At this point I feel the developers are just promoting female assassins in a rush, frankly I don’t mind if they are canon but I just wish they would take the damn time to develop a good story for that female assassin like how they focused on Altair and Ezio solo, no gender choosing shit. Vikings were predominantly male, shield maidens were actually a rarity as they mostly guarded small settlements when there was a lack of manpower, yet female combatants in the Viking world were more common than female Anglo-Saxon warriors for instance, so it’s not totally immersion breaking. However male Eivour seems more plausible in the gameplay considering the type of challenges and interactions (apart from the out of place homosexuality) the player goes through. I would have preferred a more tailored experience for female and male characters which are more historically/biologically accurate. It’s totally immersion breaking when female Eivour can outmatch a 6ft tall Saxon Thegn with her sheer strength and deep voice. I’d argue that the female Eivour should have more assassination/dialogue perks and buffs & strength handicaps. Then male Eivour having more Vikinger perks & assassination handicaps. I think it would cause for more strategic play especially for a female character which would be more accurate and probably more enjoyable.
I also suspect that the devs knew making this a female only experience with their current character model would have been an epic failure, despite the gameplay being the same as the male version, I find that very telling.

Literally no one is pushing any agenda. Women just exist and having female protagonists is actually better than trying to uphold the patriarchy by inferring it was only males that did anything noteworthy throughout history and only males can be heroes.
Hiring Travis Fimmle wouldn't "break the internet" just because he was in Vikings. Don't be ridiculous. Also both Eivor's are exactly the same character really. They both have the same dialogue and nothing at all about the story changes. There's no agenda pushed especially when you literally have a choice.

I still think that male Eivor just captures the Viking more, partially because the female voice isn’t that good.
The other reason is that, Vikings are probably the most masculine warrior one could think of; dirty, brash, living an extremely rural lifestyle. It’s for similar reasons that the GTA series has no male antagonists.
With a female protagonist, the best was easily Aya. A female protagonist would be best portrayed with a more civilized and smart kind of warrior, like Aya, Aveline, Kassandra, and Evie. All are Assassins of much more civilized and intelligent groups, which is where female protagonists are the most convincing. Let’s be honest, who wants a loud, nasty protagonist, especially female. Male Eivor was a lot more 3-dimensional. I do agree that we need more female protagonists, this just wasn’t the game for it.

Okay, I actually did a follow up video on this, There is more stuff.
      > As for the sage point, there is another sage who has a different gender, Sif. So it isn't as isolated as I thought(Also I didn't realise that sif actually had a reincarnation.
      > There is another proof with the bleeding effect. Basim actually sees Eivor in MD, Due to the bleeding effect, and that is also a lady. So that basically confirms that She is in fact canon.
      >The name Eivor is female so that just adds to all of this
As for her VA, I personally prefer Magnus Brunn's performance so I played as the male version. at the end of the day, we do have that option so there is that.
And yes we start of with a child who has a buzz cut, but it isn't explicit that the child is a boy. There is no reason why a little girl can't get that haircut(Tho I would definitely feel sorry for the poor girl xD)
Canon is more of a theoretical thing. It's how writers intended things to work. The whole point of an RPG is that we can make our own stories, hwoever we are bound by the constraints placed by the writers and in the case of these recent "RPG"s there are waay too many such constraints.
So in AC lore, Odin's reincarnation is a woman, Sif's reincarnation(halfdan) is a man. So far these are the two sages who have had this behaviour(that I know).
This part is a spoiler for Mirage so skip it if you haven't played:
Now with the additional context of mirage, We also saw that loki manifests as Nehal for Basim. So things aren't really as clear cut as it seemed at first. Again they were essentially experimenting with things and there is always a chance of things working out weirdly

Shield maiden is an interesting concept, so I don't mind. However, since Eivor Varinsdottir is female name anyway, they should have just proceeded with it. Instead, they add the choice of male protagonist without even bothering to give him a male name, and if you chose male character, you basically play as a bloke whose last name is daughter of Varin. xD AC Valhalla is quite good game, but I think they should have used that time and effort elsewhere than creating the mechanics that makes no sense whatsoever. Eivor Origin and Meaning
The name Eivor is both a boy's name and a girl's name meaning "careful island; island defender; good luck".
Traditionally a feminine name in Scandinavian culture, where these days it's mostly considered a grandmother name. Americans may associate it with Eivor Varinsdottir, a character from Assassain's Creed. She is likely the inspiration for the six sets of parents who gave this name to their sons in 2021 - no girls named Eivor were recorded.
this shows that just because the character name is eivor doesn't mean its automatically a female there are many situation where female eivor makes no sense at all plus the male voice is much better and the armors looks better on him . im sure the only reason eivor last name is varinsdottir is because they can say female is canon to please certain

Yes, she's indeed canon, but unfortunately Ubisoft doesn't seem ready to implement a solo female main character in their main game. You can see this being done to a lesser extent in AC Valhalla, but in AC Odyssey it's very clear who the canon playable character is -fake coughs Cassandra-, the same can be said about Origins, why focus on Bayek when you have motherfuckin' Amunet aka AYA. I think Valhalla was more enjoyable with male Eivor but the truth is they should've put all the effort into canon Eivor.

