If the pulleys are rusted, you can use a wire wheel on a battery impact to clean. Those chunks of metal were too much on the ones you showed, so good catch in replacing them.
I’ve only had to replace one belt and that was because it put it back on wrong and didn’t get it behind the belt holder so it rubbed the belt till I could smell it.
We have a JD 777 Zero Turn mower it is a 2006 and I believe we have replaced the deck belt once. But the mule drive belt has been replaced numerous times, a little stick or pine cone fragment will lodge in a pulley. While it is running it does fine but if you shut it off and then start up again when you engage the blades it will pop the belt. Also slow down for fire ant hills and heavy clumps of grass.
I actually noticed that myself while filming this video 🤣. I almost mentioned it but I try hard to make the videos short and to the point. If not I'll ramble on and the video will be 18 hours long. Thanks for watching 🍻
I need to do a video about the new belt they are using on the S100s. Many of them have a bump in the belt on the outside. It hits the belt guide around the engine crank pulley and makes a loud noise. Sounds like the engine is knocking. I have to search through several new belts to find one that doesn't have a bump in it. Manufacturer defect
I have a John Deere S140 2 years old. The belt snapped going up a very small incline. We replaced it. No problem with any spindle or bearing and it snapped again halfway through the next mowing (not on any incline), grass less than 6". Very clean, nothing stuck, nothing in deck at all. What could cause this? Please help!
i ran my husqvarna riding mower for 10 minutes when I heard some rough noise, turns out one of my blades was not tight for those 10 minutes. I tightened it again and about 5 minutes later the belt shredded. it was a belt only a couple of years old. Could the out of balance blade have caused issues with the belt?
I have a brand new 2023 s100 with 15 hours on it total. My belt fell off yesterday in the middle of mowing. I got it back on.no problem but when I activate the lever, it makes a loud screeching noise before engaging
The new S models are having some deck belt issues left and right. Check out this video I just did about deck belt issues ruclips.net/video/8bwvkn9LdDs/видео.html
Thanks heaps. Question: my Belt is vibrating a lot and eventually throwing itself off. Hasn’t broke the belt yet, but is damaging the belt each time it comes off. Can’t find any reason for so much vibration
I would remove the deck to be able to fully inspect it. Vibration can be caused by damaged blades, sometimes wrapped up in the blades, or bad bearings in a spindle or belt idler. When those things happen it makes it harder for the belt to turn whatever damaged pulley or spindle and that will cause the belt to jump of that pulley or spindle. Also you most likely going to need to replace the belt after you have fixed or replaced the issue. Often times once a belt has gotten twisted or jumps off often, it gets damaged and will never preform right again.
Not sure what mower you have but this video should help regardless. ruclips.net/video/WIQG4FkWmWA/видео.html While spinning the spindles and idlers, you should not hear any noise or feel any roughness in the bearings.
Will a bad belt cause heavy vibration? I replaced the blades and the belt jumped off after two passes around the yard. I put the belt back on and it still vibrating ver bad. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Hey Terry, the belt usually does not cause vibration unless it has a large chuck missing. Normally vibration on the deck is caused by a bad spindle or the blades. The blades might have something wrapped up around them or a blade might be bent or damaged causing it to be out of balance. I recommend to remove the deck and spin all the spindles and idlers. In good condition they should spin smoothly and make no noise. Here is a video that might help ruclips.net/video/3S3XHxICmcc/видео.html
Great video. Ive learned some of what you covered the hard way. Plus i learned something new about the pulleys. Thanks
Wow, good catch on that rusted surface wearing out the belts.
Neither lender nor borrower be. I don't have any more friends, but all my equipment is in top shape.

Very well explained and great advice
Hoping people will learn and appreciate what you have done to help them save money and time 😊
Thanks!
Thanks for the video!! Learned and confirmed a lot!

I Can See That Spindle Brake Has Adjustment, It Should Be More Flat On The Spindle Pulley
Thats Why The Belt Has Marks On It

This was tremendously helpful. Thank you
The one thing I have thoughts on this matter is blades need to be replaced/ and keep them Sharp
Some belts are 15/20 years old when you get them
Look them over good for signs of age and return them if tiny cracks appear

Nice video your opinion on blade engagement half throttle or full? Been told engaging at full throttle puts a lot of tension on the belt too

Hey thanks for the video. Do you have any recommendations for grease gun? My grease gun always get stuck.
Lincoln brand is what I use and like the best

@@Mechanical_Mind thank you very much for your response. I did notice that the pulleys were a little lopsided, or tilted. Is that normal?
@terrybrennan2534 That is not normal. You found your problem.
A belt should at least last 2 years under typical mowing conditions.
