  • In this video, I port my k20 oil pump so it can flow better and also so it wont cavitate at high rpm. I also shimmed the oil pump spring to bump up oil pressure. If you find the video helpful please like the video and leave a comment! Dont forget to subscribe to stay updated on the build!

    I'm currently rebuilding my stock motor with future plans of going higher rpms. Would doing this now be a bad idea?

    • @sleeperworksgarage
      @sleeperworksgarage  3 года назад

      No doing this will increase your oil pressure allowing for better lubrication at higher rpms.

      Online the oil pumps are running $200+. if you find a k20a3 in the junkyard grab the oil pump from that it's the same as type s.

    • @sleeperworksgarage
      @sleeperworksgarage  3 года назад

      @Dj MLover I grabbed mine from the junkyard from a k20a3 and ported it myself. A ported oil pump is going to cost around $350 not including the other parts you need for the conversion. I recommend getting an OEM oil pump and having it ported and shimmed or buying an already ported pump. There are a few companies that offer ported k series oil pumps.

    How thin is too thin for porting? Yours looks thin as well on the corner towards you if your looking at it. I just ported mine like yours...did yours hold up? I'm scared to install mine now.

    • @sleeperworksgarage
      @sleeperworksgarage  3 года назад

      Not sure exactly. I didnt take very much material off at all, it may have looked like that on camera (I am using a cell phone). My engine hasnt been run yet it's still on the engine stand. Also you are doing something like this at your own risk. If you feel like you shouldnt run it then dont. There are companies that offer professional porting services for our applications.

      @@sleeperworksgarage I've been porting for 5 years now various heads and throttle bodies and my 3rd k24 build, did a poor man's type r as well b18c1 b16 head, Frankenstein d16z6 y7 build and a couple 4runner 3.0s, only my 2nd oil pump i ported that's why I was just asking because I just seen you do it lol. I've seen other professionals fuck up all the time on simple stuff and ugly work, online pre ported bolt ons I've seen crooked and half assed. I ported it less thin than yours, you took out more material than I did so I'd be iffy on running your pump, so I don't know if I shouldn't run it because like I've stated i don't know how thin is too thin, I can send you pics it looks like it came from factory all my work does, regardless why would I have someone else port it even more???

    • @sleeperworksgarage
      @sleeperworksgarage  3 года назад +2

      @@thedude3189 lol I'm not saying you couldnt do it. But that there are companies that offer the service that are reputable. I also meant to start with a not ported one and have it sent out not to continue porting the one you have. I watched someone else port theirs and mimicked theirs and they run some pretty big power engines. I do plan on checking oil pressure manually when I turn it on for the first time. Just havent gotten to that part yet. I'm all for trying it at least, if it doesnt work I'll just throw a stock pump in. I'm pretty confident itll be fine tho.
