Another story has it that he got as far as the audition stage, but the studio execs were worried that kids in the audience would recognise his voice from other villain roles (let's face it, he's done a lot of those in his time...), so took the chance on a less familiar voice, i.e. Mark Hamill. I'd love to have heard his audition tape :)
I've heard he was originally cast as the Joker in Batman: the Animated Series and that it started damaging his voice. Maybe he was trying to laugh high-pitched like Mark Hamill did. I personally don't think I'd mind too much if he kept his deep voice, as long as he was completely uninhibited with it.
i love tim curry, i'm glad he got the life time achievement award and i feel sorry for him that he had a stroke. it's going to be a really sad day when he dies...but t least we can look back at his work and say: Tim Curry is awesome!

He might have been having a bad time but we found him a non communicative, bad tempered, above himself so and so. Maybe that was a one off. Maybe he's really a nice guy. But he's definitely a loner and private to the point of peculiarity. Teamwork was not in his vocabulary or the work and input from other people acknowledged. You could try educating yourself about the damage from strokes which range from recovery to instant death. He is not at the better end of that spectrum and no amount of positivity is really going to help him as unbelievably he is still smoking and probably won't live for much longer. Still, you seem to think your positivity will help him.