@@SirNoobWulf from what I've heard their justification is that the player base is mostly male so to them men wouldn't be able to connect and or empathize with a female lead, which is absolute bs.
Yes, we did enjoy male Eivor compared to his female alternative, but that's not because he's a man, that's because they focused more resources and talent to the male character, if they wanted to focus on a male Eivor then just make male Eivor canon, no need to have a convoluted system that let's you pick and choose if you want to be male or female.
Stick with one character for fucks sake. At least the reasoning and effects of this is much lesser than in Odyssey for example, where you can choose which sibling you play as, which would be fine if the story changed depending on which one you chose. Alexios should be Deimos, and that would add a whole lot more replayability to the game.
I also dislike the direction they're taking the franchise, with open world RPG and decision making, the Assassin's Creed saga has always been about reliving events from the past, not changing it, you don't play as Eivor, you play as Layla who is relieving Eivor's memories, not making choices.
All we can do is wait and see what they'll do with AC Infinity but I don't expect anything good from it.

    • @SirNoobWulf
      @SirNoobWulf  2 года назад +2

Yeah, and even that justification falls flat when they realize games like Zero dawn and Tomb raider exist and are better games than whatever mediocre dumpster fire Ubi has been putting out.
And also about Odyssey, I absolutely wanted that. But no instead they decided to put little thought or effort and created plotholes and straight up broke the lore. Deimos showing up as Alexios in the modern day is absolutely ridiculous cuz no matter what trickery you use in the Animus, It doesn't change modern day xD
I have no hope whatsoever for this franchise anymore. Infinity is just going to be another mindless drivel with microtransactions filled to boot and Just enough of the "Assassin's Creed" features half heartedly shoved in there so that they can show it off in the trailers and never actually use them.

Now, I completely agree that the voice acting of the female was terrible, they shouldve gotten a better one.
However, I did play as female Eivor, and I also played Odyssey as Kassandra. Just because I like playing these games as the female characters. Lol but the reason they are including the females in these types of games is because of the whole WOKENESS cultrue and PC bullcrap now a days. But at least in Odyssey it had the sibling option which gave the story more of an interesting Greek tale. However you were addressed by proper pronouns and such.
Valhalla doesn't hit that mark because it's the same character but only addressed in one way. It takes you out of the moment. It isn't about male vs female protagonists it's about giving the option meaning.

AC Odyssey and AC Valhalla made me so mad with their cannon gender, because on both of these games female warriors make no sense. Let's start with Odyssey. There were no spartan women warriors in ancient Greece, but while I play the game they are everywhere. I couldn't even play as a Cassandra in this game, because her being main character made no sense story wise, even though her voice actor was better. Women in ancient Greece barelly had any freedom and I really got mad that this game forced equality in the place and time where there was none of it. Sorry, but women were not free on those times and couldn't do what they wanted. Sure if they wanted to make Cassandra the main character in that game, they could have fixed that by making her the only female warrior running around and saying the story about how hard it was for her to become a warrior, because she is a women and women aren't allowed, also when you interact with other characters they could have made comments about her a female being a warrior/fighter. But now there are no comments about that it is the same dialogue as you play for male.
AC Valhalla is not as bad as AC Odyssey, but even though viking women had more freedoms, most of fighters were men. Even if there were any female viking warriors there was not that many, but while I play the game I see almost half of them. Plus, I believe if you play as a female you should get those comments when you fight that a woman warrior can't defeat you, because they are weaker and so on. Now we get none of it.
AC 1 devs removed crossbow from their game, because it was historically innacurate and now we get so much bullshit in the last 2 AC games... I just can't play as a female in both of those games, because historically it makes no sense for them to be female :/

If game developers wanted a female protagonist, then why put the male counterpart on the front cover and make him the selling point? There were plenty of female Vikingr doing plenty of fighting, it is most certainly historically accurate, ALSO female Eivor is way better than male.

I personally prefer the Male VA. My biggest problem is obviously the Odin connection. I still feel like Sif or Freya would have been a great option to be Eivor's ISU counterpart

Thats your opinion and i respect that. But the way it was exicuted, it felt like it was fitted for male eivor but ubi said the female version was canon just so twitter and "game journalists" wouldn't blow thier top.

And in the book for this game they straight out call her shieldmaiden or a female viking and they did exist tons of sagas written about them look it up and if you need me to I can give you some names

Its not that, Its as I said in the video, The things that they have done in the seem counterintuitive to female eivor being canon in the game.
Like You had Freyja in the game, why not make eivor her reincarnation instead of odin? Surely that would have fit in much better.
