Comic Drake yeah I freaking love this game It’s fun, power ups are good, enemy’s are nice, level design is amazing, and I love that you can use multiple characters. 8.5/10 maybe even higher
It's a tossup between this, Odyssey and Galaxy 2 for my personal favorite Mario. That it's even a dilemma though speaks to the underrated quality of this game, given that I don't hear anyone talking about this most of the time. In my eyes, like Alax said , the level design here is amongst the best I've ever seen in a 3D Mario title. Plus, you know, it's really fun :)
I like the level design of 3D world/land but I love it when they implement it into an open world environment like what Sunshine and Odyssey did with their bonus levels
But how is 3Dland designed less well then 3dWorld o3o I feel like the final level for 3d land felt perfectly design, while 3d world final level just felt like they through a bunch of similar objects next to each other and told you to not die from it. Especially the last part of it.
I really wouldn't be surprised if the game gets ported to the Switch. At this point Nintendo will be doing a disservice to all of their games if they don't port them from the Wii U. Other than that, the design steps in 3D World has been in every Mario game really.

It always kills me when the 3D Mario games are listed and we get "64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2... does 3D World count?" LIKE DAMN IT'S SO GOOD EVEN WITH THE WAY THE FORMULA HAS BEEN MIXED UP
It’s more of a “2D Mario game” in the formula of which the levels are structured. That’s why they’re paired with the 2D games and not 3D oftentimes, which makes sense
@Squirrel I don't think people are really trying to treat it as "not a real 3D Mario game," it's just so drastically different from 64, Odyssey etc. that you can't really compare them as being the same type of game. And in that sense they are more like the 2D games. But I can see your point. Perhaps we should call 3D Land and 3D World "Linear 3D Mario" and have the other 3D Mario games classified as "exploration-based," even though Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are quite linear
Super Mario Galaxy: We have 3 Green Stars, try to find them! Super Mario Galaxy 2: Let's take these 3 green stars and make 117 more! To extend gameplay and make it a bigger scavenger hunt! Super Mario 3D World: They are EVERYWHERE! Do this thing and get a free star! Collect them all!

A video actually giving positivity about Super Mario 3D World?! A game that people try to compare to other 3D Mario games, despite the fact that its meant to stand in its own due to being a mix between 3D and 2D Mario gameplay? And actually has some pretty unique ideas and is overall a ton of fun, especially with friends? And is overall one of the best games on the WiiU and makes me glad I actually got one? Okay, enough questions. Bottom-line is that I’m glad that I’m subbed to you, Alax.👍🏽And I also wish this game was ported to the Switch with some additional characters like Daisy or Waluigi. I’ll never understand why the spin-off that stemmed from this game and Super Copy/Paste Bros. U got a Switch port before this did. Also that part where you cracked your 3DS screen gave me PTSD of when my brother cracled the bottom screen of an old DS of mine.
Strongly disagree. I thought most of the boss fights in 3D World were pretty bad for just how basic & pathetically easy I found em to be. Not the worst in the series, I still think 64 has the worst boss fights of all the 3D Mario games, but nowhere near as good as the Galaxy game's or Odyssey's boss fights imo. The only bosses I found to be fun & unique were the Hisstocrat, Motley Bossblob & the Bowser battles/final boss. The rest just came off as forgettable, pathetically easy & honestly incredibly generic, especially the Boom Boom & Pom Pom boss fights. But that's just me.
I honestly feel like alax’s intro is a masterpiece. It’s short, so you don’t end up skipping it every video, catchy, so you don’t mind listening to and watching it, and summarizes what his channel is about
3D Land/World did for Mario what Breath of the Wild did for Zelda. While BotW brought Zelda back to its roots as an open-world adventure game, 3D Land/World brought Mario back to its roots as a linear platformer.
Honestly I considered Odyssey to be more like BOTW than 3D World. It brought back the open ended sandbox structure of Super Mario 64 & Sunshine, while breaking some conventions that previous Mario games had such as not having a live system, using coins as actual currency, getting rid of classic power ups in favor of the capture abilities etc. 3D World didn't really break any conventions like BOTW & Odyssey did. If anything, the game itself played it pretty safe.
Meta Shade That’s not an accurate comparison. Mario started linear while Zelda started open. The two switched sides when they became 3D. BotW and 3D Land/World brought the 3D games of each series back to the style of the 2D games where they started.
Chill Player 123 Ocarina of Time was not open-world. The Zelda series stopped being open-world when it became 3D. BotW brought the series back to its roots as an open-world game. Similarly, Mario stopped being linear when it became 3D (and changed many aspects of the game such as the health system). 3D Land/World returned 3D Mario to the style of gameplay found in the original 2D games.
Galaxy's and 3D World's music are amazing in their own unique ways. It's difficult to compare them. Galaxy's is grandious, orchestral and epic. 3D World's is big band, energetic, and funny. They are the best in their own style.

