The Turbo Timber® SWS (Sport Wood Series) 2.0m is the largest E-flite Timber model yet! It’s based on the design of the foam Turbo Timber 1.5m models but features strong, stiff and lightweight built-up wood construction. The balsa and lite-ply airframe arrives factory-finished with genuine UltraCote® film covering and is mostly factory assembled so you can have it flying in almost no time - without the use of glue or special tools. A two-piece wing makes it easier to store and transport, and it’s equipped with functional flaps for shorter takeoffs and landings along with improved low-speed performance. Plus you have the option to utilize crow and/or full-span flaperons for even better STOL capabilities. The BNF® (Bind-N-Fly®) Basic version is equipped with six factory-installed digital and metal-geared Spektrum A6380 servos, a 4S to 6S compatible Avian 5055-500Kv outrunner motor, and a 100-amp Smart ESC that can provide a variety of power system related telemetry data with Smart and non-Smart batteries via compatible Spektrum AirWare™ equipped transmitters. It’s also equipped with an AR8360T receiver that provides full-range, real-time telemetry data including overall battery voltage, current draw, ESC temp, and more - plus motor reversing for special ground handling and other capabilities - along with the benefits of AS3X® and optional-use SAFE® Select technologies. Or, the ARF (Almost Ready-To-Fly) version is ready for installation of the electronics and power system you prefer! Both versions feature simple and durable aluminum landing gear with oversized tundra-style wheels and are also ready to accept the optional Carbon-Z Float and Mounting Sets (both sold separately). They also feature factory-installed LED navigation and landing lights along with transparent windows for added scale-like looks, and a convenient top hatch for fast and easy battery changes. And it all combines to make this a great first-ever “wood”, everyday sport flying and aerobatic capable, plus large-scale Timber model for intermediate to experienced pilots!

If you don't like this release please be considerate and respectful if you comment here! You may not like it, but there are many people who do (see the many positive comments here so far!). And for those who might have the urge to think/say we "never release anything different!", keep in mind this may be "another Timber" - all of which are all-time best sellers because so many people like and buy them (and often buy multiples of them...just like Cubs, Sticks, P-51s, T-28s, F-16s, etc.!) - but it's also WOOD and there are no other ARF models like this that can be assembled without glue...nor are there any other wood BNF models available that are anything like this! Also, the second paragraph below is a good reminder:
We typically release upwards of two dozen new airplane models each year, from ultra micro to giant scale, from trainers and STOL-capable models to warbirds and jets. Around half or more of those are ALL-NEW designs, and the remainder are usually NEW updates/upgrades of previously available models. We try to "sequence" them so we don't announce/release too many updated/upgraded versions of previous models in a row, but that's not always possible.
And if anyone doesn't like our recent, this or any future announcements/releases, they should wait a few weeks to see what the next one is...because it could be COMPLETELY different and something they like/want much more! We've got some ALL-NEW jets, civilian scale, STOL, 3D, sport and other models - in foam and wood - in the works and coming soon.
For added reference, these are the models we've released in the last ~18 months:

Price seems a bit high for a balsa even but if it’s truly as beefy as I have been told it will be worth it and we should also consider it’s a 6s system and hand built compared to injection foam and the time to design it from the ground up structuraly wise. So considering that the price is reasonable. Can’t wait to see more balsa modes from eflite/HH
Or maybe even some fiberglass or wood edf’s.

Hello Horizon, thank you for adding the 2.0m Turbo Timber to your fleet. I very much appreciate you offering it in the sport wood series. I have a hangar of float planes that I have converted over to electric over the past few years and wanted to add a Turbo Timber (Beaver) style model to the fleet. Your Turbo Timber on order it will fit in just fine.......

I believe I have the experience to fly this model, so long as I don't go stunt crazy, but I don't think I have the confidence to fly the Timber SWS. In the back of my mind will be the fear of crashing the plane and having to pick up the pieces.

Looks beautiful. I have the first 1.5 m Timber, and it's my favorite floatplane. Twin water rudders on it are great and all servos are under cover for protection from water splashing. Though battery hatch under nose is a pain, when floats are mounted.
But this Timber SWS, has this exposed elevator servo, likely to get splashed by water? A concern. Maybe one day I will buy this SWS.

    • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  5 месяцев назад

As you can see in the float flying footage and especially around the 3:21 mark, we used the 2 white covers that come with the Carbon-Z float set to cover the elevator and rudder servos: www.horizonhobby.com/product/carbon-z-float-set/EFLA5600.html

I see that now, thanks. Another feature I like about my Classic Timber on floats, is the wing servos, and linkage to ailerons and flaps are completely enclosed in the wing. Like a high end sailplane. Less chance for water intrusion, when the floats splash water around. My Timber-X, while a great ,fun plane on wheels has exposed wing servos too, though the rudder/elevator surfaces are controlled by long push rods to servos at wing root. Better for water ops..

E-Flite might have just hit a home run with this one. I would want to see the specs as far as wing loading and whatnot, but from the video it looks plenty maneuverable and still retains good STOL capability. If it performs anything like the other models in the Timber line, it should be stable and easy to fly. As others have pointed out, the balsa construction does have a lot of advantages. Will need to look closer to see what technologies are involved, but this is looking really promising! Regardless, looks like I'm going to have to start saving my pennies for this one! LOL!

The first shipment of these sold out within a few days of announcing it :) Some people prefer wood models, especially in larger sizes...even though they cost more. And although there have been more new foam and less wood models introduced over the last decade or so, we see renewed interest in wood models. And that's why we'll continue introducing a wide variety of small foam to giant scale wood models (and mid-sized models in both foam and wood!) in the coming years!

Yes, compared to the $519.91 it would cost to buy them separately (see below)...plus they already come installed from the factory! That makes the BNF Basic version a great deal compared to the ARF version (and most other similar class ARF models):
"We also know some people still prefer ARFs so they can install components they already own and/or prefer. But the BNF Basic version at $350 more offers quite a bit of added convenience and value because it includes these factory-installed and high-quality Spektrum components:

      (1) Spektrum AR8360T 8-Channel Receiver with AS3X and SAFE Select = $129.99 ( ]www.horizonhobby.com/product/ar8360t-dsmx-8-channel-as3x-and-safe-telemetry-receiver/SPMAR8360T.html )
      (6) Spektrum A6380 Digital HV, Metal-Geared Aircraft Servos = $29.99 x 6 = $179.94 ( www.horizonhobby.com/product/a6380-standard-digital-hv-high-torque-high-speed-metal-gear-aircraft-servo/SPMSA6380.html )
      (1) Spektrum Avian 5055-500Kv Brushless Outrunner Motor = $109.99 ( www.horizonhobby.com/product/avian-5055-500kv-outrunner-brushless-motor/SPMXAM4740.html )
      (1) Spektrum Avian 100-Amp Brushless Smart ESC = $99.99 ( www.horizonhobby.com/product/avian-100-amp-brushless-smart-esc-3s-6s/SPMXAE1100.html )

Which total up to $519.91 separately! That means you actually save $169.91 AND they’re already installed for you! So although it’s far from cheap, the BNF Basic version is actually a pretty good deal compared to the ARF. It’s also a good deal compared to many other similar class ARFs that would cost upwards of $1000-$1200 to complete with similar components!"
