This song was written by the great Bruce Robison, whose brother Charlie was married to one of the Dixie Chicks who made the song popular.
He is wonderful. I have seen him in the tiniest of honky tonks to now. So very proud of this hometown boy. Extremely talented. Listen to his song Dear Rodeo.

Bruce Robison was the brother in law of one of the sisters in the DIxie Chicks (Now known as the Chicks). Emily was married to Charlie Robison at the time. It was the Chick's final number one (At least so far). The song was sitting on top when controversial comments by lead singer Natalie Maines brought the trio falling from grace... They are still together,and every bit as, if not even more talented as ever, but only at a fraction of their former popularity.

Never heard this cover of this song, it's my second favorite version next to Home Free's version.
I like his version of the song better than the original which was sang by the Dixi Chicks. As a veteran who had to write home and watch others letters be sent home without them this song means a lot and hits a soft spot.