Sup Relax! This is a great video, and there are a lot of great points. However, I wouldn't say that this is necessarily 3D Mario at it's best. I would just place it in a different category from other 3D Mario games. There are two sub-genres of the 3D Mario game: The linear, and the sandbox. I don't believe that any one of these two designs are better than the other per-say, just different. Super Mario 3D world does a fantastic job at what it tries to do: be a linear Mario game that builds upon certain concepts at a level to level basis, with some gimmicks making more than one appearance. I do however believe that comparing the level designs Super Mario 3D World with the likes of 64 and Sunshine a bit of a mistake. These are different games which attempt to formulate different designs. The open world 3D Mario games are just like you said; flexible. Where in 3D Land the goal is to learn new concepts and grow with said concepts over the course of the level for one final challenge at the end, games like Galaxy are about the exploration or different areas and mastery of base mechanics and abilities throughout the entire experience. I love Super Mario 3D World. I really do. However, comparing it to other 3D Mario games is sorta like you said in the video: comparing a Dump Truck to a Lamborghini. It just doesn't work. As a matter of fact, I believe that it was this comparison that spanned sub-generes that game Super Mario 3D World the illusion of being underwhelming in the first place. Just as in the video, when you were waving that Super Mario Galaxy 3 flag while watching the Nintendo Direct, that's exactly what people were expecting. As soon as people saw that their next big 3D Mario would be a more linear game akin to 2D Mario, they immediately decided that it couldn't compare with the likes of Sunshine, 64, and Galaxy, while in reality, 3D World is an extremely underrated game. Super Mario Odyssey does a wonderful job of appealing to fans both sub-generas of 3D Mario not by making an unholy amalgam of both, but by separating the two different styles of level designs into different sections. Sunshine dabbles in that same concept when it comes to it's special stages. Come to think of it, Galaxy suffered most because it tries to combine the open-worldness of Sunshine and the linearity of 3d World into one lump sum. Oops, went off on a tangent a bit there. The point is, all the 3D Mario games are genius in their own right. However, some are designed differently than others, and I believe that, while no game is by any means perfect, each one does a wonderful job of pulling off what it attempts to do. Of course, that's just an opinion. An internet opinion! Thanks for reading.
I personally feel like Sunshine was the most flawed. As the missions, though they each have their own creative twists in their design, they constantly switch the placement of the coins and blue coins. Making 100% the game pretty tedious. Especially with blue coins. Not to only mention that the game doesnt really seem to test mario on his platforming capabilities. Now sure their are those platforming segments, but those make up a mere fraction of the game. As the rest of the game is too focused on exploration. Thus kind of suffering as a result. But that's just my opinion.
3D World is more about finding little secrets on your main path, like Mario 1-3 and World. Odyssey is more about collecting all the moons scattered about an explorative level, like Mario 64 and Sunshine. Both games have unique themes and awesome design, and no matter which is better, I’ll always love them and I’m glad they’re part of my childhood.
Imo: 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2. Super Mario Odyssey 3. Super Mario Galaxy 2 4. Super Mario 64 5. Super Mario 3D World 6. Super Mario Sunshine 7. Super Mario 3D Land
Huh. I always preferred Galaxy 2 over Galaxy one. The second seemed like a near perfect sequel in a lot of ways, save for the green stars feeling a tad bit tedious but still fun to collect.
@Giovanni Dobber I clearly pointed out that it's my opinion and if you don't agree with it, you still have no right to harrass me with your political correctness bs!!
I really want this ported to switch. I never owned a Wii U but the backlash over 3D world may mean this will never happen. There’s no way this game is better than odyssey for me anyway. I love the movement system in that game and this one seems limited in comparison
Squantle It’s actually more fluid than it appears. You can still do a lot of the crazy tricks and skills from the regular 3D Mario games so you could fly through levels if you knew what you were doing. It was a great game though and I don’t get why it gets so much hate. The power-ups were especially good too.
CCT93 can you do cappy roll jumps into a vector to a homing return throw return, rainbow spin, cap throw, dive jump, 2nd cap throw and a final dive in 3D World all without touching the ground? That kind of satisfaction can’t be replicated unfortunately...
@@Squantle It wouldn't work in a linear based game as 3d world. The gameplay and almost everything else boosts that up high. If Breath of the Wild wasn't ported to the Switch would you say, oh it looks cool but I don't like the stamina bar so no.
What criticism? They received near universal critical praise for being a breath of fresh air. 3D Land has a 90 with only 1 non-positive review on MetaCritic. 3D World has an even higher score at 93.
I would say it’s more than a Super Mario 3D world captain toad edition. They came up with a lot of concepts and ideas, and in comparison the 3D world levels are simple
This is my new favorite video of yours man. Good God, you've mastered the art of blending interesting discussion and entertaining comedy into one complete package. Shit's inspiring as hell dude lol
I feel like the game is definitely well designed, I just don't care for the cat suit, and I think it lacks a certain charm that the 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, and Odyssey have. But hey maybe that's just me
That's basically how I feel with 3D World. It's a fun & well designed game, but it lacks soul & atmosphere that other console 3D Mario games have. There is no atmosphere in Mario 3D World.

