Lyrics [Verse 1] Two days past eighteen He was waitin' on a bus in his army greens Sat down in a booth in a cafe there Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair He's a little shy so she give him a smile And he said, "Would you mind sittin' down for a while And talkin' to me? Thank you to your father and to your family’s sacrifice. As a former soldier, I’ve found a lot of people are thankful for service members but don’t realize how much their families also give. Military wives, sons, and daughters carry so much worry, anxiety, and heartache and deserve a lot of appreciation. Thank you
Honestly, this song hits close to home when you have a family member in the Army. My cousin recently joined right after he got out of high school, and I was scared because I didn't know if he would be coming home. This song is a good one and I like the original, but I also love this cover. Thank you Cody Johnson.

Former active duty Army Infantryman. Saw your show in Midland Texas, March 2019. After the show you put on, and the words you said about military and first responders is the reason why you will always be one of my favorite artists that inspires me everyday with your music. Your music inspires me to want to continue the pursuit of singing country no matter how long it takes for me to make it and one day hear one of my own songs on the radio.
Song hits home because my grandma was the girl getting letters from Vietnam…I can’t imagine how she felt when her local news would read that list. She tells me all the time her and my grandpa are lucky for him coming home
He killed this so hard. Everything this man touches is gold, literally its just mind blowing. And just an amazing powerful voice. Man is doing country music the way it should be.

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Two days past eighteen
He was waitin' on a bus in his army greens
Sat down in a booth in a cafe there
Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair
He's a little shy so she give him a smile
And he said, "Would you mind sittin' down for a while
And talkin' to me? I'm feelin' pretty low"
She said "I'm off in an hour and I know a place we can go"
So they went down and sat on the pier
He said "I bet you got a boyfriend, but I don't care
Cause I got no one, to send a letter to
Would you mind if I sent one back here to you?"
[Chorus]
I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
"Too young for him," they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Nevermore to be alone
When the letter says, "A soldier's comin' home"
[Verse 2]
So the letters came from an army camp
In California then Vietnam
And he told her of his heart, it might be love
And all of the things he was so scared of
He said, "When it's gettin' kinda rough over here
I sit and think about that day on the pier
And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile
Don't worry but I won't be able to write for a while"
[Chorus]
I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
"Too young for him," they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Nevermore to be alone
When the letter says, "A soldier's comin' home"
[Verse 3]
One Friday night at a football game
The Lord's Prayer said and the anthem sang
And a man said, "Folks, would you bow your heads
For a list of local Vietnam dead?"
Well, cryin' all alone underneath the stands
Was a piccolo player in the marchin' band
And one name read, and nobody really cared
Except that pretty little girl with a bow in her hair
[Chorus]
And I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
"Too young for him," they told her

loll too true
The voice of this man rings in my head when he starts.
This one is without a doubt the best version of the song. He really poured his heart and soul into it. God bless the US armed forces!

we can’t forget the original either. without them, this song wouldn’t be here ❤️
The rest of mainstream country needs to take notice of what this guy is doing! THIS is what real country is!!
He's not really doing anything new. This is cover of the Dixie Chicks song. It's a good song but remakes aren't new thing.

My mom used to play the og version of this song while my dad was in Afghanistan it still makes me tear up thinking of how it sucks to have a loved on across seas. Couldn’t be more thankful to call a soldier dad though.
If your pops is still around, tell him I said thanks for his service
Thank him for his service and his courage. ❤🕊💙
please thank your father for his service 🙏 much respect for him 🇺🇸
Thank you to your father and to your family’s sacrifice. As a former soldier, I’ve found a lot of people are thankful for service members but don’t realize how much their families also give. Military wives, sons, and daughters carry so much worry, anxiety, and heartache and deserve a lot of appreciation. Thank you
Oh man you really set the onions out 😢
We need a whole album of influential covers. This dude can’t miss I swear.

Honestly, this song hits close to home when you have a family member in the Army. My cousin recently joined right after he got out of high school, and I was scared because I didn't know if he would be coming home. This song is a good one and I like the original, but I also love this cover. Thank you Cody Johnson.

Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Nevermore to be alone

"Too young for him," they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again

Former active duty Army Infantryman. Saw your show in Midland Texas, March 2019. After the show you put on, and the words you said about military and first responders is the reason why you will always be one of my favorite artists that inspires me everyday with your music. Your music inspires me to want to continue the pursuit of singing country no matter how long it takes for me to make it and one day hear one of my own songs on the radio.
Song hits home because my grandma was the girl getting letters from Vietnam…I can’t imagine how she felt when her local news would read that list. She tells me all the time her and my grandpa are lucky for him coming home
This. Is. Killer.
CoJo never disappoints.
He killed this so hard. Everything this man touches is gold, literally its just mind blowing. And just an amazing powerful voice. Man is doing country music the way it should be.
Listening to some cody songs man some of his songs are awesome has a similar voice to Tim mcgraw
