- In my opinion, this week's “Remake of a Classic” has one of the coolest guitar intros ever written...and it's harder than it looks (for me, at least). "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" (also titled "Long Cool Woman") by The Hollies was released in 1971 on the band's album, “Distant Light”. It peaked at number two in the U.S. and number 32 in the UK (which seems odd since The Hollies were a British band).
On the day “Long Cool Woman” was recorded at Air Studios, producer Ron Richard was ill, and as a result the band ended up producing the tune (when Richard returned he did the mixing). The song is a departure from other songs by The Hollies in that it only has one vocal line...instead of the usual three-part harmonies they were known for (just give a listen to “Carrie Ann” or “Bus Stop”). Writer and guitarist Allan Clarke said the song was intentionally written in the style of CCR, and he actually tried to sing like Fogerty (again, listen to their other tunes...none of the vocals is like this one).
Other than the intro there's really nothing musically ground-breaking or difficult in this tune....it's really the effects that give it the 'feel'. Most of the videos I do take between eight to 10 hours from start to finish...this one only took 4.

"...and it's harder than it looks." Tony Hicks, the Hollies lead guitarist, said the same thing. After fluffing it, he told Allan, "Here, you play it since you wrote it." Saw that on a RUclips interview with Tony.

Hi, just sent that to my young lad, Aaron,25,has been into music from an early age when he was 14yrs off age,he had an outfit called,THE CRAVES,in Dublin, and at the time I was djaying and organizing gig's in Dublin, and I gave them their first gig's at one of my club night's called, ABLE ARCHER, put I had to be All the band members chaperone in the club because the manager of the venue wouldn't let them play otherwise, I had to start it a little early in the evenings,and at one point they had around 5/6 hundred youths coming to see them, but they broke up, but my young lad was still making alot of music and the guys are doing stuff again, hoping to start gigging soon, point being he has matured his sound, because he's listening to A lot more influences and I'm sure he's gonna really like this tune you covered again brilliant

I was looking for guitar demos of this song & just happened to come across this ... this is pretty damn good !!! Imo , singing it well is the hardest part of playing a good cover of this song. You sing it well ... good job.
