I love the Dixie Chicks version of this song…the instrumental in their version makes it so emotional ❤❤
I will keep that in mind, thanks!
Check out( His name is Jesus)by Cody
As a disabled veteran I have lost a couple of my military brothers who never came home. This song always brings tears to my eyes because for those who haven't been there you just can't fully understand.
Thank you for your service! This song always makes me cry. I went back to work after hearing this and folks looked at me funny.
Aussie combat vet
Totally understand brother l also lost some downrange brothers,
For those that fight for it life has a flavour the protected will never know 🇦🇺🇺🇸
We can't understand. Doesn't mean we don't hurt for family that died before we were born, some of us were named for. I am Canadian. Generations of military service both sides of my family.
When we loose a father or uncle or brother that name is passed on along with the memories of who they were. It is alot to live up to.

l absolutely understand your view ma’am & no disrespect is intended towards your family members that’ve served but military service & active combat is a very unique world 🇦🇺🇺🇸
@@Athainian1973 I am sorry. I never meant any disrespect. I also come from a huge family with long lines of military service and I I understand about names being passed down. Bless your family and all of those who have served.
Great storytelling, great voice . I like that he didn't switch up the lyrics to reference Iraq or Afghanistan - the Vietnam vets often weren't treated well on their return. The recruit was depressed, not the waitress. The Chicks version is really chilling - one of their best songs, and their three-part harmony works really well for this. Soldier died, and the only person who remembers him is the piccolo player in the marching band.

Thank you ma’am for your appreciation of veterans🇦🇺🇺🇸
Britt you should hear Cody and Reba at CMA Fest this year did “ Whoever’s in New England”. It was fantastic!
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
Yes! As I was watching that, I immediately thought of Britt. I know she'll love it. The song is one of Reba's from the 80s. One of her best.
Yes he was killed in action. As a 22 year retired Air Force veteran, thank you for appreciating veterans.
The Chick's version is amazing. Home Free also did a version with it being a female soldier and more currant ☮️
If you want to hear a female perspective but not necessarily the Dixie Chicks version, Aaron Lewis (lead singer of Staind) released several country albums and on one of them he covered this song but his daughter is the one who sang it. It works so well!
How crazy is life, I just asked my son in St. Louis what he did this past week and he said he took his girlfriend to see Cody Johnson who I never heard of till today on your channel .
I love life u never know what it will bring. have a great day.
what a coincidence !! so cool they got to go to a concert tho!!
Commenting only to say your hair looks amazing!
thank you!
This song makes me bawl like a baby! It always gets to me!! ❤❤❤❤😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. I think you’d love the Chicks version!!
Originally a Bruce Robison song made famous by the Dixie Chick's. Great song and since cody is a Texan he grew up under the Robison Brothers Charlie and Bruce
Oh, this song gets me EVERY TIME 😭😭
The Dixie Chics version is much easier to understand.
He’s my absolute favorite country artist! You gotta give his cover of “shameless” a listen! It’s amazing.. also “nothing on you” from his “live album” is definitely panty dropper vibes haha
I will keep those in mind, thanks!
When I first heard this song hit home for me...Having served in the Navy as field medic for eight years deployed over seas for months at time you can't imagine how much a letter or a call from home means to a service member...You could have had the worse day and you get that letter or a call from home and suddenly your on top of world...When I was deployed my wife and would Valentine Day cards to each other...One year I had to send her one a couple months early. Well when I got to base from a mission there was a card waiting for me...I opened it up and it was the card I had sent to her I thought that maybe i put the wrong address down but I opened it had a letter on it that she had wrote.I thought would she send me my card back and I noticed mail was a few days before I had sent my card...Its wild but we had picked out the same card and sent it to each other...and after she passed I still have both of them in a frame.
Did you know Home Free did a role swap version of this song? The guy is waiting back home for the soldier girl. They released it for Memorial Day a few years ago.
Home Free does an a capella version that sounds amazing. You should listen to it
DV here. I lost 3 brothers in Iraq. RIP SSG Thornton, SSG Mathesda, and SPC Cummings. See you when I get to Fiddler's Green.
Great reaction Britt. As a former Marine I'd like to suggest you check out Jason Isbell, Dress Blues. Great song from what may be the best song writer of our generation. Jason writes some other level songs such as Elephant, If We Were Vampires among so many others.
Song is always a tear jerker.. listen to the Chix version.
Vietnam was such a tough war. It was so so politicized and the soldiers were treated horribly when they came “home”. America had “citizens” that would go there and denounce the US Govt and US soldiers that were there fighting.
Great song Cody did a fantastic job.love you're video reactions Miss Britt may God bless.
Even the Dixie Chicks version was even a cover. The first version was by the song’s writer, Bruce Robison, who was a Texas country singer/songwriter. Then it was covered by another country artist, Ty England, sometime later. Then the Dixie Chicks covered it, and just happened to have the biggest hit with it.
More than 58,000 American service members came home that way between 1963 & 1975.
Love the attention to cody. His first sebum was in 2009 and so many great songs every since . Think you would like " my way to you" or " nothin on you"
Listen to the original her voice is one of the best country voices.
Very kind suggestion: The Fighter by Keith ( PDC Member) Urban, with Carrie Underwood. But you have to do the one from the CMA Awards. You will love the audience shots and be smiling more than you always do.
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
Beautifully sad 😔
You have to do “By Your Grace”, it’s a powerful song.
this song breaks me Every Damn Time.
