    I was bored the other day and decided to build a paint shaker for cans . It’s similar to yours and it does work really well. If any of y’all want one and not capable of building it yourself. Buy one from AC, They work.

    Checking things out, mate, it looks to me like there's been no deterioration of the clear coat from the bird dirt either. Some of the cheaper clears don't stand up to seagull ejections from that orifice down here (in New Zealand) - and in fact, some factory clears end up needing a mild cut and buff if the stuff is left on for any length of time (ie: a week or more). I don't know if our seagulls get into the leftover curries or tacos left in people's bins to make their doings so destructive, but maybe its more the higher UV content we have in conjunction with it that makes the difference.
    Why I'm obsessing with seagull crap is that I'd appreciate seeing the paint at 3 months and then every 3 months after that up to a year. Maybe at the 6 month point, you could polish half the cleared side and half the non-cleared but flattened section so that at the 6 month and year mark, we can see what sort of maintenance is needed to keep the rattle can results looking as good as they do. Even with the non-cleared paint, I wouldn't be mad at it for clouding up after a month in the height of your summers. The non-flattened section hasn't got any better or worse with the stretching and shrinking of the unprotected paint either, so that's a plus. It'd be interesting to see how (or if) that can still be flattened out after leaving it being baked for several months and if so, whether it comes up as well - or better than - the other half of that side.
    Seeing the damage the brake cleaner made to the unprotected paint, it might also be interesting to see whether the same could be said for the clear-coated side. I'm not suggesting intentionally damaging the clear coat, but maybe have THAT side face the workshop during the next couple of months of your working on projects and see whether it still looks as pristine. This would also simulate it being in the real world, parked out on the street, at a workplace or whatever.....and then do the same as you did this time with the cleaning and comparing at what then will be the first 3 months of its life.
    The rustoleum I sprayed in the engine bay of my round-town beater has stood up well to the wintry weather and the heating / cooling of the engine bay for about 2 weeks longer than the truck bed, so I'm really liking this rustoleum product for its apparent quality. The rust hasn't come back either - not that I'd expect it to after 6 weeks, but some lesser primers would not necessarily have protected it as well as the rustoleum.
    Seeing bodywork being done is always a good thing too and one can always pick up some tricks and techniques from watching. Anything to do with bodywork or painting - especially the experimental - is a great thing to watch and a learning experience (speaking personally at least). I'm still impressed at how well the paint has held up for a relatively cheap paint job that still has a much better look than surface-rusted or patchy panelwork - even on the non-cleared side of the truck bed. Thanks for keeping it real and budget friendly! Makes it look like something I could actually accomplish easily without a whole pile of expensive spray painting equipment I don't have any experience with using. All the best!

    I would like to see you clear the half on the side that you didn’t cut and buff. I painted a truck back in the fall. It has some peel ( used a spray gun, not turbo can). I plan on cutting it then spraying speed coat clear. I would love to see how it did before I sand this whole truck again.

    What’s the process with bare metal with the turbo paint, do you use rust, oleum, primer, or some kind of sealer or just Turbo paint

    • @ACDesignsGarage
      @ACDesignsGarage  17 дней назад

      I like to use an epoxy primer for bare metal it makes a great base to put your paint on. Spraymax that makes the 2k clear sells a 2k epoxy primer also or I would atleast use an etch primer from like SEM brand so it will bite in and not flake off!!! Thanks for your question!!

      I agree, that's why I've been making these videos with spray cans. I have all the paint equipment and have painted for 20+years. It's so much easier if you have paint guns and stuff. I'll look to see if I can find a 2k paint in a can if you'd be interested!

    Comparing the two sides, it seems to me, if you go to the trouble of cutting and buffing the finish, you are wasting your time if you don't use the clear coat. Rustoleum makes a rattle can lacquer for automotive use. Can this be clear coated with a 2K product and if so, is it worthwhile to do that? Just found your channel today and looking forward to checking out your welding videos.
