For those of you who do not have her Beauty book: She uses Clinique Superbalanced Make up foudation and Estee Lauder Lipgloss. Isn't it amazing how natural she acts wihile putting on her make up in front of a man and a camera? That is trully amazing and inspiring! I guess Joan is much less vain in real life than in her part as Alexis. She is entirely British, not American. Could you imagine a Hollywood actress 30 years ago to put on her make-up on her bare face in public? That is what she is doing in her video... One of my alltime role models!
Joan is not bare faced by any stretch. I can see upper and lower eyeliner at the moment she begins speaking to the interviewer. No matter how dark and thick a Caucasian woman's eyelashes are, they will never mimic a continuous dark liner. Besides, she's always been naturally pretty--women like her are nowhere near as insecure about being seen nearly or completely makeup-less in the way a good number of average -looking women are. Joan and her late sister Jackie luckily won the good looks lottery. They never had to cope with the sometimes constant anxiety of persistent judgement--something which most women the world over and throughout history have had to endure. This goes as far back as the ancient Greeks---whose men were aghast about how badly, in their view, females age over time.
She is a seasoned actress who also has done theater, all theater actors are very confident putting on make up as they often have to do it themselves and in a time crunch unlike in tv or movies where they got a make up artist, and the quickness in which she does it proves it, also it is strange you mention how natural she acts in front of others putting on make up, why wouldn't she?, she has done so many nude photoshoots and filming, imagine if she won't feel comfortable simply applying make up. 😂 She is a woman who is very comfortable with herself.

I LOVE this video. Although its very obviously early 80's make-up (in the days before the blusher police existed!) she talks a lot of sense. I just found out that she shares one of my biggest make-up philosophies too ... so thats nice to know. Go Joan!

She says that she tried botox one time and hated it. I believe her. She has been stunning for her entire life and still is in her 80s.
I love this. She is so raw and honest. Its amazing to me that 'Alexis Carrington' did her own make-up and did it well. Of course, she had a lot to work with naturally. A woman of complete and total confidence.
She has a beautiful, delicate face, a bit like a ballet dancer. She also has a wonderful voice and diction, charming and amusing. Her makeup, as she acknowledges, is of her generation, and her profession. I like it. It is what it is. Why should it be suitable for everybody? It isn't, of course.
Very, very well said! I could not agree more!! I'm seeing so many people criticizing her without regard to time period, profession and the fact that she learned from women before her and makeup artists before her. I'm quite sure if this video was taken in this day and age, her resulting look would be quite different.
And you figure she did her whole face in 14 minutes. Her son has portraits he painted in the Smithsonian museum...clearly he got his skill with a brush from his mother. Her skill is incredible.
This video is absolute proof that the woman was naturally beautiful. Take a look at her incredible bone structure before she started applying her makeup -absolutely stunning. And this was before women were having plastic surgery left and right. Her nose is perfection..her eyes are divine..and her skin is naturally flawless. At the end..she simply took my breath away. Love you Joan! =)

This was amazing to watch!! All the things she was saying while putting on her makeup is what the beauty gurus are saying today. And, that she was using artist brushes from an art store, how to contour for a double chin, going from day to night. The woman really new what she was doing, very impressed, she looked gorgeous before the makeup but after she looked glamorous. I really enjoyed this and the whole time she is explaining it all to the interviewer, a guy, so mesmerized with her. You go , Joan!
I'm southern so we like big hair. My grandmother lived with us all my life and she was very glamorous. My mother was a tom boy so my grandmother was the one that I would watch doing her makeup. Or get in trouble for going thru her makeup drawer. I once ask her why she used so much hair spray and she said My dear we are southern. I said why does that matter? Her reply was that we are a very religious people so the higher the hair the closer to God. LOL, I miss her so much!

Imagine if we had videos like this for Ancient Egypt, 18th Century England, the Court of Versailles, etc.!! This helps the base go on smoothly, and blend together.)

