      If you don't add too much extra water, you could cook the meat and veg in one pot, noodles in another pot, and stir together once everything is done. (Maybe request as a gift? In any case, be sure to ask for an Instant Pot BRAND pot--not a knock off /cheaper one!)

      artificial sweetener (at the end) when finished, the sugar is meant to balance out the acidity. Or none, it certainly works w/o. Or use good quality tomatoes they have naturally more sugar. Or add a can of water instead of 1 can of tomatoes, you _can_ add powdered paprika (I think 1 or 2 level spoons) for color and taste (which will be a different taste, but it is good a fit). It will be a little thinner, so you can slightly reduce the other water.
      Or give 1 or 2 peeled whole potatoes into the dish, they will not change the taste much, BUT likely will absorb some of the acid. then there is the option to add pieces of pumpkin or canned punkin puree. (again a slightly different taste but it will counteract the slightly sour taste of the tomatoes.
      I am getting hungry as I type, I have to test the pumpkin version. Plus once with the sugar (which I would rather avoid) to have a base line how the original tastes.

    I have the Ultra and if I used that much tomato sauce (especially as the bottom layer) I would so get the dreaded "burn" notice. Any idea how to limit this? Perhaps use low pressure and longer time?
    Love your channel!

    • @xyzsame4081
      @xyzsame4081 4 года назад

      Make it on the stove, you can brown the meat better, have it simmer (mainly for flavor, when the meat is brown 10 minutes simmer would be the minimum time to form a sauce, but it gets better the longer you simmer/cook it. and then add the noodles, they do not take long - if there is enough fluid not longer than cooking them with water.
      I recommend to cook the noodles very al dente they tend to get softer. Leftover noodles in the dish WILL be soft even if they were hardly cooked enough the first time, they continue to soften in the warm fluid.
      The heat transmission is better (and faster) on the stove and there are no ingredients that "require" long cooking times (the pressure shortens that) to be edible, or would profit from steam. (Maybe the pressure treatment compensates for the Italian way of cooking ground beef loooong with tomatoes, for a pasta sauce). If you brown the beef nicely (for taste) it is already cooked and fit to be eaten (not raw), and corn and tomatoes, and diced onions could be eaten as is / out of the can.
      Tastewise it is better to simmer long together (resp. you can add the corn LATER).
      you can have the long simmer the day before, let it stand on the stove, leave a tight fitting lid on (or a large enough plate) 5 minutes after the last time you opened, shut off heat and leave stand. If you are paranoid avoid opening (it will not rot if you do, but maybe you feel better about food safety when you imitate canning conditions.
      Yes really. I have done that many times, and no you will not die from food poisoning. Not even when meat is in it provided the dish has been near boiling point for at least 5 minutes, you sort of pasteurized it (that means even if chicken had salmonella on it they are dead now). If you have larger pieces of meat you should add some time so it can get fairly hot inside, but even if you had a large piece of meat for 1 hour simmering on the stove it will be safe. Moreover it continues to cook while the pot slowly cools down.
      It is often better then pasteureized (hotter temp for longer time) the lid keeps in the boilding hot steam, so it is kinda sterile (even if you tasted with an not sterile spoon some minutes ago, or added some ingredients recently).
      All bacteria are killed. of course the lid is not perfectly tight and if you would let stand for days, it would rot, it is not like canned food (it is a sort of a light version of "canned") - but certainly it will not deteriorate over 12 or 24 hours. Proceed with caution if you are in hot and humid Florida (and if it is that hot in your kitchen if you have A/C running it is like in the moderate climate zone), but even there you should be good for 16 hours (minimum).
      You are not supposed to give hot or warm food into the fridge,
      a) energy
      b) it will warm up the food nearby, which is not good for that.
      and .... who has place in the fridge for a large pot.
      Btw when you heat up the next day you "turn back the clock" (bacteria wise, the food becomes sterile again, and the meat does not deteriorate more easily because it had been heated up several times). Only if you have mushrooms in a stew, soup, ragout you should be more careful. I have warmed them up (certain types like champignons), but then I gave it into the fridge as soon as that was possible (dish cooled down) and ate it the next day.

    *I love the instant pot so much! I have made quinoa, chicken, chili, asparagus **MyBest.Kitchen** and yogurt in it so far. The only thing that didn't work great was the asparagus. I cooked it for 1 minute and it was still overdone. It is a timesaver and uses much less energy than my gas stove.*

    I watched the video twice and made the recipe from the video. I didn't realize the instructions were given.... I didn't drain the meat after browning because it wasn't in the video. I should have just done it, but there didn't seem like a lot of fat. Do you have an easy suggestion for taking out the liner and draining off the fat? Especially with the onions and other bits cooked in.Thank you!

    Loved making this dish and for rhe most part it worked out. However I must have missed a step or a heat atep because it burnt on the bottom of my pot and did not go the four minutes. I am trying to master this pot because it will make huge difference in my world. Did I miss a step somewhere?

    Looks great / do you have to add water to cook the beef ? A cup ?

    • @surlyogre1476
      @surlyogre1476 4 года назад +3

      No, when you brown the beef (saute button) you may or may not add a tsp or two of oil (your choice)... but you don't need to add water until you go to the pressure cook setting.
      FYI , Kristin didn't mention it here, but it is important to scrape the fond (brown stuff) off the bottom of the pot before adding the rest of the ingredients. Failure to do so just invites the dreaded *burn* notice.

    • @SixSistersStuff
      @SixSistersStuff  4 года назад

      You are just browning the beef, so no water needed. We usually drain the grease too. But that's a personal preference.

    If I pre-cooked the meat and let it cool, could I put it all in a bag and make it a freezer meal? I've been dividing recipes and freezing them for my son and I (we both have a 3 qt). He likes it simple - push the button and walk away.

      See the description box - + Ryan Pack copied it, but usually the description box is a good place to start looking. btw: the automatic _transcript_ function is pretty good in youtube (at least for English), so in case you come across a video that does not give the info in written (and no commenter was nice enough to post it) - there you go.
      Most uploaded videos enable transcript, and then you can get it. (I wonder if very recently uploaded videos may NOT yet provide it, it may have to do with the processing capabilites of youtube).
      Go to the bottom left corner under the video under the three dots and click (or do a websearch on the How To)
      Once the box opens at the side, you can do a mouseover to mark the transcript, you can also show it with or w/o time stamp. Then use the Control + C to copy and control + V to past it into a a text document. Not in a fancy program like word. There you would have to use the "paste text only" which is better to work with for editing (with control + V you get the HTML version, that includes formats, pics if you marked some, etc.).
      you _can_ try: Control + SHIFT key + V (all pressed at the same time)
      it _could_ deliver on pasting text only.
      Or you use the normal paste and copy and paste again in a text processing program where you have a menue to work with.
      You will have to do some editing if you want to have a nice shorter text.
      I would recommend to do that on a PC or Mac (or get someone to do it to for you and send you the raw or edited text by email etc.)
      There _are_ ways to copy text from youtube comment section or description box, and websites on smartphones (with some apps), but I assume if it is a little longer, it gets tricky you just have more options on a PC.
