Great to see the build progressing again.

Thanks Drew. Was held up waiting on parts from here and there and I’m not the sort of person that likes waiting, I’d rather gather everything I need first and then get stuck in. Got the r380 box out today and the transfer box so will post another video or two in the next day or so all going to plan.

Thanks Ned. That’s the purpose of these videos, not looking for likes or subscribers, just trying to make a few videos to help anyone else that fancies doing this conversion in the future.

For no other reason other than I want to do this P38 up for touring Europe so want to make her as reliable as possible.

I’m about to do a 3.0 conversion in my P38, can you use the mounts off the M51 on the M57? I’ve bought the unlocked ECU and loom kit and I have an engine, my 2.5 has just cracked the head

Yes the driver side P38 mount lines right up, you have to fabricate the passenger side one. Go to the vehicles Instagram page “RangeRoverP38IRL” and scroll back and there are videos and pics of every part of the engine conversion.

that’s a serious project- not for the faint hearted .. why not just trade it in for a L322 rangie ?

Had an L322 which I restored as my daily driver for 4yrs which I sold a few months back which you’re welcome to check out on Instagram “RangeRoverL322IRL”, they are a great 4x4 but in my opinion not a patch on the P38.

Why the different oil pan if the Blocks are the same ? I like the idea of more power but its a shitstorm of fiddlin to get it to work! Also the Thor 3 speed auto from a 4.6 P38 is advised

The original M57 has the same bolt pattern as the M51 so will mate up to the r380 box but this is the M57N which is different. The reason for changing the oil pan is because the one that comes on the M57N will strike the front differential (I guess I should have pointed that out in the video). So to counteract this problem, the e83 X3 oil pan was a good option because it can be altered and re-welded in a way that it avoids the diff but yet there isn’t enough cutting involved to where it might lose any strength. This engine and box is a good setup for what I want from this P38 and what I’m looking for. Didn’t want to go automatic and as my P38 was originally a 5 speed manual this 6 speed manual suits what I’m after.
