this is why this is still the best total war game. everything else after this has area of effect attacks. No more 1v1 dueling. I suppose it would be too many animations for all the different enemy types in the warhammer games? either way.... they would be much more fun to watch up close if people didn't die from enemies swinging at the air in front of them.
Even if Shogun 2 is one of my favorites, I think 1v1 dueling is unrealistic and harms the strategic aspect. There's no 1vx scenarios so there's no overwhelming by numbers. In Rome 1 and Medieval 2 other soldiers would hit the lonely enemy from every side so they would stunlock him till he receives a lethal hit.
Oh, they are still a pretty good unit I would say. Ever notice how ikko ikki can recruit samurai retainers even though they are not supposed to recruit samurai? Ronin are basically Samurai though, without masters.
They are completely normal, mate. Maybe they don't appear on low settings? I dunno. But they were in the game since the game released, no mods or DLCs changed that, only the blood effects were added.

This is what Three Kingdoms needs in my opinion.
But the units will become a huge blob like in Rome 2. Why not just go for Medieval 2's scripted match combat and unscripted group combat?

Does the up to date version of the game still have the same frequency of animations? or does by any chance the blood dlc increase animations?
