  • The BEST HARLEY SEATS Touring Seat VS Stock Seat
Thinking about upgrading to the Touring Seat for your Harley-Davidson? Stick around as I compare Touring Seat with the Stock seat and give my final thoughts at the end of video.
Firstly lets dig into the stock Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special seat.
As you can see, this is the seat that came already installed my my 2019 Street Glide Special, it sits low in the frame and the pillion seat tapers back and down over the rear guard for that fast back aggressive style.
From a posture point of view, this seat is inherently universal to satisfy the majority riders without having to spend any extra money. I had no major issues with the standard seat and used it for quite some time.
My main complaint was that after about 200km in the saddle, I was getting a numb bum and started cramping in the hip flexors.
Then when my mate James was moving over seas, he gifted me the Harley-Davidson Touring seat that can be used on all Baggers. This seat sat in my Garage for months unused, until one day during a clean up, I decided to pull it out, dust it off and give it a go.
Even whilst installing it, it was quite a bit larger and heavier, with a far greater surface area for the pillion to sit on with comfort, however this did change the styling and look of the bike.
Once a sat on it I also felt a big difference. I sat an inch or 2 taller, which reduced the angle of my hipflexors, reducing cramping. Also by sitting that bit higher there was far more padding and I was able to travel greater distances before getting the dreaded NUMB BUM.
There was a downside to using the larger touring seat for my Street Glide, and that was that with the extra seat height meant I sat higher and needed to reassess my windscreen option too, to reduce added wind buffeting.
Well to wrap it up and share which seat I prefer and is it worth the extra money.
My choice of seat between the Standard Harley Bagger Seat and the Touring Harley seat is in fact the Touring Seat. For me, and my body dimensions the Touring seat puts me into a more comfortable riders triangle position. I'm sitting more upright and can easy pump out 300km or more with minimal discomfort.
Is it worth the extra cash? Maybe, maybe not. That depends on your level of comfort with the standard seat. Visit your local dealer and see if they have one you can test ride with, but for me it's the Touring Seat all the way.
If you are trying to fight wind buffeting still check out this video, and until next time Throttle On, Stay safe and see you on the next video.

Mine? .. Standard 'fast back' SGS seat - Been rejigged with crocodile style covering.
I agree with the numb bum observations - However, it's a good excuse to stop and have a fizzy.
To mitigate arse pain - An Airhawk or knock-off ...or alternatively, the old school sheepskin 'fluffy' ... worked for years over many HD's.
Dont like the profile of the clunky touring version ... Pillion comfort really doesn't come into my thought process .. The old 'like it or lump it rule applies. ;-)

@@ThrottleDownunder Rob it really makes a difference. As you know we do long haul rides and after 600-700km in a day I pull up just fine. I have prolapsed discs in my lower back, and impingements between my shoulder blades. That was partially the reason for upgrading to the fairing. I had ridden with the naked frame for 11 years. The gel seat has helped a lot! Highly recommend it. Even if you can for the solo saddle. Try my bike next time we see you and go from there.

I use the stock seat with a backrest when I’m traveling far and it serves it purpose for me. And I use the Harley hammock seat if the wife wants to cruise. But they both feel the same for me as far as the rider. What you got there looks like the sundowner seat from Harley, is it not?
