    As a Veteran with knee issues, these lightweight eMTB are giving me hope I'll be able to ride again after a decade plus. I'm glad someone of your influence is giving positive feedback. I can deal with the eMTB haters, but not having many places to ride is the main issue preventing me (well, aside from price). At the end of the day, that bike isn't much heavier than some enduro bikes 36-38lb. The whole weight doing more trail erosion thing is BS anyways because someone on a 10lb lighter bike but 10lb heavier than you is putting the same loads on the trails.

      I always reserve my judgement on eMTB's for cases like yourself; they provide an opportunity to keep people in the sport and I will say that as eMTB's are getting more popular in my own area, it's mainly been individuals like yourself using them. I don't need one yet, but I don't want to rule it out for the future.

    • @SuperGoforitall
      @SuperGoforitall Год назад +2

      eMTBs have benefits for reasons you've mentioned and I don't place judgement on anyone who rides one. However, I think for the trail erosion argument, eMTBs still have the potential to cause more erosion, but not because they weigh more. For instance, a trail system that I ride has a big climb before any descent can be made. On my regular enduro bike, I can only make that climb once or maybe twice then I'm done. I've seen an increase in people riding on those trails in the last few years and most people have eMTBs. Some of the guys in good shape can cycle through 2-3x as much as I can with the help from the electronic assistance. The trails have become noticeably more rutted and the trail no longer looks like a single track, which is unfortunate because it's also a walking trail. So, I don't know if there's a solution to this, but I guess if it were up to my suggestion, I would recommend that people either be mindful of the amount of times they ride a trail or if they are physically capable, maybe they might consider riding a regular bike

      @@SuperGoforitall Hey I don't mean to butt in but they can slow down before a turn and stop dragging the brakes. I'm seeing a lot of that. I ride with a fella that rides an ebike because he's all busted up from his day's riding MX and I'm fine with it but more focus needs to be put on the correct style of riding, I used to ride dirt bikes and I ride my MTN bike in a total different way. Those riding ebikes because of health reasons might can't do much trail maintenance but someone able to work needs to get with the trail maintenance crew and sweat out the erosion problems where riders come into a turn to fast and hit the brakes. My buddy now knows the trail and hardly ever hits his brakes unless it's to wait on me 😃. Anyway just letting off some steam. Later my friend

    So happy to see that you're supporting the existence of ebikes on the trails. I'm 72 years old and I have been riding mtb since 1987 and I did quite a bit of racing when I was younger so I'm familiar with "acoustic" bikes. I bought a Specialized Turbo Levo last year so that I could ride longer and further and I love it (I ride the local trails at least 3 times a week). I will say that mountain biking seemed like a true brotherhood until I got my ebike. Most of the folks on the trails are friendly and interested in my bike but there are definitely hard feelings from quite a few riders who have something against ebikes. I don't understand what the beef is, aren't we all out there to have fun? I have had some surgeries and I have some of the challenges that come with old age such as arthritis, I wouldn't be out there enjoying the trails without the ebike. To those of you who don't approve of ebikes, lighten up and enjoy the entire mtb tribe!

    I have MS and am >60 yo. I started Mtn biking in 1986 and it's been a huge part of my life. My right leg fatigues way quickly now in my hip flexor and hamstring due the nerve issues. It got so I was too fatigued to unclip and put my right leg down when needed and riding became dangerous and scary. Plus I kept falling over when trying to stop. 😞I have been on an ebike for 2 years now. It's gotten me back out riding regularly in a way that I could never do anymore on my acoustic bike. More often, more miles and more fun. Safer too. A few years ago I saw a TGR movie profiling pro racer Paul Basagoitia who had a devastating spinal injury. He said that he was incredibly angry with biking after the accident and never thought he'd be on a bike again. Then the film showed him ripping up the trail and jumps on a pedal assist ebike in Crested Butte. He said that that was the first time that he felt like himself again since the accident. I wasn't angry at biking but I was angry at my body and now being on an ebike I know exactly what Paul meant. I feel like me again. I live in Summit County CO and there is huge anti ebike sentiment here. It sucks to feel ostracized by the community that I felt so much a part of before. I am so glad to see so many positive comments about e-biking and no haters. And to the guy on the trail who was screaming at me to "get out of here" and then told me he knows that he'll be on an ebike one day. I need it now and the "rules" need to change. Here's hoping that people start to come around and see that EMTB's are still bikes..... just better!!!

