The Gravity ring was the only engaging part of that game and it allowed for the most creative level design I have seen in a racing game. The issue with the drift is it is very extreme, unforgiving, and the least consistent mechanic of riders. It uses up a crap ton of air, is the only way for you to meaningfully turn (the track either does a very wide turn or a 90 degree turn that requires the drift,) and if you mess up the input even a little bit you will turn the wrong way and then dash into a wall. I love Riders to an extreme degree and have thousands of hours into it. The game feels as natural as breathing to me, except every now and again the drift will just chuck me into a wall because Jet looked a little to the left before I hit the R button. Though I should clarify I just want the turning on the gravity ring, not the long corridor boost: The beauty of the Gravity Ring is its flexibility and massive pace changer. You can make maps with literal 180 degree on the dot turns with the Gravity ring, or 60 degree turns, and it can be used for a little bit of recovery if you smack into a wall. On ramps you can make shortcuts where people need to use the gravity ring (like the fan vent on Security Corridor.) It is very consistent in a game that felt horrendeous to control. The music changing when you used it supplied a massive rush. And the issue of the Gravity meter, just get rid of it, maybe tie it to air if you rebalance the air meter but I feel turning should not be tied to fuel any more than basic driving. And tricks are messed up in part due to the ring (being able to gravity turn mid-jump is probably why they automated tricks/jumps.) But they could find a work around.

My only game in the Riders series was Zero Gravity, and when I was a child I couldn’t beat the first stage (feel free to laugh at me). It took me forever to beat, but then there was the second stage. Didn’t take as long, but then I just breezed through the rest of the levels. I got good almost overnight. I was using the Wii Remote control scheme, and I used that playstyle to beat all the missions with the Extreme rating on my Wii U last year, something I couldn’t do as a child (except for the actual worst stage in the game, that I perfected). I cheesed one of the missions by activating Zero-G after a ramp and flew back towards where the ramp was just so I could jump the ramp again.
Velocity is the measure of a straight line from point A to point B. If a race car circled four laps around a standard racing track and stopped at the exact spot it started, its average velocity would still be zero because point A and point B are, in this case, the same location. It was released only for PS2 and Wii. Can I see I was not expecting this, but SOOOOO HAPPY you talked about Sonic Riders?! I had SO MANY days of my childhood playing this game with my friends and brother, even more than Mario Kart Double Dash. With all the mechanics of Speed, Power, and Fly making courses feel different with how you tackle it. Different Gear not only having different stats, but some making characters use different styles even tho they aren't in the same class (for example, by using the Magic Broom Gear you can Fly, even tho you're Speed or Power) with the cost of reduced stats compared to focusing on your Class. Even a lot of the Missions were unique and made stages into obstacle courses that were fun to go through and go above and beyond the requirements......even though missions with limited air and cars to hit were VEEERRRY difficult. I HIGHLY recommend people to try this game if you like Sonic or Racing games to play with friends.
Okay, thank God! I thought maybe I was in the tiny side of the fan base that loved zero gravity but seeing the comments on here, a lot of ppl agree that zero gravity wasn't bad. Glad that everyone agrees that Free riders was trash and it's main theme was awesome lol
I never played zero gravity but I remember playing free riders and I hated the gameplay but I loved the music and the hoverboard designs Also there bikes broke the game
The riders series oozes with the adventure-era sonic style, both in story and characterization and everything else, i would totally love having a proper sequel! Pref riders to the car games. At least team sonic racing is getting a story mode, which the previous games did not.
Zero Gravity was just as good, once you get used to the motion controls. I used to have a few world records on the Wii version. Looking for alternate paths, optimizing your route and testing where are the most optimized places to dash was fun as hell.
ZG had some nice designs but having to stop on a dime just to make a hard turn with the gravity mechanic brought the pace of the game to a halt and just killed the momentum.
Someone should definitely notify him on Sonic Riders Tournament edition. It makes the game so much better and there is a pretty big community behind it
Sonic riders for me was a amazing game as a kid i spent countless hours playing the game many summer nights up late just getting “better “ at the game admiring the cutscenes and the music i truly wish they would bring this game back with awesome graphics and good story and more characters to play while keeping the core gameplay formula unchanged also multiplayer lol
Other things i have noticed from my 100+ hours of gameplay (yes this amount of time was me when i was younger). 1) ramps isn't just about charging a jump. If you leave a turbulence right before one and jump, you get the same height as a fully charged one 2) to leave a turbulence, tap ltr and rtr together at the same time 3) there is a hidden tornado move. Press ltr and rtr at the same time to make one. You lose all of your speed and the same amount of fuel as a boost would cause but it makes opponents behind you stunned for a few seconds if the hit the mini tornado 4) if you are lucky when you boost right before a "spin to speed up and regain air" section, you go extremely fast. Faster than normal in those sections. In egg factory, the camera angle changes and you go a lot faster 5) taking shortcuts isn't always the better decision and sometimes it is best to save your air instead. On metal highway if you are max level as a speed type, taking the lower section is better because saving the fuel until later on is a lot more beneficial and faster than wasting it all early on (you regain the fuel from grinding early on in the lap)
The fact that this game rewards skill and give you different shortcuts based on the type of character you played was great! And then Zero Gravity came out and took all of that required skill away...or at least the removed the whole point of having character types because everyone was able to do everything in that game
Sonic Riders is my favorite GameCube Sonic game, and I'm so happy you made a video covering how this game is so underrated! This was the first ever game that I had truly 100% completed
This game apparently has a competitive scene with a a fan version still being patched and updated to this day.

