My Playlist for The Hollies! • The Hollies
In this Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress) guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this massive hit from The Hollies note-for-note.
    The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.
I will take you through each section of "Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)" in the order that each appears on the original recording. I will start with the arpeggio picked intro followed by that classic main riff. This main riff has a couple guitars on it, and I will cover both parts.
The tricky part to this song is the how varied the timing of the chord changes are during the verse and chorus sections. So I will demonstrate in-depth how to count out those sections so that you know precisely how long to play each chord.
Have fun learning this early seventies chart topper! Carl...

Very impressive. That is not an easy song to play. You do not see a lot of cover bands playing that one because the guitar is somewhat difficult. You played it fantastic. And a great lesson. Merry Christmas.

One of the finest guitar intros ever! And such a great song that sounds as cool and rockin' today as did back in the seventies. Would love to have met that Long Cool Woman. I have never gotten tired of covering this.....ever! You can make that riff sound so mean and nasty. Excellent lesson, sir.

Oh Hell yeah Thank you! I've been running on my half baked version of this since I did my best to pick it out by ear 43 years ago off vinyl after I'd been playing for 2 years. I've never bothered to do better since. It's one of my fave guitar parts in rock, so thanks to you, I'll finally pick up the nuances I missed back in the stone age.

Awesome lesson as always, I was playing it wrong for years. You straightened me out on the timing and a couple notes I was doing wrong. I do kind of an AC/DC G and A thing in the verse instead of the voicing your doing too. Your playing is amazing and so damn effortless. Thanks for all you do.

Carl , I have searched and tried many different guitar instructors on RUclips and live in person and I will honestly say that you are in my opinion which is 59 years in the making and I’ve been playing on and off since I was about 13. I started because of KISS’ Ace Frehley and to be quite frank I should be able to play amazingly and I absolutely suck. I’m getting ready to attempt to start from the beginning and learn what I need and fix what I do wrong. I’m going to continue to play songs you give instruction on and I want to go back and learn things about playing that can help me play the songs I want to play no matter how difficult it is. I would love to join your guitar lessons but I don’t know where I should really start is there a way I can converse with you privately about your classes and your opinion on where I should start. Thanks I truly hope you see this comment and get back to me. I’m always home, I’m a disabled vet and cancer patient so honestly when I’m not feeling like crap I have nothing better to do. I love your site and how you instruct so I’m looking forward to doing this. Thanks buddy
