"Assume that other people need to charge, even if it's empty."
Excellent default attitude to adopt. It raises the awareness level that you mentioned and breeds good habits in general. Situations can change really quickly at sites with only a few stalls, so what started out as a gloriously quiet session can quickly change to a clusterfunk while you're inside eating a sandwich!
Great job well done! Love the basics for EV etiquette. Wish everyone would just be courteous to everyone. Thanks!!
I’m 100% in the avoid Electrify America whenever possible camp, especially since I don’t have a charging plan. Currently on a ~1000 mile trip thru Upstate New York and I’ve been to exactly zero EA locations so far
Nice rundown! A couple of things. For better or worse, GM's new 85 kWh EVs (Blazer EV AWD and Equinox EV) need the full 500 A that only 350 kW chargers can provide in order to charge at 150 kW. On EVgo and Tesla Superchargers, that's not a huge deal, but it might cause a bit of a fuss on older (unbalanced) EA chargers. Also, the only things I would add to your list are "paying it forward" by reporting downed chargers that you aren't actually using and trying to focus on building the trip around your needs rather than the car's (i.e., choose charging sites based on the location and amenities rather than the charging provider). That last one kind of aligns with your advise of not focusing only on EA, which I think most non-Tesla EV owners are still doing when they plan trips.
If you plug in at your hotel and your car is finished when you aren't in bed sleeping go move your car. There were people moving in and out but one EV at Legoland NY when I was there earlier this week was parked there for over 24 hours and not even plugged in.
Thanks
Great job. Keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
You will always see a Bolt owner sitting on an EA-350 convinced it charges faster than the 150. They really should just hit the local Chargepoint CPE250. 🤣 No just move to the EA-150 and get educated. But it appears EA is slowly upgrading sites to the new HW and hopefully more will be balanced.
Forgot to mention to check in on Plugshare. I also like the thought of calling the Chargepoint operators customer service to report hardware issues.
Yes, thank you for the point about bolt drivers, people are often quick to judge without knowing the facts