The song was released originally by thw Dixie Chick's. One of the members of the Dixie chick's brother-in-law wrote the song. His name is Bruce Robison. Bruce's original version was great as well.
This is ok, but I think the Chicks version is better. Just personal preference. The official video version is taken from concert footage, and everything about it will pull on your heartstrings, from the plaintive harmonies on the chorus, to the wistfulness when singing the solder's parts, to the musical arrangement. Fiddle, steel and acoustic guitar, mandolin, and snare drum blend with other sounds to create a musical set on which the story plays out.
*tl/dr: story and a bit of ranting below*
The story of Vietnam is a really low point in US history. We shouldn't have been there, we weren't prepared for the kind of fight that was going on, and it was incredibly unpopular back home. Sadly, far too many people took their anger about it out on the soldiers, who were just following their orders and many were drafted, not volunteers. You'll hear references to the terrible situation during and after the war for vets in a lot of songs from the 80s, like "Born in the USA" and "Give Me Something to Believe In".
It's all very personal to me, because my dad is a Vietnam Vet and it has continued to impact him to this day. He has never opened up about anything specific that happened, just generalities. He lost all his personal possessions when his bunk was destroyed by an enemy mortar, thankfully not when he was sleeping or relaxing in it. He also got multiple citations for bravery for actions under enemy fire. He played those off by saying they gave them out any time they found a bullet hole in a helicopter after a mission, he was a mechanic and helicopter crew in the Airborne, but cross-referencing it with other stories he did tell (always with a comedic spin), the mortar attack wasn't the only time he came under enemy fire and he did earn the merits.
Now, in his retirement, he had to have surgery for prostate cancer that has affected his quality of life, and he has increasing memory issues, with no family history of either. The cancer is directly linked to agent orange exposure, to the point where men of his age group are the only group in the 'Over 50s' in the US where cancer is the leading cause of death, rather than heart disease as it is for all other men and women over 50. Agent Orange also doubles the risk of dementia in vets versus other groups, and is probably what he is heading towards with his memory issues. It can also increase the chance of Type 2 diabetes, which he also developed in spite of never being considered obese. Thankfully, we have a good VA hospital here and he has full veteran's benefits that cover everything, but none of that can fix his memory, his diabetes, or his other complications. Vietnam is the war that keeps on giving.
As others have said, the Chicks version is great, but if you want to talk upgrades, did you know the guys from Home Free have a video of their version of this as well. Keep up the great reactions. Love from South Carolina
You need to play live version of dear rodeo in Houston rodeo where he rides off on a horse
Dear Rodeo is amazing! gives a little background on COJO
Watch him do a cover of Vince gills song “when I call your name” at the grand ole opry! A song that few can cover well because of Vince’s voice but Cody really stretches out the notes in it.
Check out “Never Go Home Again” by Cody. Great song, and a different one that others might not suggest.
The last letter said the soldier is coming home to be buried.
Please, please, please, Miss Britt, check or Nothing On You. I would love to see you react to that! Please do the acoustic version. That is when Cody and his band really show their talent! Thank you!
One thing about this video it’s a clip from a Facebook live event he did during Covid played like 3 hours straight covers new songs but the audio set up wasn’t the best
This song was written by Bruce Robison.
that is awesome, thanks for letting me know!
Welcome to our Texas brand of music, COJO cut his teeth in the E.Texas tonks 🎻
“A violin”😂🤣 fiddle*
Charlie Robison another great artist and Bruce’s brother was married to one of the Chicks when they released this.
The Chicks version is awesome
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
Now Home Free version flipped to female soldier!!!
Do his song by your grace guarantee you wont regret it! Imo one of his best songs
"Home Free" covered this but from a female soldiers perspective.
I live the Chicks version, but his is also excellent.
Gotta do dear rodeo
Probably not enlisting, in this context, which is Vietnam.
I heard Tyler Englands version before the DIXIE Chicks came out with their version. Keep going down that CoJo rabbit hole.
Actually a Bruce Robison cover.
Home Free does a great version of this too.
Check out country raised by ur boy Upchurch
Hi... you must jumpin' to chakra khan who singer from indonesia on AGT!!
The original by the Dixie Chicks is the best.
this song is great, and you are as great if not greater mlove. please forgive me for my transgressions.
This us a Bruce Robison song not the dixie chicks.
i knew about the Dixie Chicks version but not this one.
Check out Aaron Lewis and his daughter's version.
Britt, I've noticed I can't hear you hardly at all on the last few videos you have dun. I will admit I'm watching through my phone, witch dousnt go very loud. & I am hard of hearing however, I never had a problem before with your videos.
Not to take anything away from Cody Johnson, but you HAVE to hear the original by the Dixie Chicks
Listen to Home Free's version will make you 😢
since the last time i made a fool of myself about you, i must apologize. you are a great woman, on the right side of heaven. i hope you can forgive me.
nobody died btw
The Dixie Chicks did the song the best.Hands down
The fast pace loses the emotion for me... But his voice is really good.
Can't be in his uniform until after Boot Camp, otherwise he would be eating in the mess hall
This good, but the Dixie Chick's really nailed this song. It's just too bad they turned anti American.
This is a cover of the original written and performed by the (Dixie) Chicks - chk them out!!
I love your videos but the sound in this one is pretty bad.
perhaps you should ask yourself what perspective is being listened to at the time you are listening to it, before you buffoon yourself.
the game was written by the dixie chicks. it was originally from a womans perspective. saying you want to hear it from a womans perspective when listening to it from a mans perspective is idiotic. more girl boss bozo point of view.
