One of the things I love about Seiko is that the hands always have a proper length. The minute hand touches the minute track, the second hand goes a bit further and the hour hand almost touch the hour markers. Nicely done if you ask me.
I agree, I have the 045 and love it. One thing you didn't mention was how versatile it wears. It can be worn with almost anything. Love the reviews Jody, keep up the great work!
The way you introduce your videos gives me such a boost of joy to my day. Love your attitude, it definitely rubs off on me and I always have a better day after watching your videos :)
Great video and excellent explanation of your thesis. Thank you sir and as an owner of at least 9 divers, a SARC045 I have to add that you are correct on the lume and I would even say this one is better without lume and I am reminded every time I look at my SARB033 that some dials and hands should not have lume.
I know what you mean about a 40mm watch without a bezel looking bigger, especially with a lighter silver or white dial. I have the SARX-055 and I think you'd have liked it if it had been available. The Titanium is super light and often find myself staring at it's dial playing in the light.
Unique angular case, especially coming from seiko, short of a samurai. Hands unique as well, a wonderful JDM overall, and that dial is special and gorgeous. Thanks for another incredible introduction, Jody!
That SARX line is just amazing. I may just end up getting an 047 just to see if that blue-green dial works for me. The size seems just perfect for a 7.5-inch wrist.
Thanks for the review, Jody. Beautiful watch. I was fortunate enough to buy the SARB033 & 035 a year or so back when they were just a little over $300 on Amazon. Specs are the same.
Sorry I have to do this. LOOM = An apparatus for making fabric by weaving yarn or thread. LUME = Luminous phosphorescent glowing solution applied on watch dials. Superb video as always, for someone late to the Seiko party you are catching up quickly, I know they catch a lot of flak for bracelets but I have always loved the SARX043/45 ones they really do catch the light in a tasteful way. I could and would lose that onyx in a heartbeat and if I were you I might even look at having a mod done where it's replaced with a beautiful opal? I think it would suit the face so much more and would obviously tie in with your adopted homeland. I'm currently holding out for a SBGA283 but once I have attained that I still want to grab a SARX045 and SARB035, I'm a self confessed fan boy. Love the MK attire, have a great one and keep on keeping on.
What are the other two models? I have like 8 watches but I'm paring that down to 3 or 4. Got any 3 watch recommendations for a dress/beater/dive combo?
@@dandc2011 nomos minimatik and sinn104. Tempted by dresskx, Oris Morrison Jazz limited edition, prx powermatic or the new seiko speedtimer limited edition. Keeping it to 3 is difficult!
Have you ever contacted Helson about any of their watches? I am currently considering the 38mm shark diver in titanium. They are very cool in that they have 38, 40, 42, and 45mm options, as well as steel, brass, bronze, and titanium options for the shark diver. Lots of options!
Sharp looking watch Jody. It's a dress Samurai with those angles. I had a similar experience of being at first underwhelmed by my SARB033. It really grew on me. Now I'd never part with it. As far as the rest of the SARX line goes, as you go up in diameter, the lug to lug actually drops to a hair over 46mm so I think they would actually wear better if not the same. For me, the most critical dimension in wearability is the lug to lug distance. I have an SRPC11 which is 44mm in diameter but lug to lug is only 43 and it wears perfectly on my little 6-1/2 inch wrist.
If you want lume with the same case and same dial design (different color, though), and with a regular signed crown, check out the SARX013/15/17. They're absolutely splendid.
1.) Nice new logo! 2.) I'm loving that shimmery bracelet! 3.) But if I'm looking for a dressy watch, I'd much prefer to have one smaller than 39mm. 4.) I need help finding a new watch with the following parameters...please... - No more than $200 - Has to be versatile with casual and formal attire - The type of movement doesn't quite matter to me as long as it's an accurate one. - No larger than 40mm - No more Seikos since I already have two...
The entire SARX line looks great! I have been looking at the baby grand snowflake, but I am trying to shift to smaller watches and would prefer 36-38 for watches without dive bezel/tachymeter. Still a beautiful piece. Seiko really does pattern and textured dials really well!
Discontinued SARX013 is the best alternative. Same case, same bracelet with different clasp, little bit sportier dial with some layering and touch of lume.