And it used the 4 step thing with linar stuff, to make it a nonlinear thing. Nice.

@@toasturhztoastbunz896 I can see that, although all of the 3D Marios are great in their own right.
"It's a tragedy that this hasn't been ported."
Yeah, ok.
ALAX GANG RISE
3D World is more about finding little secrets on your main path, like Mario 1-3 and World.
Odyssey is more about collecting all the moons scattered about an explorative level, like Mario 64 and Sunshine.
Both games have unique themes and awesome design, and no matter which is better, I’ll always love them and I’m glad they’re part of my childhood.
R.I.P. Alax’s 3DS 2018
Alax: "It's a tragedy that this game was not ported!"
Nintendo on September 3, 2020: (smiling though blinds)
Imo:
1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Super Mario Odyssey
3. Super Mario Galaxy 2
4. Super Mario 64
5. Super Mario 3D World
6. Super Mario Sunshine
7. Super Mario 3D Land
Huh. I always preferred Galaxy 2 over Galaxy one. The second seemed like a near perfect sequel in a lot of ways, save for the green stars feeling a tad bit tedious but still fun to collect.
@@JG_Wentworth the Story and atmosphere in 1 was way better...that's why I preferred it!
@Giovanni Dobber And what are YOU trying to gain with these nonsense comments?
No
@Giovanni Dobber I clearly pointed out that it's my opinion and if you don't agree with it, you still have no right to harrass me with your political correctness bs!!
0:36 2020: Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
@@Squantle well no, but you can do this in 1 of the levels. ruclips.net/video/s9pgJFtzMGs/видео.html thats pretty fun.
@@MrMariosonicman And the Cat Dive momentum glitch makes the a lot of levels, especially the savanna levels, ridiculous.
@@Squantle It wouldn't work in a linear based game as 3d world. The gameplay and almost everything else boosts that up high.
If Breath of the Wild wasn't ported to the Switch would you say, oh it looks cool but I don't like the stamina bar so no.
I literally watched that into like 10 times ITS SO GOOD
It's not dead. I literally bought it at this very date: 16th March 2019. Yes, 2019. Multiple years after people said it's dead.
Thatmooncat and Imp Max I still play it to this day.
@@octoisgay Me too
And then we get a port of it on the Switch. 3D World is dead my buttocks
"was not ported" ah, im so happy those words were not true.
8:22 Sounds like a Rick and Morty character...
3:28 wait I just realized Splatoon is basically Mario Sunshine with extra woomy's
3D Land was one of the best early 3DS games, and this game expanded on it. Dunno why either get as much criticism as they do.
I think people were getting sick of the "NEW" and this seemed just "NEW" but in 3d
What criticism? They received near universal critical praise for being a breath of fresh air.
3D Land has a 90 with only 1 non-positive review on MetaCritic. 3D World has an even higher score at 93.
I really love the big band music of this game. Chainlink Charge's music is actually my ringtone. So good. Odyssey, act like you know.
Didn’t Captain Toad Treasure Tracker have double cherries?
There are.
Alax has the best editing
The most fun I had with a 3D cartoon shooter since Tamarin
0:37 Glad I can say this statement is now wrong.
It’s funny that he mentioned it not being ported and everyone hated it, and now it has been and everyone loves it

That “If I criticize it you can still like it too” part gave me the same vibes as Preparing the Flying Patty
Basically I love it

@@Rugghyl thank you very much kind soul
IT NOW EXISTS
A 3D WORLD SWITCH PORT!
I feel like the game is definitely well designed, I just don't care for the cat suit, and I think it lacks a certain charm that the 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, and Odyssey have. But hey maybe that's just me
it's because it's a 2.5D game and sucks
That's basically how I feel with 3D World. It's a fun & well designed game, but it lacks soul & atmosphere that other console 3D Mario games have. There is no atmosphere in Mario 3D World.
You anti-furry frick
This game was supposed to be included with my Wii U, but it was absent from the box.