Zero g gang
I love zero Gravity but haven't played a single sonic game except unleashed also extremely unpopular opinion i like the night stages of unleashed
I never played zero gravity but I remember playing free riders and I hated the gameplay but I loved the music and the hoverboard designs
Also there bikes broke the game
@@chromaaf8863 really? Huh neat
Zero gravity was probably the best sequel that could have happened to any Sonic Game... The whole turning mechanics was so fun with stopping gravity
sonic racin-ILL MAKE U EAT THOSE WORDS
I like zero gravity better than both tbh. Only thing missing is online
Wait I don't remember zero gravity being bad? Wish you could visit that at some point
3:09
I’m both proud of you for not mentioning Persona 5, and severely disappointed in you for not mentioning Persona 5.
Zero Gravity wasn't better than the first game but it was still alright.....free rider yeah they killed the series with that game.
That intro cutscene sparked so many memories holy hell
Who loves sonic riders and wishes it to come back
MEMEMEME!!!
Meee!
The riders series oozes with the adventure-era sonic style, both in story and characterization and everything else, i would totally love having a proper sequel! Pref riders to the car games. At least team sonic racing is getting a story mode, which the previous games did not.
i would love to see a remake of sonic riders, it was my favorite racing game
sonic zero gravity is not that bad change my mind
it isnt, but its a straight downgrade from the first in almost every way.
ChaddyFantome hey, at least it had more tracks
edit: so this was a lie
second edit: so this wasn't a lie, but it was only like two more tracks
The best of all Sonic Riders game. Period.
Is it just me or gravity was slower?
I enjoyed it but the gravity boost thing was horrid.
@@SokaBlaze Gravity boost opens up exploration.
Zero Gravity was just as good, once you get used to the motion controls. I used to have a few world records on the Wii version. Looking for alternate paths, optimizing your route and testing where are the most optimized places to dash was fun as hell.
Okay, Zero Gravity is great. I don't care what you say. It's fun.
Vegetable might just be a jab at motion controls
@@likky1 Then play it on the PS2
@@veggie928 i did, just saying it just might be a dumb jab at motion controls
Zero Gravity and Zero Speed
It's the slowest racing game I ever played.
The final level's auto boost was dumb
"Okay, but why you talking like THAT?"
Because he's Jason Griffith, dude. That's the only way he knows how to talk.
Such a bad voice actor for Sonic. I just cringe whenever I hear his voice in the newer sonic games *COUGH* FORCES *COUGH*
He didn't deserve to voice Miyamoto Usagi.
Yeah Sonic's voice with Jason sounds weird
@@CaptainCoolzCT- i think you're confusing Jason with Roger
And don't worry, after this game he started to improve, i'd even say he is the best sonic VA
you better talk about sonic riders zero gravity
The memories are coming back
IIIIIM FALLLIN FREEE IN THE WIIIND
Tbh I liked zero grav more than the original, my opinion I guess
4:23 Gotta love how Storm just flips xDD
Aw man, that intro brings me back to a simpler time....
Man the OST is GODLY
Thank you so much for this video. This game was legit my introduction to sonic and how he became one of my favorite game characters.
Jet is lowkey that one sassy kid that always ended up crying whenever you and your buddies hanged out and the rest of the group got in trouble
I actually LOVED sonic riders. Wish they could do another.
Not for the story but I enjoyed playing multiplayer.
It's sad that I just realized Monika and Floating Ganondorf Amiibo were killed off. R.I.P
I love these video's about completely random games. Not because they are popular, but because Alax just wanted to talk about them.
7.8/10 _Not enough Sonic R_
5/10 too much Sonic R
The animators of sonic riderz intro are the same ones that animated attack on titan
"NiGHTS from who played that game"
HEY.....THAT HURTS BUT ALSO FAIR
the thing is nights is more populars than ulala and aiai yet he disses nights as if they're the unknown one
Maybe I just say that because I see nights more than the majority of sega characters nowadays
10:28 Pirahna Plant was laughing at him in the background.
Love the art style for the 2-D animations in Sonic Riders 1
3 animation styles? That honestly can be really good in a game
PERSONA 5
zero gravity was great, alax 🥴🥴🥴
This game is so underrated. It's honestly one of my favorite racing games ever.
By the way... Super sonic is a playable character in this game.
10:10 So much Nostalgia 😫 I remember only loving that track just because of the music 🔥🔥
Bruh I remember playing Sonic riders zero gravity for the Wii years ago
I can still feel the callouses in the palm of my hands when I would do the spinny sections
Wait was zero gravity bad? I was a dumb kid when I played it so maybe I had shit taste but, Zero Gravity was super fun for me.
I remember riders 1 air gimmick was awful but the gravity gimmick in 2 was better and more fun
I literally got back to playing zero gravity 2 days ago after like 7 years, and I still enjoyed it, idk what alax is trying to say here
ZG had some nice designs but having to stop on a dime just to make a hard turn with the gravity mechanic brought the pace of the game to a halt and just killed the momentum.
I used to play this all the time but never had a memory card for the game cube so i always had to restart. Good memories
Hey Zero Gravity is good it's free riders that ruined everything.
Zero Gravity took out all the depth from the game. Its just kinda boring.
The intro cutscene was actually animated by the same people who animated attack on titan.