As with motorcycles in the 70's, we shall all be banned riding on public lands in the near future due to the 1% who simply do not care. i know it fun and all to tow people. but talking from experience, we have two of the turbo levo bikes and racing around everywhere in turbo mode and occasionally towing people really wears on the motor. we still have the warranty (wich is a lifesaver) because we have replaced the motor 2 coming up on 3 times on each bikes now.
    because of this we usualy avoiid towing and try to use the less powerfull modes. its hard, especialy after knowing what it feels like blasting UP the trails almost as fast as going down.

You could also use the heart rate monitor to test each of the climbing settings on the bike to see just how much of a difference each setting makes.

    While it's not a perfect science, maybe track your calories burned until you hit a certain number (1000, for example). Ride the same climbs and trails until you hit 1000 calories burned. Wear a chest heart rate monitor, and see how long it takes you to burn 1000 calories. Ebikes will help you ride longer, which is awesome, but you will definitely burn less calories on climbs, but maybe more on downhills since the bike is heavier. Downhill workouts/calories could be different too, and they're just as important (using different muscles throwing the bike around while jumping and whipping through turns). Handling a heavier bike going downhill could burn more calories than your standard acoustic bike.

      Already did that, Turbo Levo SL Comp Alloy 2019, 58,49KM distance - 1178 Cal. (1,5h moving time). Now the fun thing: 3 hours moving time - 1024 Cal - 60.04KM on 320Wh battery - it means that I used 106W per hour, but the thing is this was a 5 hour trip with stops (when bike was not turned off) so technically it was more like 60Watt per 1h. I came back quite tired, the trail was flat but still I wanted to drain-test the battery.

    When i got my first ebike rm altitude poweplay i was riding it nonstop for 2 weeks but then started to dislike it because i noticed its not replacing what i can do or feel with my trailbike and i started to notice that i was loosing fitness since i used to train a lot. Now its my cheat day bike. I train 5 days a week with mixed gym and long rides on my regular bikes and on friday is my cheatday and i ride some downhill trails when my legs are sour from the training before. In my old age its important to me that i keep my edge and create enough strss on my system to stay fit. I wouldn’t like to have only an ebike, it would make me weaker but as a addition to the training its actually awesome.

    Nice choice for your riding needs. I switched to an EMTB after breaking my back a few years back. It really aided in my recovery. I watched your video recently on the kind of workout you get on an EMTB. It looked like you pushed yourself on the ebike no differently then you did on your analog bike. I do the same. The difference is that my speeds, distances, and climb difficulties increased. I ride for a fitness, and fun benefit. That does not change from analog to EMTB. What ever makes others happy is up to them. I like my EMTB as it increases the fun factor on my rides. The more fun I have, the more often I end up craving a ride. For those that don't want an EMTB, ride an MTB. They are both amazing and a great excuse to play on a bike like we did as kids. It's a win win. Live to love. Love to ride, encourage others to find their stoke

I am an admitted flat earther from Florida. All the E-bike haters will eventually find, what I discovered. I understand exactly how they feel, I felt the same way, until I was able to climb 5000' in Colorado up to nearly 11,000', without O2, LOL. I like my shuttle service. I ride an Ibis Ripley for mountain biking, but I also did a lot of road riding on a Giant Defy Road Bike. Funny thing is, I'm not as young as I use to be (like I was when I rode a lot back in the 1990's) and I found myself not able to keep up with other bikers more than half my age. So I got myself a Trek Road E-Bike. What I've learned so far about E-Bikes: I'm still getting a great workout, even after a 20-30 mile ride and that I can now keep pace with other riders. I also learned that climbing hills now is a lot easier for this old man (I say that jokingly.) That said, I'm now thinking of purchasing myself an E-Mountain Bike for the same reasons. Thanks Alex for another great and informative video....GET STOKED BRO 😎

    Ebikes lead to way more laps, saddle time, progression, and fun. They add to your cardio through aerobic numbers, but not as much anaerobic. Basically, you don't bonk near as quickly and therefore ride for a much longer time. Actually burning more calories than the acoustic bike. I personally think on fast large jumps that they are better (more stable in the air with the low slung added weight)! Enjoy!

    I love E bikes, even if I ride an analogue...just because they can bring more people to the sport, and they can be really efficient with your time, some friends ride on them and they are sick!, I truly get why people like them and it's totally fair.
    The only downside for me is actually how some people don't respect the rest of the riders in the trails, especially the young newbie who wants to show off he is the "boss" of the trail when you are going downhill, a couple of weeks ago an Ebiker overtook my girlfriend and make her fall in a risky area and just said "I thought I could do it" the problem is when their lack of experience ends up affecting the rest.
