I believe that when there’s a relapse after improvement for quite sometime, the brain perceives it as a serious condition, when in fact, it’s just an ordinary stress response we all get as normal people do experience time to time. But because of the bad memory one may had experienced in relation to such a symptom, it extremely triggered when the brain’s perception of danger is involved. Without being aware, it’s just the kind of sensation you were used to- when you had it chronically. Your body once again is not used to or has forgotten that memory, accompanied by a belief system (false alarm) stored in the subconscious, can make it a shock.

My mother was diagnosed with cancer in her late 50s and while she did have surgery she refused any chemo/radiation because she didn't want to spend whatever time she had left in and out of hospitals deathly ill because of the treatment. Her attitude was, "What's the worst that can happen? I die? Oh well, we're all going to sooner or later." She lived to 98. Other people I've known with cancer were understandably terrified and their whole life became what could they do to get rid of the cancer - UNDERSTANDABLY - unfortunately they passed away within a couple of years. I don't know if my mother's positive "I don't care if I die" attitude is what saved her or if it was just coincidence but it sure makes me wonder. I've never seen anyone else have such a "meh, who cares" attitude about cancer. But she had that kind of attitude about everything and she had been through some serious shit even before the cancer.

    • @cg6067

If we weren't scared of our "illnesses" we would never bother going to a doctor and the whole $$$ medical industry would collapse ! Take a joke book with you , smile when they give you the scare tactics and be skeptical of their diagnosis which is only an opinion and designed to keep you in the $$$ industry

1:55 best thing you’ve ever said on this channel Dan. People with a real physical issue can still benefit from your approach and I wish the mindbody community was more accepting of us sometimes versus trying to convince us we can’t use a combination of both approaches.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can change my brain's perception about vomiting? I have extreme debilitating emetophobia to the point that I've become agoraphobic and in my mind, vomiting would be worse than death. Literally. I know it sounds ridiculous to those of you who don't have this phobia because it sounds ridiculous to me when I'm not triggered BUT as soon as there's even a twinge of nausea or the slightest thought of "what if" all rational thinking goes out the window and tormenting fear takes over and I don't know how to stop it because nobody likes vomiting, nobody wants to vomit, it's not a pleasant thing, but normal people wouldn't rather die than vomit and their whole life doesn't revolve around how to avoid vomiting at all costs every minute of every day even when there's no legit reason to believe it will happen. I sound like such a crazy person I know. But I can't tell you how debilitating this is.

It sounds like your brain has locked onto it as the most dangerous thing. My “thing” is sitting.” You’re not crazy you just need to teach your brain it’s not dangerous. I know it’s not easy but it is the only way out for all of us.

This gave me flashbacks to my first labor. If you can find peace in it and approach it with courage like you would death, maybe the stress and symptoms will dissipate.. some people death is their worst fear, and they fight it, but if it's going to come anyways just accept that it will come and it will be the worst and you'll still be fine

“Who you are is God's gift to you.
Who you become is your gift to God.”
God created the human body to contain a brain for a purpose. It is never too late to teach this amazing organ to function for our betterment because like Dan says, the human body is perfect. God doesn’t make garbage.