*Sonic Heroes! Sonic Heroes!*
@Not A Pikachu Oh sorry.
The bandages around your bloody hands from spinning the control stick is just too relatable.
Am I the only one that likes Zero Gravity still?
Someone should definitely notify him on Sonic Riders Tournament edition. It makes the game so much better and there is a pretty big community behind it
but zero gravity isn't bad
Something tells me Alex never played ZG
I remember playing this on my PS2, and it was one of my favorite games on that console!
Honestly, Zero Gravity wasn't that bad.
I'm glad you enjoy my favorite racing game I still pick up every once in a while to play.
Yeah another sonic game review the legend himself
Sonic riders for me was a amazing game as a kid i spent countless hours playing the game many summer nights up late just getting “better “ at the game admiring the cutscenes and the music i truly wish they would bring this game back with awesome graphics and good story and more characters to play while keeping the core gameplay formula unchanged also multiplayer lol
*HATSUNE MIKU IS THAT YOU*
*HAVE YOU COME TO PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY*
My friend has this and we played it as a kid, thank you for bringing this memory back
What if Beat (from Jet Set Radio) was in Sonic Riders that would be cool.
The best skater around
Alax keeps making videos about Game Cube and Wii games I remember growing up, and I love it
Can’t wait for a sonic riders zero gravity review
Other things i have noticed from my 100+ hours of gameplay (yes this amount of time was me when i was younger).
1) ramps isn't just about charging a jump. If you leave a turbulence right before one and jump, you get the same height as a fully charged one
2) to leave a turbulence, tap ltr and rtr together at the same time
3) there is a hidden tornado move. Press ltr and rtr at the same time to make one. You lose all of your speed and the same amount of fuel as a boost would cause but it makes opponents behind you stunned for a few seconds if the hit the mini tornado
4) if you are lucky when you boost right before a "spin to speed up and regain air" section, you go extremely fast. Faster than normal in those sections. In egg factory, the camera angle changes and you go a lot faster
5) taking shortcuts isn't always the better decision and sometimes it is best to save your air instead. On metal highway if you are max level as a speed type, taking the lower section is better because saving the fuel until later on is a lot more beneficial and faster than wasting it all early on (you regain the fuel from grinding early on in the lap)
idk i enjoyed zero g, it was tighter and the minigames were good i had a bunch of time in the soccer one
The fact that this game rewards skill and give you different shortcuts based on the type of character you played was great!
And then Zero Gravity came out and took all of that required skill away...or at least the removed the whole point of having character types because everyone was able to do everything in that game
Zero Gravity fixes almost all of your ending complaints though, not sure I understand why you think it's bad.
Sonic Riders is my favorite GameCube Sonic game, and I'm so happy you made a video covering how this game is so underrated! This was the first ever game that I had truly 100% completed
Why are people saying Zero Gravity was bad? I loved it just as much as Riders 1.
this video also serves as the best tutorial of this game out there

*_Does it brighten up your day?_*

Theres also an arena mode. It's basically a big circle with powerups in it and you have to survive as long as possible. One of them has a big birb
