Murray 425001x8A Deck Belt Replacement

- Murray Select Lawn Tractor 42" cut. 17.5 HP Briggs & Stratton
engine. Replacing the deck drive belt. Removal of the deck
and defective belt. Reinstalling the mower and test. I had
previously done other maintenance to this deck such as
cleaning the underneath and lubrication of the spindles so
that is not really covered. The grease fittings are located on
the underneath on the spindle sides. Disconnect your
Battery, be strait and use common sense. Keep a fire
extinguisher close by at all times. If you don't
have any common sense, FORGET IT!!!

Yes this video will really help me out. I was given one these mowers. I know the drive belt is bad so I'm gonna replace both belts. You make that deck belt replacement look easy. Thanks.
You are welcome! Cheers! 🍻 -Al
Thank-you i will check with video and diagram for the belt
Helpful video. I have a 2002 Murray rider. Just changed the blades. My deck was clogged up too.
Yeah I've been doing a much better job keeping on top of that. Especially on these decks
because they are a thin stamp. They will rust quickly and you will be patching holes.
They are great tractors for homeowners if you find one in good shape. Generally easy to
work on and get parts for. I have the 38" and 42" version of these machines and they do
great for me. Thanks for your comment! ☺
Don't ever get those back ones mixed up on how they go back on
"Be strait"??? So I should be a narrow body of water when I perform this repair?
Exactly! You got it! Cheers! 🍻
Help did everything but did something wrong and im clueless. Belt engages when I turn on mower. The handle to engage does nothing can you tell me what I did wrong
Either you got the belt routed incorrectly or make
sure you got the belt within those guides around
the engine pulley. Check those two things first.
The belt may be the wrong size? It should be
loose around the engine pulley till you enguage
the deck.
Local tractor repair man told me I need authentic murry oem belt. Can you tell me where to order that? I had bought a belt correct size at hardware store. I see them on Amazon but are these authentic?
My tractor model # is without the a
425001x8
@@cindynapoli7530 Repair clinic dot com
has the Genuine OEM part #37X88MA.
Their # for the part is 1668656. It is
around $35 usd. Don't know why yours
don't have the "A" Prefix in the number.
Mine is referred to on the tractor and my
owner's manual with that prefix. Maybe it
has to do with where it was sold? Would
not think that would make a belt size
difference though. Cheers! 😃🍻
My deck belt keeps slipping off. Do you have any suggestions to resolve that issue?
With your pulleys tightened down, check for slop or play in them.
Make sure they are in good condition and have no wear that would
not hold the belt. Also make sure you have the correct belt size.
Check and grease your mower spindles. Make sure the deck is
properly lubricated and nothing is binding. Basically check for
anything loose or worn out. I hope this helps you. -Al

@@bigalsmallengines My deck belt loosened up too. When I engaged the blade, it is ok. But once I disengaged, the belt came out of the pulleys. I have to push back the belt before the next mowing. The belt is thin and some stuff chipped out. Will the new belt help? Can I use WD 40 to lubricate? Mine is 2004 model [425615x78A] and it looks almost the same as yours, but mine has no wheels on the mower blades. Regards,
@@ams3894 Sounds to me like you either
have a severe worn belt or not the right one.
Yeah I would certainly get a new belt and
make sure it's the right # for your model.
I never have the problem of it falling off the
deck like that. You should use a little 3 In
1 or 30 W oil around the pulleys and use a
grease gun to lubricate the blade spindles.
I would not use WD-40 on a mower deck.
Hope that helps you out.

Mine turn over sometimes but it want crank what is the problem
That's the answer to my problem
Ok you must not of gave it yet
You may want to check the carburetor. Check that electrically operated
fuel shut off valve on the bottom of the carburetor and make sure when
you turn the key, the plunger moves in and out. You can hear it click
when you turn the key if you listen, If that is defective, it will
not have any fuel flow. Make sure you have no clogged fuel lines or
air cleaner. Check for spark. Could be any of those issues.
You can level your deck all the way down like that to right
Not sure what you mean... there are two knobs in the back you can
adjust for the angle, you may want to experiment with getting your
best cut. Mine seems to do best with some slight angle to it. 🍻
Well mine is a murray 14.5 40"
all that stuff own your deck could have broke the belt stuff like that will slow it down
I agree, and certainly have been staying on top of
blowing off my decks at the end of the day.
Great advice William 🍻 Cheers!
I just bought a 99 Murray 12.5 HP 40' cut and all it needs is a belt .. thank you
They are simple great mowers. You will like it. -Cheers 🍻 -Al
How to replace drive belt on a Murray riding mower?
If you look at the owner's manual it will tell you
how. So far I haven't had to replace a drive belt
on either of my Murray mowers yet. I know it's
not easy. If I ever get the opportunity to change
one, I will make a video. Cheers 🍻 -Al
What is the exact deck belt size?
1/2"X89" (Part # 037X88MA)
Like I said while ago I don't know if it's firing or the gas problem when the mower turns over but it will not crank
Thank you for this video. I’m not mechanically inclined at all but I was able to replace a broken belt and save some money on a repair bill.
You are welcome! Cheers! 🍻
