- The BEST HARLEY SEATS Touring Seat VS Stock Seat
Thinking about upgrading to the Touring Seat for your Harley-Davidson? Stick around as I compare Touring Seat with the Stock seat and give my final thoughts at the end of video.
Firstly lets dig into the stock Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special seat.
As you can see, this is the seat that came already installed my my 2019 Street Glide Special, it sits low in the frame and the pillion seat tapers back and down over the rear guard for that fast back aggressive style.
From a posture point of view, this seat is inherently universal to satisfy the majority riders without having to spend any extra money. I had no major issues with the standard seat and used it for quite some time.
My main complaint was that after about 200km in the saddle, I was getting a numb bum and started cramping in the hip flexors.
Then when my mate James was moving over seas, he gifted me the Harley-Davidson Touring seat that can be used on all Baggers. This seat sat in my Garage for months unused, until one day during a clean up, I decided to pull it out, dust it off and give it a go.
Even whilst installing it, it was quite a bit larger and heavier, with a far greater surface area for the pillion to sit on with comfort, however this did change the styling and look of the bike.
Once a sat on it I also felt a big difference. I sat an inch or 2 taller, which reduced the angle of my hipflexors, reducing cramping. Also by sitting that bit higher there was far more padding and I was able to travel greater distances before getting the dreaded NUMB BUM.
There was a downside to using the larger touring seat for my Street Glide, and that was that with the extra seat height meant I sat higher and needed to reassess my windscreen option too, to reduce added wind buffeting.
Well to wrap it up and share which seat I prefer and is it worth the extra money.
My choice of seat between the Standard Harley Bagger Seat and the Touring Harley seat is in fact the Touring Seat. For me, and my body dimensions the Touring seat puts me into a more comfortable riders triangle position. I'm sitting more upright and can easy pump out 300km or more with minimal discomfort.
Is it worth the extra cash? Maybe, maybe not. That depends on your level of comfort with the standard seat. Visit your local dealer and see if they have one you can test ride with, but for me it's the Touring Seat all the way.
If you are trying to fight wind buffeting still check out this video, and until next time Throttle On, Stay safe and see you on the next video.

What seat are you using on your Touring Harley?
I dream. Maybe one day.
@@hachewie yeah man. You still need to ride NOLA
@@ThrottleDownunder YES PLEASE!
well its a stick seat bcoz its still at the dealership. actually wouldn't even been made yet lol
Mine? .. Standard 'fast back' SGS seat - Been rejigged with crocodile style covering.
I agree with the numb bum observations - However, it's a good excuse to stop and have a fizzy.
To mitigate arse pain - An Airhawk or knock-off ...or alternatively, the old school sheepskin 'fluffy' ... worked for years over many HD's.
Dont like the profile of the clunky touring version ... Pillion comfort really doesn't come into my thought process .. The old 'like it or lump it rule applies. ;-)
Well you asked for comments, STOP WITH THE BELL AND COMMENT AND LIKE SCREENS. They take so much away from the production which is obvious you do a great job at. Just my 2cents.
Great video man!! Iron Dundee and Bolt Bucket sent me your way, and I am glad they did. You did a real good job of explaining the pros and cons without putting anyone off. I don't own a bike like this, but anyone who does will definitely benefit from this video. Subbed 👍.
I ended up swapping my seat out for a Mustang Touring seat on my Fatty and never looked back. I was so, so happy! Like yours, it sat me a touch higher, but man, I had happy cheeks! No more numb bum! Bike looks great Rob!
Good to know mate, thank you for the advice 🤙🤙
A seat makes all the difference on a longer ride. Nice work mate. Hopefully we will be out riding soon.
ASAP mate
You are looking awesome mate.
Haha thanks Chewie
I re did my stock seat. new foam for more padding right round and new cover
The 200k limit on stock seat I agree with alot. Did my entry level Iron Butt ride on a stock seat last year. It still hurs almost a year later. The OEM realy suck. It does look good thow. So I might just modify it.
Yep have to agree, stock seat wasn’t the best so as you know I ended up customising it, really well put together video too mate, really slick looking
Thanks Paul I appreciate mate. Just trying to tidy up my content and have it more focused
I have the tall boy seat and it’s ok. It’s not awesome but it’s better than the stock seat for my length. Like yours Rob it is bulky to look at.