Yeah, I agree, I just said on another video she doesn't need to wear heavy make-up, or any make-up at all, I believe fully made up she has lost her prominent high cheekbones, padding her face out too much. Joan although very beautiful, seems far to obsessed with wearing a ton of makeup.
I definitely noticed eyeliner on Joan's upper and lower lashes and what looked like a minimal amount of eyeshadow already applied before she began the full application. I never understood why she felt the need to apply so much makeup all the time--she was always very pretty and very photogenic. Lucky to have gotten the combination of dark hair, light skin, green eyes and marvelous bone structure. And Jackie was certainly as attractive as her sister, with her own unique looks.

She really had a great facial structure: Heart Shaped. Perfect lips too and green eyes. She reminded me of Elizabeth but with more bite. Joan could quickly tell some one off.

to be honest, in photos and on tv, i never considered joan colllins exceptionally attractive, but seeing her smile and joke and be conversational in this video suddenly made her lovely to me! :) this goes to show how much personality can contribute the essence of beauty. (but i can't not mention this: did anyone else have a stroke when she did her powder application! how did she make that work?? lol)
People used to say Joan Collins took the most time, effort, and product to do her makeup out of EVERY star. After watching this, I think there were a lot of haters. She did that quick and easy. They used to say Linda Gray had the best skin in Hollywood ( a broken hearted ex tried to say she had a face lift). Ms. Gray does look fantastic for her ‘70’s. If she DID, in fact, have a facelift, she had the most natural looking one I’ve ever seen.
Brilliant private setting with the TV camera recording from a distance and Ms. Collins vanity table is missing basic beautician sponges, twislers, brushes.... From a first glimpse at the anchor's suit and hair and the original film/video quality and pacing, seems from the very early 80's... I LOVE Joan Collins!!
Joan Collins here doesnt start off completely without makeup. Even though she puts mascara on later, she had mascara on in the beginning and bottom eyeliner, if you closely observe the opening shot.
For those of you who do not have her Beauty book: She uses Clinique Superbalanced Make up foudation and Estee Lauder Lipgloss. She actually looks gorgeous without makeup!! I never would have guessed!!!!
this woman is truly amazing!!!
She looks beautiful her and her personality way better than what we used to think she is.
Thanks Lisa Eldridge
This is Brilliant! Joan is incredibly beautiful & genius with her makeup ~
gosh i have fallen in love !! she is so pretty and her smile gahh
She's so ingenues, using art brushes for applying makeup and so beautiful with applying her makeup
She already had eye shadow and black liner, so no barefaced, lovely regardless.
Martine Fortin plus fondotain and councuiler too
And also she started with some mascara already on. and bottom eye liner
I caught that as well
I think that was leftover makeup from before
The most fabulous makeup tutorial I"ve ever seen.
She has a head start in beauty ..thank you !
I'm amazed at how fast she is applying make up! I wish I could do that!
What a classy lady! Beautiful personality to go along with her beautiful looks. Love Joan Collins!
i love her mirror...and her technique!
I love this! Love Joan and her quick mkup run thru
She has a beautiful face with or without makeup. She also has charm and speaks well. I think her and Victoria Principal have been exceptionally blessed.
I love this...Joan is a truly glamorous woman...you never see her looking less than immaculate.
This was so great to watch!
Wow! This is amazing! I love the hand held mirror and she says discotheque lol
Here because of pixiwoo and why a treat this morning to see this Joan is gorgeous! Her lips OMG I die
I love seeing this side of Joan Collins. Thanks Lisa!!!
Her skin looks prefect without makeup.
ching ping LAM she had lots of make up at very start ,eye liner, eye shadow, fondoteint, counsiler blush thats a lot
The techniques she uses are the Max Factor makeup studio ones, he made up stars, also taught them how to do makeup properly.
I'm surprised at how interested the interviewer was and how open minded he was about makeup.
to be honest, in photos and on tv, i never considered joan colllins exceptionally attractive, but seeing her smile and joke and be conversational in this video suddenly made her lovely to me!
Thanks Pixiwoo!!!
In 2021 on RUclips we call these "GRWM" 😆. The original "get ready with me" video - before it was even a thing.
Joan Collins here doesnt start off completely without makeup. Even though she puts mascara on later, she had mascara on in the beginning and bottom eyeliner, if you closely observe the opening shot.
So what
Joan is the master of that split second killer flirt look. She flashes it momentarily and BAM, knocks you out.
