On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You should dogfight WWII bombers. I think that would be really interesting to see the massive planes trying to turn inside eachothers circles

Man that kill in round 2, it looks like the airframe took critical structural damage, went into a hyper-G situation spinning out uncontrollably, and literally split apart at the seams from the forces. It flipped around so damn fast there like it was a leaf on the wind in a hurricane, no wonder it exploded

@@SuperCrysiscore I would imagine that unless the cockpit collided with the engine (I'm imagining the airframe folding in the middle) there'd still be a chance for the pilot to eject from an in tact cockpit

Nah, it was clearly not spinning that fast. It did not even reached a full 180 degrees spin in a full second. Probably was "just" a Fox 2 that ignited and exploded.

The real hero of the video is Sven and his trusty snow shovel,
For you new guys - Sven lives in the fuselage of the viggen, his job is to beat the engine sensless when it compressor stalls with his snow shovel till it relights. You can hear him whaling on it in the back during high AOA manuvers.
All viggens come with a Sven.
If Sven is struck with gunfire, he is wired to explode violently and destroy the entire plane so his secret nordic snow shovel technology can't fall into enemy hands.

Actually even if the f-15c variant would destroy the Viggen it would still be pretty interesting to see how big of a difference it would be.

Note that the AJS is the attacker variant, so until we get a fighter viggen, the C or D (Wich has more chance to appear) the viggen fights might get more spicy

It is really cool to also see the bandits perspectives. Would like to see more of that.
This is one of those times I wish they had the Ja-37C or 37D. Has the better engine so there's less comp stalls. And an internal gun.

One of very few cases in DCS where the fuselage of a plane actually got destroyed (I'm talking about the fuselage here, obviously the wings, tail and nose cone can be broken off). However, it's still all or nothing. It either remains mostly intact after a kill (save for some shrapnel holes) or is completely gone like in this case. Never does it break in two or any number of discernable pieces. A small detail, but it does hurt the believability and immersion of DCS a little. Not sure if it's DCS as a platform or the planes' damage modelling, but it needs to change.
Or the old airframe couldn't handle the high Gs.
Yeah, a few rounds on your wings and suddenly the entire model is filled with bullet holes.
I am still blown away by the realism. Must be really behind the curve because to me I’d forgive it that small detail.

They have bigger and more important priorities than your "immersion"
If you want better air-to-air capability, you need to find a model of the JA-37 variant of the Viggen, which was designed as a fighter, with a real air-to-air radar, better engines, and a BVR capability.

It was great to hear our old friend Sven using his hammer to re-start the Viggen's engine again.
This is the AJS version there is a better version for dog fights called JA 37 which was optimized for these scenarios. It had a new version of the engine which you could stress alot further before compressor stalls. JA 37 was a testing platform for systems later fitted on Gripen and my guess is thats why DCS havent been able to get their hands on the flight model for that version of the plane
It's great to see from the other perspective after a fight. Definitely like to see more of it.

These time stamps are great. 6:18 This is hilarious watching the Viggen explode into the Multiverse by Dr Strange and the uncontrollable laughter of GS following lol and at 10:26 seeing the color of the pilots eyes in the rearview mirror had to be terrifying. Even a gamer seeing him in the rearview must have been intense. Great vid.

Viggen is pretty impressive considering how old it is. I bet the Gripen also is much better then we think.

The Gripen E/F was consideted being the weakest by far - vs. The SH, Typhoon and the Rafale. The F-35 won in all aspect than counter business with France..
So your question should be answered provided same pilot propfiency
@dreaminknight Everything was based on numbers on paper, as there was no Gripen E/F to test. But absolutely, the Gripen is by far the smallest aircraft, and therefore obviously has the shortcomings that a smaller aircraft has.
The Draken is better than all! Seriously. The Draken is one of the most beautiful aircraft I've ever seen. Got to see one in Finland.

Brasil is actually replacing it's aged F-5s with the F-39 Gripen. Our budget for military equipment isn't big but from what I read it's a really good jet.
Unless you’re fighting someone with F-35s or J-20s Brazil should be fine.

Neither has the Gripen to be fair. It’s one of the better 4th gen fighters based on specs though.
Brazil is getting the Gripen NG (Gripen E) which is a monster, every bit as good as the block 70 Vipers

I remember giving Airfix model kits of both the Saab Viggen and Draken to a friend around 1972 so it's doing well considering it was probably designed in the sixties

Just my 2 cents: I'm glad you switched to flying the F15 once you saw the one-sidedness of the match-up. I've often wanted to see what happens when you switch planes like this and was thinking that in the future you could release 2 videos as a set; One with you in one plane and the next with you in the other. Twice as many videos with almost the same amount of work if you film them all in one session. It's the same idea that movie production companies have used when they already know there's going to be a part 3 (after the part 2 currently being filmed) so they film 2 and 3 at the same time and it saves a ton of time and money without sacrificing quality. You'd have the added advantage of not increasing the length of each individual video as well. I personally like then between 10 and 19 min I've noticed.

AJS stands for attack/jakt/spaning (attack/hunt/recon). Would be interesting to see the JA (hunt/attack) 37-D Viggen go up against the F15-C for instance.
Did they end up calling the initial version 'AJS'? I only remember the initial AJ-37 (in the usual angular green camo pattern seen here), and SH- and SK- versions for recon and maritime strike. The JA- if I remember came a bit later on, with a more advanced air-air pulse doppler radar, more thrust (RM-8B) and engine reliability, Oerlikon cannon, and of course the relevant Sky Flash missiles...does DCS reproduce those features, I wonder?
We sadly don't have that version for this sim

The Vig actually spun apart! I have a new respect for the DCS damage model.
It looks like the physics engine just had no idea what to do with the Viggen once it's wing was off, so it's next best thing was to just *explode*

How do you learn all these aspects of each aircraft? i mean i find it impressive you seem to not only be very good at aerial geometry but you also know the specs of each jet so cleanly. They way you talk about slowly picking them apart. Plus i always wonder is the vocal added after while reviewing the fight or is it all live while your flying and fighting? Never the less you are a most impressive pilot.

The Viggen flew the first time in 1967, F-15E flew the first time in 1986. Different planes different roles.

I wonder how the F-15E would do against a P-51 or spitfire.
Probably either go into the vertical, where the props have a huge problem of following or stay away with the superior T/W ratio. Although we do know that, if you make a mistake, even a prop can kill a 4th or even 5th gen jet.

Would a little differential thrust and using the flaps like on the F-14 give the F-15E a little groove?
I would assume he's using differential thrust already, he's commented several times that he just uses it whenever applicable now since he's gotten so used to doing it.
What's your process of finding someone to fight against? Have you flown against them before and they put up a decent challenge?
