    I've had my La Sal Peak for a little over 2 years and have loved it! Most of my local trails are very tame, and it's definitely overkill here, but I know that when I travel, that I have a bike that can do pretty much anything. The unexpected bonus was that it climbs really well, better even that my trail bike.

    • @waltermagana6720

      Ditto! I've had my La Sal 2.0 for about two years and love it. I thought I would be way over biked. I live in central Texas so not much elevation but lots of rocky, loose, ledgy, dusty techy terrain. I've riden DH once and the La Sal was like a magic carpet. However the La Sal feels a lot like trail bike on tame trails. It climbs techy terrain really well. It feels easy to maneuver for a long travel, long wheel base bike. It's a true all rounder.

    I have a 1st generation La Sal and it is still my favorite bike. You can ride a lot of gnarly stuff and while it is super capable, it doesn't mute the trail.

    • @The_Sampler

    No, it does not, as long as the travel is matched to the type of trails being ridden. I got my first FS back in the early nineties and I noticed right away the increased traction and cornering ability. This added up to more speed which eqauals more fun😊😊

    Nice to see you on an Enduro! Hope you have fun with it.
    I think the reason for shifting after you pressed is because the casset has certain porints where the perfect spots are(narrow tooth) and the shifter knows these spots and remembers how much gear changes are left but still wants to hit the spots to reduce grinding gears.
    Was like this on the older SRAM models and from what I saw and mainly heard when following someone with the new model, this "Software optimized shifting" has gone 2.0😅

      I own both, my son rides the Delano. I also have a Signal Peak and Solitude. The Signal I use for racing XC but I will tell you in the 120MM build, its very capable as a Down-Country bike. When I first got my son's Delano and rode it, I immediately felt like I was on a long travel Signal, more capable, but I was surprised how playful it was. The La Sal definitely feels different and the sensation of 'bigger' is there. That being said, if I'm not racing XC, or doing a training ride with one of my fast riding partners, the La Sal is my Go-To bike. It's very comfortable to pedal and pedals quite easily. I have extra wheel sets, and tire selection makes a huge different on snap and roll, so I sometimes switch to something less toothy for mellower rides easier trails. With the Signal and La Sal, I don't really feel like I need a bike in the gap between the 2. As an advanced rider I have become comfortable with pushing the Signal to it's limits on fast/steep/technical and I kinda know where that is, and it's plenty far enough towards the La Sal's sweet spot, so I don't really miss having a Delano. Then again, you can stroke a Delano in L or XL and run it 160/147. I have not ridden this setup but have heard some really good things. You could ask on the Fezzari Owner's FB page about this topic and I'm sure you will get some good feedback. Another option is to run the La Sal standard 170 but flip the linkage token to the high position. This also adds a little more snap on flat/calm trails.

    Congrats!!! Killer new rig. The Transmission looks great for durability, but damn does that thing shift SLOOOOW! The AXS is so much faster. I wonder why?

  • @TheIggyTech
    @TheIggyTech 8 месяцев назад +4

    Yeah the transmission "queuing" up shifts is kinda weird. Personally I'm not a fan of wireless shifting at all though so I already have my biases 😆 I long-term demoed a Trek Fuel with GX AXS and I couldn't get past the lack of physical feedback when I shifted, it felt like I was just suggesting what gear I wanted and had no idea how many I was going up or down. Looks like a sick bike and perfect for shuttle days, enjoy the trip man!

    • @The_Sampler
      @The_Sampler  8 месяцев назад +1

      Ahhh that's the perfect word for it...'queuing'!

    • @MarvinWestmaas
      @MarvinWestmaas 8 месяцев назад

      That's because it literally what's happening: queuing.
      Each button press puts one shift in the queue. This queue will then get executed the moment the cassette is in the right position to shift. In theory this means smoother shifting when riding, since all shifts happen at the exact moment the cassette has a path for the chain to go to next sprocket.
      It doesn't sound so great when you're going at slower speeds or in gearing with low sprocket rotation since that just means the time needed to execute those shifts increases so much you loose the feeling of connectivity between your inputs and what the bike is doing.
      I guess adding sensors to know more about what the bike is doing would just add to much to the cost. Otherwise it should be possible to just make it aware enough to drop shifts in queue when you're at a stop or something.
      Seth's been riding these a long time isn't he, he should be able to tell you all about if I'm just crazy or that it really does feel better when you're going faster.

    Congrats on your La Sal! I am a Fezzari Ambassador and after picking up the La Sal earlier this year, I ride it the most now. I've spent months dialing and tinkering with my setup. Something you might want to try is extending your fork to 180mm. I have a DVO, so this is a pretty simple task. I have found that the small extension doesn't really impact the playfulness of it that much, and in the event I'm riding around on more tame trails, I will flip the token in the linkage to the high position to give it a little more snap. I see you hooked up with Norm or Ambassador General. Great guy and the whole Fezzari staff at HQ are amazing people! If you are ever planning a ride in the NW Georgia area, we have not so well known little place with chunky steeps that are very La Sal worthy and I'd be glad to take you there. I've heard a few other riders refer to it as "Little Windrock". Just hit up Norm for my number, my name is TJ.

    K, I’ve had AXS for 2 years on 2 different bikes and I’m not crazy about it my derailleur hanger is always bending on rough terrain. My next all mountain bike I’m going back to cable derailleur as the cable tension I think puts less strain and weight on the hanger.
    Which leads me to the suspension, I love the bigger suspension, my days of cringing at huck to flat are behind me. I bought a mullet DH bike for bike park mostly for the added suspension and also cuz my all mountain bike was getting eaten up when I rode there. I’m even digging the heavier bike it forces me to be conscious of the bike flick and flow that maybe I wouldn’t have had to do with a trail bike plus I love the speed! The mullet is also a must have I notice I can rail turns without it feeling like I have too much rear tire and it helps in the steeps. Yea love the big suspension and at 5’10” 200ish lb I love the large frame for the stability.

    To be honest I've switched from a mondraker dune XR full enduro bike to the pivot shadowcat 160/140 it's a pretty light trail bike and to be honest it suits me way way more as I want to cover ground these days as I get older while still having fun on the downs. It climbs and pedals soooooo much better than any enduro bike I've tried yet only gives up a little on the downs so all round it's a better day of riding.. also the way the lighter bikes change direction on the downs is soooooo much fun.

    I'm guessing the new SRAM transmission uses a position sensor (red ring on the cassette) to tell it when to actually shift so it always shifts at the correct degree on the cassette and that is why it shifts so accurately and smoothly but also the reason for the delay.

    What are your opinions on frame protection, is it something worth investing in? Do the scratches even really matter? What about aluminum frames? Thanks.

    I could do the Transmission by myself in 20mins but it went back to the bike shop for another 15mins.

    To me too much tire is more of a fun killer, than too much suspension. Inserts and DH casings are great for DH, and rocky trails at high speeds....but overkill most of the time.

    Is it a 29r? I must have missed where he mentions it. I assume so.