This one would be far too restricted for you mate
Iron Dundee sent me to love you. Done
Thank you mate and welcome
The tallboyseat was instant pain thesecond i sat on it. I could feel the pressure on the sciatic nerves. I want a solo seat (putting a solo seat touring pack on mine for long trips) that is good for a long in the limbs and wide 6'4" Aussie. We have to pay too many damn tax costs here
They look a lot more comfortable than either of my two bike Robbo 😂😁👍🏼
Haha they sure do mate.
Great job Rob I redo every seat on all my bikes de skin them refoam reshape reskin usually I’m adding a layer of 15 mm memory foam just to square up the rear it saves ya hips n spine costs bugger all changes the game goodonya mate cheers
Awesome mate if I had those skills I'd do it too 🤙
@@ThrottleDownunder I’m sure you could do it man everything’s possible tryings free and mistakes are the best lessons
@@tazyt3388 that's very true indeed
Hî is this the "sundowner" seat for touring ?
that's a Gangsta HD Baggah
Haha thanks Div
I despise my seat with a passion. I’m even thinking of just chucking a cushion on it and strapping it down🤣. I wanna look at getting the Roadmaster seat it’s much more luxurious
Your should get the Roadmaster seat, with the Roadmaster under it
@@ThrottleDownunder I thought that after I wrote it 🤣🤣
@@OutbackOutlaw I give permission lol
@@ThrottleDownunder excellent I’ll let Sommer know 🤣. I’m buying a 500cc TC HD trike for her, hope to have that sorted this week. Last one made in Australia.
I’m considering swapping out mine for a solo.
I haven’t seen one yet that convinces me that it’ll be more comfortable,
I think I'd like a good solo one too Roger, I think it's on the cards for me
I could get you both CVO gel seats 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@Zulu_117_ST are they good?
@@Zulu_117_ST shove your CVO stuff!!! 😂
@@ThrottleDownunder Rob it really makes a difference. As you know we do long haul rides and after 600-700km in a day I pull up just fine. I have prolapsed discs in my lower back, and impingements between my shoulder blades. That was partially the reason for upgrading to the fairing. I had ridden with the naked frame for 11 years. The gel seat has helped a lot! Highly recommend it. Even if you can for the solo saddle. Try my bike next time we see you and go from there.
I use the stock seat with a backrest when I’m traveling far and it serves it purpose for me. And I use the Harley hammock seat if the wife wants to cruise. But they both feel the same for me as far as the rider. What you got there looks like the sundowner seat from Harley, is it not?
Im not sure what it's called, it was a gift from a friend without the box or labels
cool
I bought an AIR HAWK SEAT cushion
a much cheaper alternative, 4 hours in the saddle no sore bum
on a 2010 Road King with the standard seat
I'll have to check them out Nigel. Where are they based?
@@ThrottleDownunder I purchased it from Harley Heaven Ringwood Melbourne,I am pretty sure most good bike shops would sell them
Airhawk Australia. www.airhawk.com.au
Good luck with it
The touring seat does look a lot more comfortable mate
It sure is. Comfort for me is so important haha
Is the touring seat from an Ultra Limited or Road Glide Limited? We have a Road Glide Limited now and are looking at getting a different seat. I've dealt with the owner of Freedom Shields and he is an awesome guy!
This touring seat is an off the shelf solution for all Touring models as far as I'm aware
@@ThrottleDownunder thanks!
Can you explain again about the answer of the question ? Is the touring seat the oem from the ultra limited ?
Hi. @iron Dundee sent me
Thanks for coming across buddy
Un happy with stock..too dang hard up front, but like goldilocks might, I think the touring is too high, passenger and rider.. I need a compromise
Hi mate , The stock seat and rear suspension are just horrible !!!! for such a expensive ( touring ) motorcycle. I went for the HD Hammock and upgraded the rear shocks to Ohlins HD777 , it made such a difference.. I have taken the sissy bar pad off and leave just the bar on , to take your eyes off that sofa look at the rear ....
Thanks mate. Yes rear shocks are next, and you're right, so much cash to have to spend more
@@ThrottleDownunder, I Highly recommend the Ohlins HD777 bought them from Kyle-USA ebay store , made a huge difference to my Road King Special
@@hondanut7564 awesome mate thank you I'll look into it
nah not unfit its the seat definately
Thanks mate, unfit too haha
Num-Bun LoL
