need to get out there and check those trails out.
It’s awesome seeing all the hard work paying off for you two this year!❤️🔥
Woah, that was very chunky stuff. I don't know if I could walk those trails :) Great video, your videos are always exciting to watch. Congrats on the results!
Need the footage from the 14 yo. That’s some amazing riding on her part, and on some technical difficult trails! Impressive
Awesome job guys on the first enduro race in a while! Stage 4 was a rough looking one, you guys were flying!
Would you guys ever consider doing Megavalanche? That would be amazing
Cool to see you in Salida
Love it, run what you brung! Great job
After the race, were you both still happy with your bike choice or would you do anything differently?
Strong work to both of you, thanks for taking us with you!

The dead mouse in the bathtub was so $60/night...trails in Salida are looking really good. Congrats on the results!

Stage 4, I thought I was gonna die just watching it, Great job!
Syd, they should call stage 4 bone breaker, collarbone shatterer, teeth rattler, or separated shoulder pass. The fact you didn't hike down any of it is a win. I'm the polar opposite of a pro but my reaction to that trail was "hell no". Great result!
Hi Guys
At about 1:50 when you are doing tire swap, I see your road trip bike tool box in the foreground. I would be interested to see what tools/etc you travel with.
You two are so awesome and such an inspiration!
Those jerseys are so sick. Makes me wish I'd bought this version too
Just wanted to let you know that we are doing one more jersey order this year in case you still want one: via.primalcustom.com/collections/ts-5491
I appreciate that you're focused on xc but I've missed the Enduro!
Damn i love how quiet the Onyx hubs are. It really enhances the sound of tires on the dirt.
Track looks so hard nice race
Thank you for an awesome video stay safe and God bless
You guys are awesome! 💪🏽
nice job guys.
Awesome video
Nice job!
Now we now where you guys got the skills to completely destroy the downhills on the stage races.
On 140 120 bikes that was amazing.
Hey guys local in Cumberland if you want a tour of any of the two stages at the BCBR idd love to show you the stages.
Sweet!
When talking goals, It’s kinda funny. We had a hockey coach that taught us to rate our game and it had nothing to do with the score. Rating 1-10 but you can only have one level 10 game. Way to go guys. 2 first place finishes, what more could you ask for?👍🏼👍🏼🔥⚡️
what were the other pro men riding for bikes? some of that terrain was rough for a fast tire and 120mm bike
That was my sock! 😂 Nice work out there!
Thrilling to watch as always. Funny: I'm quite new to the terminology, I've heard 'downhill race', 'single track' etc... @@sydandmacky Thanks so much for explaining! , makes more sense now. Best of luck this season, I love the content you guys make ❤
Thats ridiculous, crazy difficult stages for an enduro
Nice job. Enduro is so weird. I thought the premise was supposed to be mini downhills that you have to pedal up for the start. And a few are. But they can be literally anything. This was more like XC mostly downhill sprints. Around here, they are just plain old short XC stages that you could literally do on a road bike.
awesome
The speed you guys go downhill on 120mm bikes with Rekons boggles my mind. I would be reaching for bigger suspension and burlier tires (and still be walking a few sections)!
Those trails look so amazing, though there’s NO way I’d ride them anywhere near as fast!
Guess now you guys gotta do a DH race too!!!
The go pro doesn't even begin to do justice to stage 4, my goal on that stage was "don't die and finish" haha
stage 4 looks really techy! also, what do you think is harder overall, xc or enduro?
That stage 4 looked like a barstad of a trail. What was it called, Rock and a Hard Place.
Hooligan, very aptly named haha
Two questions. In enduro racing, once you pick a bike, must you use that same bike for all the stages? Second question: did you feel underbiked on stage 4?
Technically yes, you have to use the same bike, wheels, etc.. the whole race. In amateur races like this no one checks that really. In pro races they get stickers put on their frame and wheels that have to be visible at the start of each stage to show they are the same the whole race
Did I see you all at GJ Rides and Vibes last weekend or am I crazy?
Based on the results page, you may not be crazy.
there's no doubt that your enduro riding makes you faster in XC.
I've stayed in that hotel. it was cool and sketchy at the same time
Soooo the JET is Niners new enduro bike? What is the WFO for?
No.. I dont think a 120mm suspension bike is considered for enduro 😅
The JET is considered a trail bike, where WFO is the Enduro bike, but depending on the nature of the enduro, both can be enduro bikes ☺️
Salida is a very pedally enduro, even stages 2 and 4 have a lot of punchy climbs into features, There were definitely other people on trail bikes.
@@mrvwbug4423 I wonder that the first place in the mens pro was riding....he kinda kicked butt
There was a trail on stage 4?
That's what they told us haha (I also raced it, but was one of the slow people). Nearly vertical rock garden might have been a more apt description haha
Please, what's the recipe and concept of the breakfast that you prepared the night before in the fridge? Thanks.
Overnight oats! Basically just instant oats with protein powder, milk and water left overnight. We often add frozen fruit and/or chia seeds the night before too. And then add yogurt and fruit and granola in the morning. Lots of good recipes/ideas for other variations online!
Damn that 4th stage looked chunky!
Stage 4, just ride off every rock/drop you find and pretend it is a trail...sounds good!
I missed this in the video - were you running Rekons front and rear? Or Dissectors? Thanks for the great content!
Rekons!
For endurance bike riding . To train is to run hills on your feet first.
Not sure how long ago this was but how did Monarch Crest look?
What are the bottle caps ya'll have on your mountain bikes? Its on top of the front stem. Plz&Thnx
Syd's is from Santa Fe Brewing Co when they used to do bottles and Macky's is a custom one. Both attached using the Niner YAWYD stem cap
Macky. Would your “being in the Enduro Zone” include a statement like “I expect I’ll have to take some risks once or awhile, to feel that intensity of really pushing myself”?

wait! are you guys using new go-pro's?? that's some super clear pics coming through? or is it because I had to spit-shine my monitor? hahahaha!
These are the GoPro11s but we've been using them since the beginning of the year!
That looks SO dangerous! I know they're pros, but still...
Do you still agree with your bike choice after the race? Clearly there were some pedally sections, so probably the right pick. What were others riding?
Brilliant. Why were there cyclists on ther course? I am new to watchi g Enduro andf I understand Syd's preoccupation with dying !!
Those were other racers who had dropped ahead of Syd that she was passing