I'm so glad I got my SARB033 when I did. And I only paid $318 for it. I feel like the SARX line is essentially technically equivalent to the SARB, but you're paying a couple hundred more for fancy design elements... which may or may not be worth it. Also, they're all just a bit too big. That said, I love the look of the SARX043/045 and I'd be all over it if it was a couple millimeters smaller a couple hundred dollars cheaper.
I love the case and bracelet on these models but you are correct about the crown they should have kept the one from the SARX013. Try to source a signed crown for this and it will be perfect!
Thats seriously a sharp, handsome looking time piece! Throw Omega on the dail w/ swiss made under the 6 pos., watch snobs would be throwing big money at it! The way that dail plays w/natural light was fantastic to watch ' an ice cold blue killer' and them hands are spot on gorgeous!!
Really surprised you didn't mention Ap royal oak. That's all I can see with all the flat surfaces and sharp angles. Also l know what you mean about being disappointed out of the box, only to later have a watch grow on you. My steel Casio royal had that effect.
The SARX033 and SARX035 are really nice watches. The bracelet is like a Grand Seiko, and you are almost to Grand Seiko styling for a third the price. I sold both of mine, but I scour eBay for reasonable listings. The SARX055, now that was a let down (dial was meh), but the 033 (white) and 035 (black) are fire. Love it .... Do have issues with the obscene price hikes with the divers .. However there are still bargains to be had if you know what your looking for ..
Hi Jody I have ordered a sarx045 from Japan. I'm not keen on the the crown. Do you think a signed crown from sarx013 or sarx 015 would be a replacement considering same movement? If so where would I get one??
It would be a tough choice for me between this and the SARX047. Seiko does ice blue really well, but the teals and related green dials even better, probably.
Great review. Beautiful looking watch - amazing finishing and quality for the price, and yes: sharp! Puts many Swiss watches of in similar price range to shame. Unfortunately due to the very large area of the dial I fear it would look too big on my 6.5 inch wrist which is a shame, as aesthetically I feel it blows most of the other Seiko models out of the water.
I think I have settled on a SARX for my next watch. I am really torn between a new SARX045 and a used SARX015. The 015 is a weird one. Almost like it is a prototype but so pretty. The SARX015 is a black/grey dial variant with some strange differences. It has lumed hands, a lumed chapter ring on top of the gorgeous planked dial. It also has a signed crown instead of the onyx crown. I will still probably go with the 045 though. I am just really itching for a blue dial watch and I can find a new 045 for the price of a used 015. I cannot find any new 015 right now. Great video BTY!
Beautiful piece in its own right. Reminds me of a more refined SARB065 Cocktail, for just a little more money, while addressing some of the SARB's shortcomings. If only it had a sunburst dial and a sapphire caseback, I'd consider it almost perfect. Another great review, Jody!

Thanks a lot for the great reviews! I am looking for an everyday watch (from casual to business casual) and I am considering buying either the SARX045 ($550) or the SARX035 ($750). Which one do you think I should buy? The SARX045 is probably a better deal but I am afraid that the lug to lug height of 48 mm might be too big for me. My wrist is just above 6 inches (15,5 cm). I have a Hamilton Khaki Field (38mm dial and 47mm lug to lug) which I think fits me well but it also already in the limits of my wrist. .. I found the channel 6 months after this video- wow wish had had been 6-7 months earlier to pick this iced blue watch up .... a nice pale blue at a great price is so hard to find.
I agree with the sharp hands effect but you are in bad company because I am also a bit mad too :) I have to set my watches with the atomic clock and the minute hand must match up exactly with the centre of the markers when second hand hits 12 or I reset it again.
Really beautiful piece Jody! Love the almost blue color of the dial. I really wish Seiko would take the sizes down just a tad. Let me know if you end up releasing this one I may be interested.👍🏻
Great video and really useful to me as I'm currently looking at vintage Japanese domestic market watches but more of the vintage lines. The Japanese do seem to like quirky styles!
Absolutely right on the SARY055 bracelet being crap. I put mine immediately on a nice brown shell cordovan. As I would with this one as well; those bracelets are way too heavy and, somehow, they are bland and don't do justice to the "dressiness" of the watch... cheers for another good review mate!
