    Nemophila rocks. They have such varied influences between them all. It comes through in their music. Guitarist Hazuki is a big Arch Enemy fan. Bassist Haraguchi San a Slipknot fan. Vocals Mayu a Foo Fighters fan. Drummer Tamu a Dream Theater, Opeth, Symphony X, Mastadon fan. Guitarist Saki a Saikema ll fan. Varied influences.

    Nemoph-i-l-a. , no second 'i'. It is a flower. They wanted to name the band after a flower because they are all female.
    Saki and Hazuki both play lead guitar. Mayu's screams are awesome, and she transitions to cleans easily. Hariguchi-san with the killer bass, and Tamu Murata on drums.
    The song is Dis-sen-sion, defined as a disagreement that leads to discord. The downward movement you described is des-cen-sion.
    Both this and Revive are from their first album called Revive. The 2nd record came out in December, the first single was the title track, Seize the Fate.

    Nemophila play a wide variety of styles and excel at all of them. Mayu can flawlessly switch from screaming to singing and vice versa at will. I would love to see your reaction to their very different song “Style” where she raps. I also highly recommend their song Adabana.

    I hope you do more Nemophila, they have a wide range of styles. Some of my favorites are Oiran live (where you will also hear their name correctly, because they are introduced in the beginning), Raitei, Sorai. They also have an extensive library of metal and rock covers and are adding a new one every friday.

    I think a big reason bass players dont get love or recognition is because in a lot of metal bands you cant even hear the bass being played over the guitar and drums(unless maybe you have good headsets) there are a few bands out there where is the bass can be heard throughout the song like for instance Mudvayne.
    Thata one reason I love Japanese metal and hard rock bands you can hear the bass played throughout the songs. Band-Maid is a perfect example how you can hear all four instruments and nearly all times

    • @darkchiron
      @darkchiron Год назад

      Very true. Love love the bass parts in Mudvayne songs. That dude really deserved how noticeable his playing was on the bass.

      Can't forget too that, especially Japanese bands, in at least one song per album/EP, the bass really shines and/or gets a moment in the spotlight. "Rollin' Rollin'" is a great NEMOPHILA example and "Play" by Band-Maid both show that the bass isn't entirely used just for rhythm and that's why I came to love Japanese rock/metal music myself, and the fact that most of the lyrics are nothing but positive

    Nemophila is a metal band not an emo (scremo) band. Nemophila means "forest lover" in Greek, and is the genus of a flower commonly known as a baby blue bell. Which are found in North America but there is a park in Japan that some were transplanted to which is where they get their name from. Five petaled flower, five band members.

    DISSENION is by far one of their heavier songs as of this reaction/comment. New album (if they keep the pattern) should be out by mid December. We got "RISE" and a single, which is equally as heavy and features and nice breakdown in it. In my humble opinion, "OIRAN" is my fav, at least live, especially their NAON-YAON performance in 2021, would love to see a reaction to that in the near future.

    College 3 point line introduced in the 1980-81 season, but different conferences used different distances. But in NCAA tournament games they didnt have it until 87. I know this because Im a huge NC State fan, and the 83 championship team, Derrick Whittenburg was already known as a long range shooter and so he made a ton of 3’s during the regular season. One game in particular against Virginia, he had 27 points at the half and almost all of them were 3’s

    You must look at STYLE by this band the singer can rap with the best of them .One super talented band both guitarist switch from retherm to lead so in effect they have 2 lead's and 2 retherms and the bass player live is dynamite out front stage playing in effect lead so actually 3 leads LOL but on the bass some of the time .They consider all members equal bigging each other up applauding each other .One very special band

    Enjoyed your reaction, as always, guys. The convo about rhythm guitarists - while accurate, I think - isn't applicable to this band. They have 2 lead guitarists: when not harmonizing, they trade off lead/solos and rhythm. Both are great; hell, the entire band is! You may be surprised if/when you react to them again; they, like many Japanese bands, don't really adhere to one genre...

    • @sleepysleepythomas5461
      @sleepysleepythomas5461 Год назад +1

      I agree with you 100% on that. There are songs in their discography like 'DISSENSION" (heavy instrumentally and Mayu's aggressive vocals) and then there's "Life" and "Now I Here" that are just the opposite. But, within the different styles they do, Saki and Hazuki are trading off riffs and solos. Easily one of the best bands to come out of Japan and the Covid era of music

  • @NewAeonWarlord
    @NewAeonWarlord Год назад +3

    You are not wrong. Rythm-playing often does not get enough recognition, no matter if it's bass or rythm guitar. Lead is like the cherry on top but you NEED a solid rythm section to make a band sound good. Without that, you are lost. In Nemophila's case of course, both guitarists share rythm and lead duties, so...

They're about to start their 1st American tour later this 2023 summer and they unfortunately lost their original drummer, but their new drummer just made her debut and is already kicking ass in Hanabie's newest single: TOUSOU(Run Away), which just came out this past week, if you two need a banger to start off on again!!!!!

    Enjoyed the reaction! In a lot of bands where there are two guitarists, they'll trade off doing the solos and might also harmonize as a duo (Lovebites, Nemophila). But yes, there are bands with dedicated lead and rhythm guitarists. An example would be Band Maid. But you guys are right. It's important to have a solid rhythm to give the lead guitarist a foundation to solo over. Band Maid's rhythm guitarist, Miku, is VERY solid. She also founded the band, writes most of the lyrics, is the spokesperson for the band, and also is quite a vocalist, harmonizing with the lead vocalist, Saiki and even taking the lead mic occasionally herself. Some might overlook her. But no Miku, no Band Maid.

    In Metal, particularly the faster stuff, the rhythm guitar players are appreciated as much as the leaf players. Sometimes, more so. Take Metallica. No one doubts James Hetfield's abilities (not counting Dave Mustaine who claims he taught James everything about guitar playing), but Kirk, who does most of the solos, gets picked on quite a bit.

  • @garykeeling2275

    It is easy to confuse because "nemophila" and "nemophilia" are both actual words. "Nemophilia" means "forest-lover." "Nemophila" has the exact same root words, but is used specifically to refer to a kind of flower that is native to North America, but has been exported to Japan and become very popular there. Americans call the flower "baby blue-eyes." It is a five-petaled flower, which is part of why they chose the name, because each petal represents one of the five members of the band.
    With a lot of these Japanese bands, you don't have to worry about the rhythm guitarists getting lost in the background, and many of them don't have one. Lovebites, Nemophila, Aldious and several others have dual-lead guitars, so both have equal time at center stage. Band-Maid has a rhythm guitarist, but she is also the main face and personality of the band, so she's never lost in the background! The Japanese are very good at making sure everyone in the band has their time to shine!

    Your reflection about the little recognition of rhythm guitar only confirms to me how little understanding rappers have about the concept of the rhythm riff and the dynamics between guitarists within a rock band, I'm just saying 😉.