If you think the SARX043 is the best JDM Seiko then you haven't looked at the SARX055 which is ACTUALLY the best JDM Seiko and I'll tell you why: It offers everything the SARX043 does and then more - titanium construction (lighter), better bracelet, dauphin hands closer to the SARBs (better than the Daniel Wellington-esque hands on that SARX043, I'm sorry to say), beautiful washi-textured dial, blued seconds hand, "S" signatured crown (that odd onyx crown shouldn't be there on the 043) and most likely a better resale value due to its "Baby Snowflake" recognition.. The only thing the 043 has going for it is price and slightly smaller (but only by 1mm). But I can say the SARX055 will fit nicely on a 6.5 inch wrist, no problems. Also, tip on adjusting the Seiko bracelets. The small links are 2/3 links, not 1/2 links. So size it with the full links as close as you can get it to your wrist. Then: * If slightly tight, remove one link and replace with two 2/3 links (increases size by 1/3). * If too loose, remove one link and replace with one 2/3 link (decreases size by 1/3). Put the 2/3 links on either side of the clasp if adding them, otherwise you ruin the symmetry of the bracelet if you put them further up.
Jody can you do a review on the Seiko SARX049? The white enamel dial and flamed dials with moon counterweight look interesting though not many other RUclipsrs have taken a look at it. Yours, Adlan
It looks a whole lot like the Cadisen C1032. Not a bad thing but I still prefer the Cadisen as I love the sunburst effect it has. Very nice watch though 👍🏻

I was wondering where Jody went, I was missing your Aussie reviews
If you think the SARX043 is the best JDM Seiko then you haven't looked at the SARX055 which is ACTUALLY the best JDM Seiko and I'll tell you why:
It offers everything the SARX043 does and then more - titanium construction (lighter), better bracelet, dauphin hands closer to the SARBs (better than the Daniel Wellington-esque hands on that SARX043, I'm sorry to say), beautiful washi-textured dial, blued seconds hand, "S" signatured crown (that odd onyx crown shouldn't be there on the 043) and most likely a better resale value due to its "Baby Snowflake" recognition..
Then:
* If slightly tight, remove one link and replace with two 2/3 links (increases size by 1/3).
* If too loose, remove one link and replace with one 2/3 link (decreases size by 1/3).
Put the 2/3 links on either side of the clasp if adding them, otherwise you ruin the symmetry of the bracelet if you put them further up.

Please do the seiko skx013 movement upgrade. No one has done it on youtube for the skx013. Otherwise great video.
If I remember correctly, it's made a little more complex with different date window locations on the dials?
Hello sir, great video!
May I suggest a topic? Can you do a review on orient / seiko or other brand’s president day date watches. I always want that watch its blingy and classy.
Thank you sir. You’re the best!
Great video and review
Great job Jody!
Looking at the latest crop of JDMs, can't believe I paid $310US for my sarb035!
MechaTex nice purchase!
Jody, what is the next level up in their JDM catalog???
Can you please review the Orient Soma? Im thinking of buying one but I think I need an insight or a nice review especially from you. Please help and review the watch...
Beautiful watch love it 👍 thanks Jody 😁
Just ordered the SARX047 and so meddling impatience brought me here. Now... where did that odd mixture of excitement and trepidation come from?!
I like it, but I prefer the SARB033 and 035.
Very tasty! Thanks for review.
Gorgeous. Nice, clean and simple, but it looks big and so not viable for me.
This is a proper "looker" on your wrist.
Excellent review.
9:30 AM here in the States. Starting my weekend with a mug of Earl Grey, a new episode of "Just one more watch" and the risk of a lower bank balance depending on this review. Cheer Jody! ( check out the Nodus brand on Massdrop at the moment, stats look nice, I'd enjoy hearing your input)
I can't tell if that's pale blue or silver! It feels like its trying to be a grand Seiko. If only we could get an extra close up on they hands to check out the polishing!
It is a sharp Looker!
Your Psycho for Psyeiko's!
Beauty JOMW, perfect watch for a Heatwave.
If I add shipping and taxes to Germany, we are very close to the 800,-€ of a Sinn 556...
Would you say it’s sharper as the Sinn...?!!???
Nice watch and good review
hey man please do a review on the Lorus watch brand! it's a brand made by Seiko and it's really affordable
Love the t-shirt!
